“Any time law enforcement is involved, it's the business of the public, because taxpayers pay for it. Police reports are made public so taxpayers can see if the law is correctly applied.”

senorlou replied on Nov 28, 2009 at 17:35:46

“Well, let's be honest. Haven't you ever called the cops for everything? Would you have wanted it all over the news? Maybe this will create discussion about domestic violence, that's the only good this can do. Aside from that, it really is their business, not ours. I'm into too, obviously, but this happens all over every day - and it doesn't usually mean the couple have to have their dirty laundry plastered all over the news.”

Senator Nader? Former Presidential Candidate Considers Connecticut Run In 2010

Commented Nov 28, 2009 at 12:47:52 in Politics

“I wonder if Connecticut voters will succumb, as many voters did in 2000, to the empty promises of formerly great Ralph Nader. If they do, they will be stuck with two self-centered mavericks, Lieberman and Nader. Don't they want at least one Senator who thinks more of the people he represents than himself? That person may not be Dodd, but I would hope a draft-Lamont movement picks up more momentum than a draft-Nader effort.”

Like who, Countrywide Dodd? Goldman Sachs Obama?

Lamont should have beaten Lieberman in a landslide I wonder why he didn't

And speaking of the people apparently you've never heard Nader speak

“Good for Peter Jackson! Who knew that under that beard, glasses and extra weight was a good-looking man (as well as who we already knew was an extremely talented one)? I loved all three "Lord of the Rings" movies and look forward to his "The Lovely Bones" movie. If he would shave the beard and have his hair washed and trimmed, he might prove to be a knockout.”

“I think I get why this non-newsworthy item was posted: to show the hypocrisy of this "Family Values" candidate, who did not spend Thanksgiving, a family holiday if ever there was one, with her nuclear family. Instead, she spent it with extended family so she could resume her book tour and squeeze in a footrace. Money and fitness above family. Great values.”

“Two wars, during which time W cut taxes, yet no war bonds and no sacrifices were asked of the American people. How could that be done? Try unbelievable levels of borrowing from China, India and other countries. And then there was W's attempt to extend home ownership. We know how well that went.
There was a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in 1993, but the Clinton administration caught the terrorists and prosecuted them, which resulted in convictions. Now the Obama administration is trying to prosecute the mastermind of 9/11 and the followers of Bush are saying they should not be tried in a court of law. How does this make sense in our democracy?”

sandiegoconservative replied on Nov 27, 2009 at 00:25:36

“Because, you sack, if you knew a single thing about the legal system in this country, you would learn that an enemy combatant does not have the same rights as a citizen being prosecuted in a US Court of law. The rights of the accused are discussed the first week of a criminal law class in law school.

I don't get why libs cannot wrap their heads around this.”

“You are projecting. "Left wingers," as you call liberals and progressives, think Palin is shallow (apparently she can't answer the simple question "What do you read?" and did not write her book) and insignificant (she counts being part-time mayor of a 7,000-person village as "executive experience") and quit the only significant job she had after 2-1/2 years. Sarah and her sheep followers keep her name in the news, but in recent interviews of her book buyers, they could not name even one policy of hers.
Palin as president will never happen. Her negative poll ratings are so bad; she sounds nonsensical every time she opens her mouth; she is a quitter; and she would be demolished in any debate with Obama.”

Anyway, the CAL fans booed Woods, a Stanford alum, at Stanford, not the Stanford fans. The headline is factual but a little misleading.”

“FDR created new jobs with the CCC, WPA and other like agencies. Men who could not otherwise find work joined up, built roads, bridges and parks, which added to the US infrastructure and had some extra money to send home. Obama could do this and add building rail lines to the list, as the railroads took up some of the lines years ago. We need rail travel again. Of course conservatives would have a collective stroke, but another New Deal would get the country back to work.”

“A woman standing in line in Michigan for Palin's book was quoted in the NYTimes as saying she wanted to make Obama "a half-term president." Well, what American loyal to the democratic electoral process says something like that? Liberals who were aghast at the two (possibly stolen?) elections of George W. Bush at least respected the results and did not talk about ending his terms prematurely. There was anger at Bush's lying us into a war that broke our economy, but we did not threaten violence or make teddy bears with vengeful Biblical verses on them about Bush. These neoconfederates who support Palin's bubble-headed persona and ghostwritten book are horribly un-American!”

“Plus, guests on a Sarah Palin Show may find it difficult to answer questions which are more like a word salad than salient questions. But it might be a good idea for her to do a talk show, where she might unveil her lack of class and dignity and true barracuda nature.
As for the others mentioned, only Katie Couric has the news background, the smarts, the feminine sensibility and the ABILITY to pin serious guests down, while having fun with the fluffy topics, as Oprah has. But Couric is beyond that, anchoring the CBS Evening News. So I would tend to go with Ellen. Despite her comic approach, she is actually quite smart, seems to study the backgrounds of her guests and is as approachable as Oprah. But hers is a more showbiz-oriented show, while Oprah could interview entertainers yet do a complete show on one medical, political or other serious topic.”

“Indeed, the teabaggers are blaming Obama for a financial mess that their guys, Bush-Cheney, created, Where were their voices from 2001 to 2008? Nowhere. The Republicans were in lockstep and the GOP Congress abdicated their duty to provide a check and balance on the out-of-control unitary executives.”

StuartGalley replied on Nov 20, 2009 at 13:35:45

“Honestly. Where do you people live? This was all caused by the housing crisis which started with Carter and continued til 2007. This is not a repub/dem thing. This is a government thing. Just like SS and medicare. Owning a house became a right, not a privledge. Housing prices got over-inflated because people kept buying and buying and buying when they couldn't afford. Our leader, both repub and dem did nothing about it. They were not going to put their neck on the line "taking away" something. It is the same problem with SS and Medicare. At least give the Bush administration credit for being the first administration since Carter to realize in 2002 or 2003 that this thing had the potential to blow up. Good ole Barney Fife wanted nothing to do with it. If anything, look a little closer to your own party.”

I thought Obama did extremely well. Maybe if more media had treated Bush the same, especially in regard to his wars, this country would not be in its current financial straits.”

"Going Rogue": The 18 Biggest Falsehoods In Palin's Book

“In March 2008, a little-known female governor from Alaska was asked about Hillary Clinton's complaint that she encountered sexist criticism of her campaign. The governor, Sarah Palin, said Clinton needed to stop complaining and work harder. Well, Palin has complained for hundreds of pages in her book, blaming everyone but herself for the dismal 2008 election results. And instead of working harder, Palin has QUIT being governor, abandoning the citizens of Alaska she swore to serve. Now she comes out with this self-serving book apparently filled with lies about everything from her daughter's pregnancy timeline to the money she says she had to pay to be "vetted" when it was the legal costs of ethical problems like Troopergate. Thankfully, if this self-described "rogue" (definition: deceitful person) ever runs again for public office, her opponents will have hundreds of pages on the record with which to tear her campaign to shreds.”
