He threatened their establishment, and that was why the Romans killed him. “I see I started a theological debate ... again... :)
I'm not the best authority on this by any means, but I'm pretty positive Christ never said anything about marriage having to be between a man and a woman...
In any case, I see many, *many* people here missing the point I was trying to make. If that's what you believe -- that marriage has to be between a man and a woman because it's in the Bible, so be it, that's your belief. But, using the Bible as a guide to what should be *law* seems silly because face it, there's a lot of silly stuff in the bible. I mean, the Bible says its a sin to shave and eat shellfish..!
But, how does it affect you, how does it *personally*, *tangibly* *directly* affect you, your marriage, your ability to be happy and to have a happy marriage if two gay people -- two gay strangers -- want to be married, too -- if that's what makes *them* happy.
I simply do not understand why this is such an issue, I guess.”

“I asked this on another thread today and I got some good responses, but I'm still waiting for the one that really, *really* explains this to me.
For the life of me, I have never been able to understand why Republicans -- maybe I should say Fundamentalists -- get so worked up about gay marriage. Why do they care so much if two gays want to get married. How does it actually, tangibly affect them and their happiness and their ability to live their lives?
I don't get it. I understand why Fundamentalists get so worked up about abortion (even if I don't agree with them, I understand why they get so passionate about it, many of them genuinely believe it is mur.der), but gay marriage? I don't get why they are so opposed to it if it makes two strangers happy.”

“I think it sometimes helps if you consider the source.
So-called Christians who take it upon themselves to judge others - even though their Bible tells them not to - have a basic personality disorder that causes them to think in this self-righteous way.
As an example of a more extreme case, one of those fundamentalist republicans was a guy named Dennis Rader - deacon of his Lutheran church in Topeka, KS and leader of the youth program there for years - a real stand-up Christian conservative... right up until they found out he was the infamous BTK killer.
Here is a guy who took it upon himself to judge others, and thus felt justified in binding, torturing and killing people because of his personal beliefs. He felt that his Lord had made a special exception in his case.
There are hundreds of other examples of people who take their basic Christian beliefs and twist them to the point of fanaticism. Of course, these people are always given media attention before anyone else with a more reasonable point of view.”

“Fundamentalists are taught from Day One that homosexuality is an abomination and a man with a man, or a woman with a woman, is a sin.
That's probably all they can tell you, because they themselves don't understand their belief beyond what they've been taught and told to believe.
I've gotten into this discussion with some of my fundamentalist religious friends, and though they're adamant in their opposition to gay anything, their argument is so weak and flawed and so rooted in scriptural fantasyland that it makes debating with them pointless.
During the Puritanistic era, sin was virtually anything that made one happy or that made one feel good about him or herself. Today's fundamentalists are not much different from yesteryear's Puritans.”

Having said that, as far as I am concerned you can call it all civil unions, including heterosexuals as well. I see no need to discriminate in either case.
Many see "marriage" as a Biblical issue. If so, then don't call it marriage.”

Stirring up hatred is the best way to avoid responsibility and stir up a dust storm so that you can get away with running off w all the money and power.
And anyone who falls for the divide and conquer game (being taught to hate others who have a lot in common w you) is a FO OL.”
