Bloomberg On Health Care: You Have To Question The Govt. We Have
Commented Dec 27, 2009 at 18:33:15 in Politics
“So, you couldn't think of any actual arguments to rebut his position, I take it. I'm not saying I support him, or the health care bills currently on the table. Justt saying that ad hominem arguments are a clear indication that, though one is lacking substance, one is still prepared to offer an opinion. For what little it is worth.”

Robert Byrd's Death Seemingly Wished For By Tom Coburn
Commented Dec 21, 2009 at 16:32:22 in Politics
“What he "meant" is quite open for debate. To assume that he meant harm to Senator Byrd is a huge stretch, and the author's interpretation is not supported by what Coburn said. I'm tired of people on my side of the aisle playing as fast and loose with the facts as those on the other side.”

White House Rebuke: Angry Dems Shut Down Vote
Commented Nov 20, 2009 at 19:33:28 in Business
“This whole year has been a lesson in one thing for the electorate: the work just begins when you win an election. The opposition does not go away, they become more strident. And if you sit back and chill after winning the election, you will come to the end of the year or term, saying, "What happened? I thought we won!?"
Americans like to outsource, or at least minimize, our political responsibilities. If we haven't at least been on the horn to our elected representatives since January, the fault is not theirs but ours. I'm so heartened by this action of the CBC. We need to see more of this kind of behavior.”

“Even though I agree with the principle that we need to reduce the sugar kids eat, I have to agree with you. I think. I'm torn, too. But I equate sugar (and its sibling, corn starch) with tobacco: it is an addictive substance, and kids are most susceptible, as tobacco companies know. I'd rather see this addressed by seeing the government withdraw subsidies from foods that are "bad for you", but in the meantime, this seems like a reasonable stopgap. Still, the principle of letting people choose their health or their poison is a good one. Wouldn't it be nice if we stopped funding both sides of all wars? If we stopped subsidizing crap food, and shifted those funds to subsidizing pre-and post-natal care and exercise programs for everyone, maybe our health care costs would go down.”

“I live in Virginia and McDonnell is leading Deeds in the polls. It's a big deal to Creigh Deeds who is running on the Democrat ticket, I can bet.
You got this man, McDonnell, who has just had his Master thesis show up from20 some years ago, which talks about the problem with homosexuals in our lives, about women needing to stay home and raise children and all the other far right, conservative blather. Now, he's caught on tape using this language on a radio show.
Don't get me wrong, I've said it more times than I'm proud of, 'specially when I miss a putt, but I'm not running for Governor, either, on a very conservative platform.”

“"Murder is the unlawful killing of a person." That is the legal definition and the one offered by some dictionaries. I prefer the moral definition: "Murder is the unjust, immoral killing of a person."
After all, Hitler's killing of the Jews and others was legal. Idi Amin's killing of his people was legal. Pol Pot's killing of his people, Stalin's killing of his people, Saddam's killing of his people . . . it was all legal.
I don't consider this just a matter of semantics. It's an important distinction. What is legal is not synonymous with what is right. What is illegal is not synonymous with what is wrong.”

“Oh, please. There was no reason to suspect her of anything but overzealousness, or the Secret Service would have detained her from the start. Now anyone with an envelope is a threat?
I could not disagree with her beliefs more, but unless there is more to this story than is reported here, she had every right to stand her ground and try to get the president's attention, just the same as any citizen or reporter. Her desire to give it to the Secret Service, but not to a staffer, is irrational - but lots of people get ditzy around, or in anticipation of being around, the president. My only disagreement with dyldrix is in saying shame on Obama; while the buck stops with him, he can't be held responsible, IMHO, for every over-reaction of his people. This was an over-reaction, but not a huge one. If they have to err on one side, I prefer that they err on the side of protecting the president.”
