Obama Offers Gays a Consolation Prize of Extended Benefits

“Obama is definitely not a liberal. However he will appeal as much as he can 6 months before 2012 elections.”

“Obama's as much of a poitical hack as the rest of them. He may thing we have nowhere to go come the next presidential election day but he's wrong. We can go out to lunch, to a film, stay at work and just stay home. I will. No difference to me whether it's the worst republican running. Palin, Romney, Obama etc. They would all deny us marriage rights and therefore the ultimate seat at the table.”

Egyptians' Excitement for Obama's Speech Conceals Mistrust
Commented Jun 02, 2009 at 19:56:34 in World
“Annelle, I think it is great moment for the Egyptians in general to be the hosts for President Obama. On the other hand I think Egyptian Muslims who by far are very tolerant will also shun those amongst them who are intolerant of the native Coptic community. The recent episode where the pigstock was destroyed under the guise of the swine flu epidemic did not reflect well on this otherwise great nation.”
hp blogger Annelle Sheline replied on Jun 05, 2009 at 07:20:06
“Pip1860,
You're right. I think the long-term effects of killing Egypt's pigs largely remains to be felt, both by the Coptic communities that benefited from income generated by the pigs, and by the tone of Muslim/Christian relations in Egypt. Although Muslim/Christian tensions sometimes run high, I have been surprised by the level of integration, even to the level of marriages between Copts and Muslims, (although this is rare).”

Why The Smartest People Have The Toughest Time Dating

“I am a perfect example of what this article talks about:
I am a 32 year old guy who happens to be really good looking (I am told so all the time) and am a dedicated professional who did really well in school and college(dean's list, scholarships, awards etc).
My Problem: I was really scrawny and weird looking as a kid. I would get the rudest comments. I didn't really care as I was into my studies. But Somewhere along the way my appearance changed dramatically and I now that I have the brains and the looks both I am so unable to find a decent girl to spend time with or have fun with. Maybe....a nd it's my guess only that because my personality still has a bit of the nerdiness left it makes me a little uncomfortable approaching girls as I fear rejection even before I talk. And I hate it. My friends have a hard time understanding how this could be so difficult for somebody who looks like me. And I am not a nerd or a geek anymore either. But mentally sometimes your past experiences condition you in a bad way. But I have hope...”

“Are you kidding? Do you have a clue how many Democrat / liberal lawyers sacrificed their careers trying to stand up to abuses in Justice and the Judiciary? How many were made to be politcal pariahs; had to make some tough choices whether to feed their families or speak out against the destruction of the Constitution. How many liberal professors were "complained about" by the progeny of Rush's listeners and their tenure challenged ?. There are parts of the Midwest were a democratic meeting attracted 10 people countywide, because of the ridicule of their neighbors and the ha te filled speech they parroted from the right wing media. Good people; talented people working at menial jobs because they were the wrong party; but the didn't sell out.

The Surprise Effect of Anti-Muslim Rhetoric in the Election
Commented Nov 23, 2008 at 03:52:03 in Politics
“When people refer to somebody by their religious or racial background that is always half the story. When you say somebody is White or Catholic for instance that is not ALL that person IS. Humans are way more complex than that and therefore it is truly childish to pigeon hole any individual except maybe in some rare cases. I believe there are mature, intelligent and thoughtful people in this world but they come in all colors and faiths. So I have a hard time identifying with people who prefer to associate with those of their faith or race only.”
