India Comes To The White House, All At Once

Commented Nov 25, 2009 at 22:58:05 in World

“Thank you, Dr. Chopra, for giving us all a glimpse 'inside the tent' at last night's State dinner. I couldn't be prouder of our President and First Lady, or more hopeful for a future that brings these great nations closer as allies, and more fully realized as the beacons of hope they have been and can be for the world.”

“Unfortunately, those 'facts' just get in some people's way of their predetermined opinions........they're not convenient to acknowledge.”

“Hey P, remember when Bush first went to Iraq under darkness. I thought it was great. Remember when he was doing the photo op? He was holding the beautiful turkey, remember? Well did you know that turkey was fake. You may not know this either but Obama visits the troops to. You just don't hear about it. Mrs Obama makes military family issues her priority. Did you know that? As far as Bush doing a good job. He sent soldiers to their deaths in Iraq for no other reason but oil and avenge his daddy. If he would had done his job in the first place and left the troops where they should have been in Afganstain in the region of Tora Bora where they had Bin Ladin on the run. Those are the facts. You chose not to believe it. If Bush stayed where he should have in the first place maybe our soldiers would be coming home now. I want Obama to take his time to think about the mission and how to do it properly and get out safely. Believe me many soldiers I know are happy Bush is out of office. He always just let someoneelse do his job. Cheney was the real president and Bush just said bring it on. That's what you think is great. I was shocked he said that since I still have many friends on active duty. I will tell you many of the wives were very upset about that.”

“Because the FAMILY wanted it that way! The President's visit as he grapples with the course our military will take going forward in Afghanistan speaks volumes about how he makes his decisions, and what he takes into account as the consequences of his actions.

GW Bush, et al, were so far removed from the real world consequences of their actions (and inactions) as to be a disgrace!”

henryberry replied on Oct 29, 2009 at 19:42:38

“Your reply is scrambled: I don't get the connection between GW Bush et al being removed from the real would, and the extended video coverage of Obama. I haven't seen anything that the "FAMILY" wanted it that way. And besides, there were more than one family. Maybe some other families would have liked a more private ceremony.

But given that there were some reasons for the video, why was it so lengthy? The last clip I saw on the the TV was of Obama walking into the White House "alone," as the TV announcer put it. The clip before this was of the presidential helicopter landing on the White House lawn. There were even clips of Obama getting out of his car.

I know the networks are desperate for free content. So you can understand them trying to prolong the event as long as possible. But in going along with this, Obama seemed to be milking it for all it was worth.

I also question the length of the coverage on aesthetic as well as crass grounds. To me, the tighter and more focused, the more dignified and memorable. Too long, and it's sloppy--which the event was. Obama could have made whatever points he wanted to make with less video.”

BastaDobbs Responds to Invite from Lou

Commented Oct 22, 2009 at 03:16:43 in Media

“Ahhhhh....... ignorance truly IS bliss, isn't it? As usual, the fear mongers and scapegoaters want to paint the issue as 'us against them', 'the good guys against the bad guys', 'the law-abiding vs. the "illegals"', 'the (colorless) citizens against the browns', when in fact the issues involved have nearly as many facets as there are undocumented residents in this country.

As a nation founded on principles of freedom, democracy and the pursuit of happiness, it's just so inconvenient when those pesky neighbors keep trying to "send us their poor". The irony would be laughable if it didn't involve real people's lives and families...”

sankyo replied on Oct 22, 2009 at 15:35:30
