Trayvon Martin Parents, Sybrina Fulton And Tracy Martin, Speak Out For First Time Since Zimmerman Verdict (VIDEO)

Trayvon Martin Parents, Sybrina Fulton And Tracy Martin, Speak Out For First Time Since Zimmerman Verdict (VIDEO)

Commented Jul 18, 2013 at 10:44:03 in Black Voices

“I think Trayvon's parents are taking the right approach. Don't be too angry or confrontational, because of public perception, and continue to ask questions and force answers from the federal justice system. If Zimmerman was allowed to murder their son legally, then the laws are broken and need to be changed.”

t.soprano1 on Jul 18, 2013 at 11:48:46

“Yes Trayvon had every right to murder GZ for following him and GZ had no right to defend himself. Not only that the police have no obligation to defend you either.THey could have stood by while Trayvon murdered GZ.The the only obligation they have is to arrest Trayvon.”

“This doesn't surprise me. Russell seems like another repressed gay man (he loves broadway and his speech is "fabulous") hating on other gay people (his connect with Jerry Falwell's Liberty University). This just feeds into that narrative. His insecurity over this and his neurotic need to succeed without the slings and arrows of criticism have broken him.”

“How many people actually read this and drink the one daily glass of wine? I know many more slovenly drunks who cite these studies to make excuses for their habit and absolutely no health conscious people who have one for their health.”

Caffeine89 on Mar 10, 2012 at 17:32:32

“*Raises hand*
I do. My grandparents (as in, all four) are alcoholics so I was raised to avoid. But I started menopause at 21 and family friend (retired Dr/older woman) and another Dr (specialist, used to dealing with much older women) suggested the one glass a night for various health reasons.
Its just directly before bed, after my son is asleep. I am still uncomfortable with drinking in general. But yeah, I do spec. for health. I know a few others as well that don't fall into the "problem" category, but you are right. I don't tell ANYONE IRL or recomend it, because I'm worried it would validate the wrong person :/”

detectivekornfed on Mar 10, 2012 at 15:08:02

“Well, you know the 1 person now. I began drinking 1/2 to 1 glass of red wine with dinner a few times a week last year when I read about the health benefits from Michael Pollans's book , "In Defense of Food", which is an excellent read :-) . I've bought many types of red wines, and have found no more than 6 that I like, so it's definitely been an eye opening process and experience.”

Sarah Palin: Obama Is Bringing Back Discrimination From 'Days Before The Civil War'

Commented Mar 10, 2012 at 08:48:30 in Politics

“Sarah is really trying hard to make the Limbaugh controversy about BIll Maher. What? That is a strange and pretty transparent deflection. I love Maher and remember his commentary on Palin. Honestly, some of it was a little cringe-worthy but the difference is that she is a public figure who invites harsh criticism with her inflammatory rhetoric. Fluke has not sought, or exploited attention the way Palin has nor inflamed partisan hostilities with incendiary pejoratives like Palin.”

Trishann on Mar 10, 2012 at 09:15:17

“You are right. Ms. Fluke made the mistake of being a woman wanting to comment on how the Republican All Boys Club policies regarding would impact on women. Of course she wasn't allowed to speak because the All Boys Club knows what is best for all women. And since Ms. Fluke was intelligent and not afraid, she must be verbally abused by the All Boys Club Enforcer, Rush Limbaugh. Ms. Palin would have to accept the truth about this whole thing and she won't because it does not fit the story she wants to tell.”

Russell Simmons: 'Every Single One' Of My Employees Pays More Taxes Than Me

Commented Sep 30, 2011 at 11:22:55 in Business

“And you say socialist like it's implicitly a bad thing. Karl Marx was a genius with a sympathetic heart for the average working person. If we studied the underpinnings of his theories in public schools instead of relying on propaganda and fear-mongering (looking at you ppmodern) then a lot more people would benefit from them. We've taken away the opportunity for informed choice in the matter.”

“Oh, absolutely, you're right, he was sympathetic with the average working person. He did have a good idea. The one little problem you overlooked is that he and his ideas led to millions of deaths. Why? Because, overall, not enough people embraced the idea, so his minions needed to resort to violence to implement their ideology.

But that's okay with you, right?”

Jail Pornography Case: Inmate Says Lack Of Porn Violates Constitution

Commented Jul 4, 2011 at 12:29:16 in Politics

“I know everyone is going to be against this on sight but I actually think this is a great idea. If research holds true, inmates who use pornography will be dramatically less likely to get involved in rapes and, this part is purely experiential, they will be much, much more calm. So for those of you will still don't care because it doesn't personally affect you; guess what that means? Less money spent on policing what will become a more placid population!! I know this will appeal to the more rational among you and that this argument will do absolutely nothing for bible thumpers and anti-pornography zealots. What do those of you in the former group think?”

As has been suggested, some time spent in tent city with Joe Arpaio would do Mr. Richards a world of good. It might teach him what jail is really about.”

The Militarized Surrealism of Barack Obama

Commented Jun 30, 2011 at 11:34:44 in Politics

“Thanks for this great article, Tom. I was really psyched about getting Obama into office after the war crimes of the Bush administration and from my perspective the anti-war sentiment was a big part of the Democratic movement in 2008. So I'm really angry about how Obama has pushed even harder on engaging in foreign wars while extending executive powers to initiate them to nigh unprecedented levels. I hope that more progressives stand up on this issue but it seems like many of them have accepted what they wouldn't under Bush because it's their man in charge now. I think a lot of this has to do with the way the media portrays the conflict. They use a lot of the same hyperbolic praise of our military to the point where it seems very radical to robustly criticize what they're doing in our name.”
