Obama's Afghanistan Strategy Has Echoes Of Bush

Obama's Afghanistan Strategy Has Echoes Of Bush

Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 10:19:34 in Politics

“Lets be honest. I seriously doubt that troops will be able to be withdrawn in 2011. Look how long troops are in iraq and iraq was a much better functioning country to begin with. There is no way our troops are going to be able to train the Afghans to defend their government from the Taliban in a short time. It will take a long commitment to secure the Afghan government and get it to function and defend the country independantly.”

“Isn't that the truth. Everything is more important than health care for americans. When any health care bill proposed the GOP simply claims it is too costly. But they don't hesitate to waste billions in a most likely useless war in Afghanistan where many young americans will needlessly die. Is this mixup in priorities the "american values" they frequently talk about. Our government's first priority should have been to make sure they fixed Health Care in this country. Yes, our government is indeed broken.”

“It's a shame Obama came into office at a time right after the financial crisis occurred. That gave the GOP a big opportunity to criticize his efforts to deal with it. Of course we don't know how well the GOP could have dealt with it if they were in power. The GOP doesn't seem to do anything or have any ideas to deal effectively with problems. Their ideas are only to stop what Democrats propose.”

“It's just another case of our government screwing up. This time its the Secret Service. Next time it will be some other agency. That is just the way they are, screw ups. All the problems our country has today is mostly government screw ups. I think the problem is that there is too much BS and too little accountability.”

“The private sector in this country has to be cut down to size. The government needs campaign/donation finance reform immediately. We need a single payer Government controlled healthcare system. We need tort reform. We need studies allocated to determine ways to reduce health care costs and ways to provide better more effective health care..We need extensive reform in laws controlling the financial sector. We need stronger laws protecting consumers. We also need to stop the influx of illegal aliens. Our GOV. has been ineffective and has failed terribly in all these areas. We need better ways of holding government officials responsible for their actions. We need our government to stop playing around in Afghanistan because there is no purpose to be there and it just wastes money and American lives. All this is just plain common sense but it seems our government doesn't have common sense.”

“"Democrats may suffer" ?? No, Democrats will absolutely suffer if health care legislation without a decent public option is not passed. And they will deserve such a fate if they don't deliver. That is what we voted for in electing Obama.

I have to say that our government is a totally dysfunctional and corrupt entity. How can you have lawmakers and political leaders taking money from private corporations. This is a total conflict of interest. My God, such conflicts of interest are not even allowed in other aspects of life. Even in the private sector we vilify so much, these conflicts of interest situations are frowned upon or not allowed. How did we ever let our government get away with doing this. More to the point, how can you trust a politician who takes money from private corporations to act in the best interests of the people. It is just disgraceful. Words can't even convey my disgust. No wonder Congress allowed the financial sector into the ground. Right now e shouldn't be having a conversation about it we should rather be having a revolution in this country.”

“Scientists tend to be liberal because republicans don't usually deal well with all the uncertainties that science faces. You have to be somewhat open minded to be a scientist They like religion better because it gives answers to all the questions. They would rather go into the fields of accounting or law where things can be determined with more certainty. In other words, they are uncomfortable with uncertainty and the unknown. Oh, the poor little GOPers, they are scared. Donate a lollypop for one of them today, lol”

“Palin is a total boob. Who cares what she believes except those right wing religious wingnuts. The HP should stop giving Palin the publicity she so dearly desires.. There is only one disconcerting fact I feel uncomfortable with about the history of life. All organisms alive today share the same genetic code, which means they all are descendants of the same original primitive cell when it formed, maybe some 3 billion years ago. This means that we are all related, albeit maybe in distant fashion, to Sarah Palin. Yuck, what a depressing thought.”

The company even brought in a "consultant" to work with him (the only time they ever did that for anyone) to determine why he had so many problems with subordinates. It didn't dawn on him that the company perceived there was a problem with him. He was so narcissistic and in denial he tried to blame it on everyone else. Total self delusion on a very grand scale.”

“Forget about her books, her antics, her comments, her speeches. For once give this woman the attention she deserves, which is absolutely none. As an American I am ashamed that this woman was ever allowed to run for VP. The HP should forget about her and bury the memory of her. It would be doing this country a great service if everyone did that.. Having her in the spotlight is like America continually airing its dirty laundry. What you should remember and cogitate about is not what this wretch is up to now, but what is the flaw in our political system that allowed such an unqualified shameless individual to run for VP of the US. More importantly, you should also consider what kind of political party is the GOP to support a candidate like this.”

“I see this as a no brainer. GET OUT of Afghanistan. Leave those people alone. What will be accomplished in Afghanistan ??? I hope we don't intend to stay there forever to build a modern democracy from the ground up - which would probably be almost impossible anyway. Why stay there-
for Al Quida ?? They are in other countries also. Are we going to those countries to track them down??
NO, forget about them. They are not worth the effort. We havn't captured Bin Laden for all these years.
The guy will die of old age before we capture him. Don't waste American lives playing around in a country where nothing will be accomplished except generate more ill will towards the US. We have huge financial problems at home and can't afford to waste money on senseless military operations.”

House Bill Will Lack Robust Public Option

Commented Oct 28, 2009 at 23:31:48 in Politics

“Listen, nothing they have done has been a "HUMUNGOUS accomplishment". This country is already decades late in doing something about the health care problem. We have to hold our government accountable for the things they have failed to do. It is our government's fault the heath care issue has not yet been dealt with after all this time and it is likewise our government's failure for not having the appropriate laws in place that could have prevented the excesses of the financial sector and the resulting financial crisis. And now you want us to accept some shlock job on health care with no real effective changes. Anything except a robust public option is worse than worthless. You know it and I know it. You say "no system is perfect" . Well our system must have a death wish because our Government has again failed to do what is necessary to fix the problems in this country. No, I would not support the President any longer if there is not a robust public option in that bill. And people out there should be complaining about our government's failures and ineffectiveness. Look at what they are doing about Afghanistan - no decision or direction or clear goal. Give me a friggin break !”

“The reason there is such an obsession among the left about Palin is that she represents a holocost that didn't actually come to be (VP that is) but only threatened, an absolute horror to progressives until she and McCain lost the election. Palin maintains our attention because we are always amazed and shocked with the frightening thought that the Palin phenomenon really happened and that she was (and still is) praised by many leading republicans and conservatives. This is abominable and reminds most progressives that conservatives are dangerous; they are enemies of the recovery and advancement of our American society.”
