“Simple solution: Don't watch, but definitely don't hold yourselves
out at arbiters of taste”

Raul Garcia replied on Nov 25, 2009 at 13:42:53

“Due to the lack of taste throughout today's 'hip' culture, we need more arbitrators of taste such as myself.

For great examples of taste in modern music watch the Sounds of Miles Davis and the Last Waltz, and for a good example of what happens when class and taste are no longer the audience's baseline for musical enjoyment watch Gimme Shelter.

His performance was par for the course in the line

It is definitely homophobic outrage. EVEN if you

“Wrong! He is nowhere in the Madonna or Prince category. And, even Adam admitted (in the interview on the video), that it wasn't his best performance.

The song was awful because he screamed too much. Vocally, he's still needs a lot more practice.

Absolutely nothing wrong with him being gay, but it is wrong to overrate his singing abilities.”

“It is the job of entertainers to speak truth to power.

It is NOT about "respect" and "respect" of what? What is the "position"
that deserves respect here? I don't see it at all.

And the interviewer faux outrage for the "children" is preposterous.
Adam was spot on in his entire interview except for calling her out
for her grandstanding "it's for the children"

If children "get" simulated oral sex. Or "simulated" grabbing of a
dancer's crotch chain...then they are not "too young" to see it.

It's like all you people think when a child asks: "Where does a baby
come from?" that they imagine the Kama Sutra...when the answer
"The hospital" is probably sufficient at one age and another answer
at another...

Adam, ROCKS and keep it up brother.”

rnotalone replied on Nov 25, 2009 at 13:38:05

“Would you do that performance in front of your mother and sisters? If not, you are respecting them. If you would, then you are not. S.e.x is personal and to perform it on stage (even in simulation) is disrespectful and displays a total lack of Class. If he plans on working as a class act, he is going down the wrong road. And being gay or straight has nothing to do with having class!”

“Sadly, there is a real challenge to the carbon dating.
About the only legitimate one. It has to do with a process
of "reweaving".

First, for the record, I'm about the most ornery atheist
on Huffington post and out and proud of my total distrust
of religious and theistic thought of beliefs.

Having said that, there is reason to believe the part of the
cloth that was tested was contaminated with much later
and dyed to match materials that both would have made
the "test" date much later BUT even more, it explains the
exact nature of the differences in the dating from the four
different testing facilities.

You can read a little of the related analysis in a web PDF
http://www.shroud.com/pdfs/textevid.pdf

I would very much like a NEW carbon dating of a less
questionable sample.

“This happens every few years. Someone in the Church with a title speaks out but the official position is it is not verified. They keep playing this game for publicity. They will never authenticate it because dead bodies don't bleed and that would challenge the creed as well as the Crucifixion story. Remember he was speared in the side to make sure he was dead. They have painted themselves into a box with this and move from corner to corner never really staying put very long as a moving target is harder to hit. The biggest problem with the whole story is the body being taken down especially within hours. The roads into Jerusalem were lined with thousands of crosses holding rotting bodies. There was a constant rebellion ongoing. At that time Roman soldiers really were Romans and they did not take kindly to anyone who killed them. Some provincial troops were coming in to the army like the Galicians but they were considered true Romans by the Italians. I would like to see the truth come out on this but it will have to be taken away from the Catholic Church before that will happen.”

notb observer replied on Nov 21, 2009 at 00:05:34

“Everything you say is correct :) One detail that is interesting is that none of the scientists involved in the dating picked up on this big mistake. It was an average Joe who happens to be a religious man (and his wife) who did a lot of digging and research and after much effort finally convinced experts to listen to them.
I am in the same camp as you are with respect to religion, but you have to hand it to this older couple for the work they did. At the end of the day, we should all be interested in the truth, no matter where it might come from :)”

“This is fine and reasoned thinking.
But it also costly. After all, the word
"God" is in the declaration of Independence.

But we KNOW perfectly well it's not
the 'same' word by a given church.

So why go though all the trouble of
rewriting all the laws, tax code, etc.
so we can eliminate the word marriage.

Let's just agree the word has both a
civil and religious meaning. And
have the religious sects of this nation
which are not to be imposing their
religious practice on the nation, shut
up and realize that word is civil too.

Warmly,

Paulie Sabol”

“The Declaration of Independence is not a legal document meant to set down laws. That distinction belongs to the US Constitution which does not mingle God with the Laws of the Land.”

“Thanks for the measured and well-written response. My greatest fear in the matter is that we will never be able to get people to come to a consensus that all people should be treated fairly.

It seems so simple to me. Marriage is a religious rite. State government should NOT interfere in religion. Renaming the license as domestic commitment or some other neutral tern would effectively release the state from their intrusion into religion .

Birth certificates are the same as certificates of live birth. Why should a certificate for two people to live together for economic stability and right -to-choose options be any different.

The legislature could then enact a law recognizing all of the prior licenses, and their commitments, as valid.”

“This idea that Congress doesn't have the obligation
to extend rights to the "new kids on the block" must
be the same thinking that allowed the founders to
count a slave as 3/5th of a person.

Or allowed Jim Crow laws.

Equally odd to me is, why then do not the rights
of marriage "phase in" for all married couples.

Okay, so on your first anniversary you get these
rights. By your second you get these. Finally,
you're actually 'married' in the eyes of the law
for all benefits on your 10th anniversary.

It's just ridiculous.

And that's the rub isn't it? Something that to
a reasonable person is wholly unreasonable
is codified into the law of the land...

“It's not our day alone.
Equal protection is a key and fundamental
protection against tyranny and oligarchy.

Equal protection is the codification to help
prevent "all being equal" but some being
"more" equal than others.

The confused opposition will try to say
"Gays" have the same rights because
they can marry a man if they're a woman
or a woman if they're a man...hence equal.

But this is allowing some to be MORE
equal than others, because SOME can
marry the person they love and want to
marry.

The more that marriage is move from a
property transaction alone and moved to
being an emotional investment that carries
property rights (limiting the STATE mind you)
the better it is for all.

“Onlooker, this is a tricky question.

It seems to be generated to sooth you in some way.
Of course there will be others who fall in line with the
position you're stating...however, even if a majority of
people were "on your side" it in no way determines
the validity or truth of the claim.

Think of it this way...

Should we ever identify a 'subject' that someone
should not be able to 'weigh in on' with his/her
opinion / conscious ...solely because of his/her
age?

Cheers,

Paulie Sabol

PS Again, because anyone can weight in on a
subject, doesn't prevent the 'other side' from
showing the position to be flawed.

However, the weighing should take place, I
believe.”

TheOnlooker replied on Nov 13, 2009 at 08:34:01

My issue is that I am just surprised that 10 year old can have the maturity to understand what marriage is, what the gay/lesbian issues are to be able to make a stand like that. My issue is NOT with people (whatever their age) learning about or increasing their knowledge about things, but my issue is with grandstanding and publicity stunts.

As the midterms tend to draw older, homogenius, and hetro-

The last election changed everything as far as I'm concerned. I am now active. I call my reps. I ask questions. I volunteer. I've "bought in" and believe in the power of my voice.

This is a wonderful time!

As far as preventing apathy, I think the resistence being put forth by the opposition will make apathy unacceptable and people will see, feel, and know it and therefore stay involved. That's one of the reasons I am staying engaged.”

That's why he's strong. There aren't a lot of fence sitters, and the ones on the against side feel good about themselves while they slowly tear their ethics apart.”
