“Where were these guys when Rumsfeld was silancing the generals who estimated that it would take over 300,000 troops to properly occupy Iraq? I seem to recall that while Bush claimed that he was just doing whatever the generals told him to do (so that he would not be blamed for failures), he had Rummy and Cheney working behind the scenes to make sure that the generals only recommended what the White House wanted them to recommend.

“Remember, a lot of that bailout money will be paid back. Spending our way out of a deep recession is no fun and will cause pain for many years (and could cause inflation if not handled exactly right), but it may have saved us from a world wide depression.

“Indeed.
Let's see, the national debt was around 5 or 6 trillion (and on its way down) when Bush took office and is around 10 trillion now. I know facts have a liberal bias, but that's about double. Since Obama took office, the debt has increased by a few percent. Now it may very well double again under Obama's watch, but even if McCain had won, there is not much he could have done to change that. At least when Obama wants to increase health coverage, he has a plan to pay for it. That's more than the Repubs did when they created the prescription drug benifit for medicare.”

“While I'd expect the Dems to lose the 60 seat majority in the Senate, I would be surprised if they lost either the house or senate in 2010. Their majority is too large and Republicans are too unpopular.
Will people really vote back in the party that spent like drunken sailors and doubled our national debt? Oh that's right, the Repubs are all about fiscal responsibility when out of power.”

“You expect people to remember? The "Bush excuse" is what's hurting Dems right now, this is largely seen as a lack of policy impact. Yes, Bush is still in some minds, esp. on here, but largely, it's seen as the current leaders policies in "action". American forget.”

“Take police for example. A policeman may be shot, not because the shooter has anything against him personally, but because of who he is. That puts him at greater risk of harm and therefore, greater punishments are needed to discourage attacks. While killing him may be murder, which is already illegal, attaching greater punishment to the crime might make somone think twice before pulling the trigger.”
