“the source of your information?

Seems in a cursory review of imported Korean labor from WW2 that Koreans were allowed to repatriate to North or South Korea as they preferred, are given the right to claim Japanese Citizenship, and even claim many benefits if they choose to keep their Korean citizenship.

“Just saw it on aTV special.... And they have allowed Japanese back from Peru? and and another South American country .. slightly, since they have a declining population... But the japanese want to keep their country pure... per the special.. and it was not FOX News. A poll said 80% of Japanese were agints immigration/nationalization.

Yes per the article the Japnense strongly supported the repatriation of what they basically called Low Lifes/criminals/communist starting back in the 50s (eventhough Japan's conscriptions can go back as far as 1910. They did not start allowing naturalization until 1985... and only 1/3 have been naturalized of the remaing 700K koreans out of the original 5 plus million Japan had control over..

I will check. The forced name changes I have heard many times before . This may explain it fro your 2md article best"

"Less than 20 percent of Korean high school students are registered under Korean names. Many try to pass themselves off as Japanese to get good jobs or get into good schools. If their secret is discovered they are sometimes fired or expelled."

“Terrorists aren't one step ahead, they used the same type of explosive that the Shoebomber did in 2001. The news is that we have apparently done nothing since December 2001 to screen for it!

There will always be targets. We cannot harden all of them. Invading the rest of the world until they appreciate us and like us isn't much for a strategy. And So it Goes.”

“The REAL news story SHOULD be that since the Richard Reid "Shoebomber" case of December 2001, apparently NOTHING has been done to address or counter PETN explosives being brought aboard airliners. Trillions of dollars spent fighting endless insurgencies yet given almost a decade we can't train enough bomb sniffing dogs or install proper detection equipment to cover international, let alone domestic flights. Guess it would have cost too much money. This failed attempt should be considered a blessing in ways.”

lafayette2009 replied on Dec 29, 2009 at 01:47:13

“PETN is difficult to detonate, as setting it on fire will typically not cause an explosion. It is one of the ingredients of Semtex.

PETN is also used medically as a vasodilator in the treatment of heart conditions and a medicine for heart disease, Lentonitrat, is nearly pure PETN.”

BTW: Republicants controlled the House at that point, and the Senate was 50/50. So what's the next excuse going to be?”

“Even viewing it as an act of war, do you immediately inform your enemy of their latest attempt, how close to success it was, how it was foiled, what you know about their position? That's an awfully poor way to conduct a war, don't you think?

Damage to our vehicles from IEDs is classified so that the enemy cannot determine the degree of their success. How is this ANY different?”

“so how common is it for any kind of law enforcement to be releasing details of evidence during an ongoing investigation, 48 hours after the crime? A university educated person with "training" tried to light their pants on fire on a crowded plane? Really, no one considered doing it in the bathroom? So government officials release details about the failures of the device, the identity of the masterminds behind the plot; tipping off the terrorists off in multiple ways. Either the FBI is leaking like a sieve (for partisan/political purposes) or they are completely incompetent, or this is a concerted PR blitz to support certain political and policy initiatives. I just can't believe or don't want to believe that professional counter terrorism is conducted like this. If I was Obama I would start by finding whatever officials are feeding the media frenzy and put them on ice.”

“My point is priorities and rational responses to problems. Yes, we must deal wit terrorism against the US, but it often seems like we are putting out an oil fire with water, and the fire is simply spreading. We will never be able to kill all those who wish ill of America, that's just a reality. Even many of our generals have stated there is no military "solution". We need to kill and contain terrorists without producing more terrorists. I am simply saying there are limits to the safety and security government can provide, and the costs must be weighed with the benefits.

We ARE a democracy. Granted we are not a direct democracy, but who ever sustained a direct democracy and how realistic or practical is that? Representation of the people's will via elections and voting is spelled out in the Constitution. Are you suggesting the US should do away with elections?”
