60+ House Democrats Say "Any" Health Bill With No Public Option Is "Unacceptable"

Commented Dec 28, 2009 at 10:36:20 in Politics

“Just like GB II, this administration has come up with it's version of a scare tactic, is anyone willing to defeat the most sweep health care reform in history since Teddy Roosevelt? The next opportunity will happen when the Hailey comet returns, etc.
Sad to say we’re beating a dead horse…..”

Sorry, no free passes for people who drug and rape kids, no matter how decadent Hollywood and Paris may be, and no matter how "trivial" this all seems in such circles.”

Slouching Toward Health Care Reform

Commented Dec 17, 2009 at 13:09:45 in Politics

“Excellent read.

If cost controls are inadequate or barely exist what's the point? We've gone from insuring those with no insurance to gauging the government as well as people with insurance. As far as I know the insurance companies were not asked to take on the roll of providing insurance for free. Why is this creating such turmoil? Why can’t a stand along entity manage health care for people who can’t afford insurance? It really is not that complex.”

ThePeacemakers replied on Dec 17, 2009 at 13:37:56

“They're not regulated, they will jack up prices and your comment about "a stand alone entity" may eventually be more accurate than you can imagine.”

Lieberman, Republicans and Why Change Still Means Something

Commented Dec 15, 2009 at 08:41:00 in Politics

“The Republican Party made the legitimacy of our president a tactic so people would forget why we are in the mess we’re in. It appears they have succeeded. The economy, the bailouts and the budget deficits are the democrats fault. Not only do the republicans lack a platform they also lack morals. During one of the most demanding periods in our lifetime they chose politics over the good of the nation. In the process they have weakened the moral fiber of our country and demeaned the office the Presidency of the United States. Like a boomerang this behavior will in the end cause to Republican Party to fade into oblivion in the not to far future. Moderation always seems to work.”

Glenn Beck's Revolution, And Ours

Commented Nov 25, 2009 at 09:22:09 in Media

“Good Read.
Beck for once has the right idea but as usual is misguided by his own ignorance. Both political parties have demonstrated time and again that they can not run the country. The solution appears to be a merging of the two parties to create a non ideological one. The platform needs to fix the mess we are in. There are a number of Senators from both parties, present and past who could credibly work together to fix the system. Bouncing back and forth between parties will cause further frustration amongst us and nothing will be accomplished. Beck’s idea of an extreme third party will only fracture the system even further.”

C Pollard replied on Nov 25, 2009 at 14:57:55

“Again, you haven't listened to Beck. He doesn't trust either party. Listen sometime. And not just for an hour, it takes a few weeks to get where he's coming from. Can he be over the top? Duh, that's obvious. But it's not a political thing, it's a human thing.”

Old Mistakes Die Hard

Commented Nov 24, 2009 at 14:51:45 in Business

“Hope you get to read this....Any term limit without public financing is antidemocratic since corporate interest can simply purchase the candidate which is what's causing the crisis were in.”

WASanford replied on Nov 24, 2009 at 15:41:16

“I agree with you that corporate interests buying the services of our representatives with campaign donations is a big part of the problem we face. It is at the very least unethical and it should be a crime that leads to jail time for both lobbyist and the representative.

Publically financed campaigns can and probably should be done at the state level. This affects both members of the House and Senate as well as state legislators.

Term limits can be imposed by the voters who get a chance at that every two years. Other than preventing a district from reelecting someone they are happy with, I just don't get what the idea of term limits is supposed to accomplish.”

The Ersatz Public Option

The Ersatz Public Option

Commented Nov 20, 2009 at 08:52:29 in Politics

“We constantly heard “contact your representatives and let them know how you feel”. After numerous letters I got the same response. My republican legislator spits out the republican stance, my democratic representative wants to make sure the bill is a responsible one and forget about a response from white house. During the entire process I was besieged for money to insure the public option would be viable even while it was being debated in congress. Medicare for all is a noble concept; it will end up in the congressional record and that's it. The brightest spot of this entire fiasco is we know who represents the interest of the people and who represents the interest of business. The devil will be in the details and let’s hope we’re not scr@wed.”

Is the House Health Care Bill Better than Nothing?

Commented Nov 09, 2009 at 09:50:48 in Politics

“I personally think we went into the health care reform the wrong way. The first steps should have been election reform and term limits. How can we expect to accomplish anything if the entities we are trying to reform control the dialog? It is unclear what the final bill will look like but if this turns into as boondoggle our party will suffer the consequences for years to come.”

PunxatawnyPhil replied on Nov 09, 2009 at 11:27:46
