“Nope, I blame the Gore Commission and the Clinton Administration for failing to do anything to secure our nations airports.

Five years after its completion, they had not implemented a single recommendation . . . but then again, they were only recommendations and put most of the onus on the Airports and Airliners.

Bush only had eight months to get his Cabinet together and was being roadblocked at every turn. He was forced to use what he had in place. If you remember, he asked those who were in place to stay on until replacements were confirmed.

Not only that, but the policies we had in place at the time forced airline pilots to go along with ter r o r ists demands for fear that if anything happened to passengers due to their actions, Airlines could be held liable. Policy dictated that demands be followed to the letter.”

“Actually, the biggest failure was not listening to the mans father who warned them of the dangers.

Second, was the Ambassador and staff at the Nigerian Embassy for failing to forward what they learned of him.

Third, were those who are administering the no-entry/no-fly lists for failing to reconcile the lists they already have.”

JulieDole replied on Dec 28, 2009 at 23:24:15

“True - that MAN never would have gotten onto a plane in the Ben Gurion Airport:

"Israeli airport security, much of it invisible to the untrained eye, begins before passengers even enter the terminal. Officials constantly monitor behavior, alert to clues that may hint at danger: bulky clothing, say, or a nervous manner. Profilers -- that's what they're called -- make a point of interviewing travelers, sometimes at length. They probe, as one profiling supervisor told CBS, for ``anything out of the ordinary, anything that does not fit." Their questions can seem odd or intrusive, especially if your only previous experience with an airport interrogation was being asked whether you packed your bags yourself.

Unlike in US airports, where passengers go through security after checking in for their flights and submitting their luggage, security at Ben Gurion comes first. Only when the profiler is satisfied that a passenger poses no risk is he or she allowed to proceed to the check-in counter. By that point, there is no need to make him remove his shoes, or to confiscate his bottle of water."

These people serve a crucial function.”

so who is sabotaging who? president obama has a right to at least have the cabinet nominees he has put forward brought up for a vote, and the republicans won't even permit that.

PK,

Thanks for the well wishes, we're doing fine. I hope you're are doing well also.

As for the point you're making, this is politics as usual. Let's remember that eight months after Bush took office nearly all his nominees were being held up by Dem's who did everything to make his presidency a livinghell. It wasn't until after nineeleven that roadblocks were finally removed because we were under attack. Then, weeks later, he fell under direct assault again for supposedly ignoring vague warnings that "OBL was determined to attack the United States."

Obama, has hardly even nominated his cabinet posts. Instead he's created new offices through direct appointment not accountable to Congress and hence, not subject to consent or confirmation.

As for this being Bush's TSA, sorry but that won't wash. Bush's Administration was still filled with Democrats appointed by Clinton, yet Bush took the blame for their failures with no sympathy and no excuses allowed.”

peacekitten replied on Dec 28, 2009 at 23:21:38

“it was under the BUSH administration that i was given back a large knife at airport security. and the TSA was created in response to 9 1 1.

if obama is going to be blamed for this, it's really not exactly fair to try and lay bush's failures at clinton's feet for a department that didn't exist under his administration.

and if everything supposedly changed with 9 1 1, then how can the right justify politics as usual?

whether that comes from the right or left, doesn't make it right.

glad to hear all is well.”

and it was under the *BUSH* TSA that i went through airport security where they took away my shampoo, terrified my blind, one eyed cat at security, x-rayed my purse and handed it back to me, having COMPLETELY overlooked the utility knife with the EIGHT INCH retractable BLADE i had forgotten was in the side pocket of my purse.

they took my shampoo, harassed my poor cat, and gave me back a KNIFE much larger than the pipsqueaks used by the 9 1 1 terr0rists.
