“It amazes me that Americans who give lip service to having a meritocracy would vote for people who active promote an elitist agenda. Can't they remember why we got rid of King George III? Because you are good at one thing doesn't mean you should have disproportionate power over people that work for you? If we want to have our children grow up in a world better than the one we grew up in we have to promote the best and the brightes. Paying women who do a better job than a man less than he makes is NOT a meritocracy.”
“Come to think of it. I've seen several studies that back tracked criminal's histories and how they were raised. I've never seen one that a viscious violent criminal was raised by gay parents. But, I can think of several that were raised in hetero homes.”

“Also most of the serious serial criminals were raised in homes of "high religious upbringing".”
“Children raised in loving homes makes healthy children. There is not reasonable study that says kids raised by gay parents turn out any worse off than those raised by a hetero couple. There are millions raised by a single mom that are healthy by any standard. In other cultures polygamy familes raise kids that are normal. So, why sweat it?”
“Interesting how this is a continuing thread for arguments conservatives have used to keep when barefoot and pregnant all the way back to the 1800's. Over the past five years Republicans have made arguments about birth control and relationships that could easily be lifted from the pre-suffraget arguments.”
“He had asked for help and the Army was doing the paper work, deciding if he really needed the help and how to treat him. As a country we need to rethink how we get help to those who teetering on a breakdown. Over and over we are hearing about the warning signs but the system just wasn't quick enough.”
“Funny Germany, France, England, even Costa Rica have been able to put enough money into health care so their citizens live longer than Americans. They aren't confiscating everything people who are successful have. How come they can pull it off and we can't. The reason is that our rich people are more greedy than theirs.”
“All this, millions of families going without, no trip to the dentist when you have a tooth ache, no vacation, struggling to feed their kids, millions of kids going to school hungry, all this so we can give big oil tax cuts who are making billions in record profits. So, millionaires can put their money in the Cayman Islands so they can avoid paying any taxes on the money they make. This is what happens when people with a LOT of money can give millions to Congressmen so they can be millionaires.
These very rich people only create jobs when they can turn a profit at it. They don't create jobs out of the goodness of their hearts. If people don't have money they buy NOTHING. What they are doing is putting their money if accounts outside the U.S. This is the stuff revolutions are made of. We just hope people don't get to the place where they say enough is enough.”

“Let's just give everybody everything they want. You no longer need to work, be responsible. We will take care of everything for you. Anyone who is successful, we will confiscate all that they have and redistribute it to those who do not. They went and put there money outside the country. Shame on them. Why would they put where they are actually allowed to earn interest.”
“People are afraid that people are zoning out on pot. But no one bats an eye when people are taking xanax to deal with the stress at work. What about Prozac? What about Paxil? Before you get too upset feel free to check out the side affects of perscription antidepressants: http://www.cchrint.org/psychiatric-drugs/antidepressantsideeffects/”

“That's an especially interesting list, because it is also a list of what WON'T happen to you if you smoke marijuana.”
“The idea that Republicans are going deny families the right to have control over how many kids they have puts them behind the curve and on the losing side of history. They talk about small government but they are constantly taking a stand that creates more government officials controlling our private lives. It makes no sense. Do they want America to be land of the free, home of the brave? Or, do they favor government control of the most intimate aspects of our personal lives?”

“No one is talking about all birth control, or even the major ones.......- its the abortion pill that prevents attachment of the viable fertilized egg to the uterine wall.
Its certainly not all birth control, not even the major ones that you are thinking of. . So the actual issue is- its only the very limited birth control that causes abortions via prevention of implantation of the fertilized and viable egg on the uterine wall (IUD's do this as do the morning after pills). So we are talking about the one time use pill that is used after UNPROTECTED sex to cause a mini abortion. The other types of progesterone altering birth control that prevents ovulation, and is a valid medicine for many preventative and for current disorders, is not an issue at all. The media is merely generalizing to sell their product because people wouldnt care as much if they were accurate "Hobby Lobby doesnt want to pay for abortion inducing pills" wow that sounds almost nothing like "Hobby Lobby doesnt believe it should pay for birth control" see the difference?”
“I was thinking of immigrants in general. Are you suggesting that it is an either or? Focus on those in school and shut the doors to immigration?”
OhioConserv on Mar 25, 2014 at 15:14:07
“I'm not suggesting we shut the door to immigration, but those who enter legally are the ones who get citizenship. But I would also suggest the emphasis be placed on our students who are already here.”
“Before Roe v. Wade thousands of girls and women died from back alley abortions. Our religious right wants to ignore the devistation to families when they lose loved ones. The scene is being set to go back to the bad 'ole days.
“Still no one is talking about favoring the best and brightest so we can make sure future generations have the tools to benefit the country. As it is now we favor first come first serve. Which makes no sense if we want new citizens that will give us the most bang for our buck.”
OhioConserv on Mar 25, 2014 at 14:58:28
“Best and brightest.. who are you talking about, mexican immigrants? What about focusing on the best and brightest right here in our own public schools?”
“Republicans are between a rock and a hard spot because their base don't want to help the brown people. But, the brown people are growing in number. Once they figure out there is power in voting Republicans will be more responsive.”
OhioConserv on Mar 25, 2014 at 14:53:55
“Repubs won't bend on undocumented immigrants. Same thing any other country would do.. enter illegally and you get kicked out.”
“Russia invaded the Crimea because the whole country sees it as the right thing to do. We don't agree. The invasion does not mean Russia is as dangerous as it was in 1970. It is not as big as it was. It does not have the military it did. Romney is stretching the truth. I don't think he is being disengenuous. I think he truly doesn't understand what he's talking about.”
“It's a publicity stunt. I hate to sound like a prude but in American culture for one to want to show naked images of oneself to the public is unhealthy. Many years ago i was in Pakistan where there were poor people in the streets who couldn't afford clothes. So, they were in the streets naked. No one got up set. It wasn't seen as an outrage. It was just how it was. In northern Europe people change clothes on the beach without the benefit of a changing room. They just sit down and take off their street clothes and put on the swim suit. It isn't a big deal. But Selena isn't in either of those countries. She is in the United States where public nudity is seen as an offense.
So, to want to go against the grain is to go against cultural norms is sometimes an action of rebelion. Or it is a base act of self promotion. Or, it can be a work of art. You be the judge.”
“Republicans still haven't figured out that their policies of cutting food stamps to kids, reducing health care available to most Americans actually cuts the life expectancy of Americans. We have the shortest life expectancy and worst infant mortaility rate of all the industrialized countries. Republicans can't grasp that they will actually be held accountable when THEIR polices make Americans die earlier and more frequently.
They'll whine on and on about death panels. But, it doesn't bother them that Americans are dying faster than they have to. The extreme right of Boehner, Cantor and McConnell really is the movement of the sociopaths of selfishness and narcissism.”
