How Obama's Nobel Prize Will Affect Our Children

Commented Oct 11, 2009 at 14:56:17 in Living

“Hi Danielle,

I believe President Obama's overtures have stilled many nervous military hearts and that alone made the world a safer place in general. It's a good start, he still has plenty to do but a good start is far better then we've seen in some generations.

“Hi Ed and Deb,

I loved this line, "Remember: we cannot stop the wind but we can adjust our sails." It makes me remember not to worry about what I think should be or what might have happened but didn't and just work on what is really there. It's like the old adage, "It's not the lions and tigers that get you, it's the mosquitos."

Individualism Run Amok

Commented Oct 11, 2009 at 11:38:55 in Living

“Hi Susan,

Perhaps I associate with a different crowd, but I'm blind to the fame and fortune seekers. Both of my sons and their friends want to live simple lives with families and friends. I'm referring to college students and some who are in the work force. I guess we're just lucky.

How We Unplug & Recharge

How We Unplug & Recharge

Commented Oct 11, 2009 at 11:24:12 in Living

“Hi Alana,

I'm a recent devotee to meditation and already feel it's benefits in helping unplug or as I prefer chill. I assume that as I practice,I'll get to know myself better and that will minimize unnecessary anxiety. I've already learned that worrying is a silly waste of time and have cut way back on that. But when I'm letting myself get too caught up and meditation is just too difficult, I pick up a guitar. Playing through a blues key with some improvisation and some familiar riffs and just deciding where the music will go as I'm palying totally relaxes me. Bend the string the exact amount to attain the flow, sound and pitch is like heaven. I enjoyed reading all of the writers comments. This was a wonderful idea.

Best wishes,

Will Spirituality Ever Be Serious?

Commented Oct 05, 2009 at 12:21:30 in Living

“Hi Omegaomni,

How do you pronounce that? Plese take this as the light hearted comment it is. I see a great deal of certainty in your statement: "Anything that claims certainty should be avoided." If I adhere to the advice, I must ignore it. I guess that's why they say, "there are no absolutes" and "everything is relative"

I consider myself spiritual. I know life exists, I live it and see others doing the same. I know that love exists, I do things for others because I love them and care about their well-being. I'm curious about the how and why of these self-evident truths. I just don't try to explain them because I'm just guessing the same as everyone with "The Answer". I'll just keep practicing and learning things that have practical use.

Be Cool

But I don't see eye to eye with you about Jay's article being a religious act. He's got some insight and shared uit with us. He didn't lecture or place a demand, he just told us what he feels.

“Hi LADawson,

If I were a member of congress and we were voting on a bill to allow torture, I wouldn't need to read the details to know that I'd vote aginst it.”

Bikada replied on Sep 02, 2009 at 11:33:31

“How can you possibly equate healthcare reform with torture?”

LADawson replied on Sep 01, 2009 at 14:24:54

“You still cannot make an educated vote without reading the legislation... and just because some people say that's what is in the bill, how do you know without reading it? The Republicans have repeatedly spouted things that are not in the health reform bill(s) as fact... and other people believe them. To this day many people who voted for the Patriot Act or the resolution to go into Iraq say they regret their vote because they didn't actually read the legislation. If they had actually read it, maybe they would have made a more educated choice, instead of just drifting with the prevailing wind of their party.”

“You've described the greatest difficulty liberals have to overcome in a discussion with conservatives. While liberals concern themselves with intellectual honesty, conservatives rely upon repetitive rhetoric and falsifications. Then when they're forced to abandon their lies due to overwhelming proof, they merely move on to the next misconception they can propagate. Yet when a liberal asserts a view based upon documentation and then the documentation cannot be proven to be original, they treat that one unproven statement as evidence of mud-slinging.”

Berettasskeeter replied on Sep 02, 2009 at 03:42:48

“Intellectual honesty?!? What a joke. Cruise on over to the entry on Bobby Jindal to see Liberal intellectual honesty. Obama takes a vacation, releases his reading list, and Liberals swoon. When Bush took a vacation, Liberals claimed he was evading the responsibilities of the office. So, which is it. One cannot evade while the other is having a "well-deserved" rest. And Jindal is using state transportation to get around his state, while Obama uses U.S. transportation to get around the country. Absolutely no difference, and yet the "intellectual honesty" of the Left can see one!
Yeah, tell us about the intellectual honesty of the Left.

“Hi Sadie,

Your writing resonates with me as being from an open minded master. Doctrine and Dogma too often replace spirituality for so many practioners of various philosophies. I studied Danzan Rye Jujitsu after experimenting with Karate and Kung Fu. The open and enlightened perspective drew me to that art . The key difference was Professor Henry Seishiro Okazaki's approach (I learned from a 2nd generation student) which was open to addition or deletion. Students are allowed to attend to their own limitations rather then risk injury following a rigid routine.

If you rely upon the rules, you're still not there.

“Rules, shmules.

I love what you said: " doctrine and dogma can replace spirituality..." so true, and so powerful a thought.

Movement is movement, until you put your soul into it---then it's yoga. It doesn't have to be from this or that master--just has to be YOU.

That said, many masters have an energy that you can be inspired around...but in the end, it's all up to you to sink into that inner space from which all true yoga flows.

THE GURU IS THE SELF, I would say...and all great masters will tell you that they are just reminding you through their self-attainment of what you already know, and are capable of yourself.

Thanks for sharing!”
