Were it not for the "respected Republican insiders" supporting her, obliterating the facade of legitimacy for the entire right wing politics and media machine, she'd be long gone by now. But the right wingers can't help it. They have a driving need to express their adulation for her (adulation built primarily around her "differentness" from the stereotypical "educated elite" that the right wing hates). It helps us understand their mindset better, so we can more confidently reject everything that they stand for.

Then we get all the Palin family drama sprinkled on top and it's just a delicious combination. I could go on forever, but I'd just like to say thank you. To Karl Rove for standing by her. To John McCain for picking her. To the Republican base for embracing Sarah Palin and showing us all what you're really made of. You have made the job of every Democratic strategist that much easier going forward, and you've made the world a much safer place by dividing and marginalizing the "torture and war" party.

“The thing that is most stunning to me is the apparent surprise that Fox does this. They do it all the time. They've been doing it pretty much every... single.. day... for years. Whoever has the time, inclination and unedited original footage could likely document hundreds of equivalent cases of Fox dishonesty, even including instances where they used footage of one event when discussing a different event, clearly attempting to mislead the audience about what they were seeing.

However, while Fox is, as usual, the worst offender in this regard, the behavior certainly isn't unique to Fox. It's part of what makes TV news TV news. If you actually want to get rid of this, you post the accepted recording date along with every single piece of video footage. But of course, no one in television news has any interest in ending this practice. It's a core part of their business at this point.”

If you'd care to prove this, go out and become a journalist and see how long you can delude yourself into thinking you're being impartial. I'd say the bell curve starts from a few minutes for the truly self-aware, to a few years for the self-deluded.

But it's a worthwhile exercise for anyone who still says things like "X isn't an impartial journalist!"”

“They've been doing this slightly more often lately. I've seen a few cases recently where the coverage actually bordered on fair and balanced.

They occasionally like to pretend they're fair, but that facade usually only consists of a single statement by a single host on a single issue. In the last few days I've seen several hosts correct a misconception in a non-purely partisan way. Normally they will embrace and advance every misconception that could possibly benefit the Republican party.

For a few days, at least, they've behaved slightly more respectably.”

“Just recently, in Chicago I believe, a 300 something pound man attacked a 120 something pound woman in a bar and the rest of the guys in the bar just watched as he pummeled her. She was apparently fine, but she could have been killed. I'll never understand the cowardice of most people.

I agree that the inmates who came to this guard's rescue should be rewarded for their actions.”
