it is only less than 50 yrs that minorities were allowed to even participate in the freedoms of america and lets also remember that its less than 100 yrs that women were allowed to speak up.
this is a racist bigot country full of incredibly stupid people -- religion proves that!”

“freethinker? sorry, but that word is reserved for the open minded persons that dont allow themselves to be lead around like sheep by the insanity of religion ...
we wont be civilized until you sheep find some sanity -- find out that what you do is delusional ... waiting on a dead fictional guy to SAVE u?? telling 2/3rds of the worlds population that they are doomed to a eternal lake of fire for non-belief???
THAT IS INSANITY ... THAT IS NOT FREE-THINKING ... THAT IS A TOTALITARIAN DELUSION ... hmmm similar to HITLER!”

“Freethinkers let people think for themselves - seems you are doing what you accuse the religious right of doing, condemning and labeling people because they are different from you. We all have the right to autonomy and self determination. This right is granted both by God and by the democracy we live in. Because I believe in God does not make me a sheep any more than being gay makes one a pedophile. Both beliefs are based on false and faulty premises. This rant of yours does not help the cause of gay rights and may indeed hurt it. If I find what I do is delusional, oh well I lived my life trying to help others. If you find what you do is delusional, oh hell.....what now?”

they promise false hopes for big $$$$ (out-right fraud!!!!)
they teach hell and damnation to their children -- teaching fear IS child abuse!!!
they force their archaic, judgmental and hate mongering on OUR society
they are NOT taxed under some obscure exempt status IF THEY DO GOODWILL ...
THEY MUST BE TAXED NOW ...
tax the church back to the dark ages
tax the church back to the stone ages
tax the church until they are finally dissolved ...
we wont be a civilized nation until they are at least defused!”

“Well you know everyone has a mixture of rationality and emotionalism in their makeup, that's part of being human. In most of us, the emotional takes precedence, as rationality must be nurtured and fostered if it is to overrule the emotional. And there are empirical studies that explore the psychological mechanisms of why these people still believe the mythology in spite of evidence of its irrationality. While I certainly agree with you about religious doctrines being fear-based, I would like to see people like you be a little more cognizant of and understanding of the human needs that are expressed in religious behavior.”

“Which church would you suggest? My church and school barely skim by on tuition and donations. Do you mean tax RELIGION or do you mean to exclude Temples, Mosques, and all other places of worship that do not qualify as a "church". Splitting hairs maybe but that's a slippery slope.

You might want to look in to religious revenues as well since most make money from members, who just happen to be average Americans, who are currently struggling to get by.”

“Churches are definitely businesses. When a church has enough money for advertising, building huge and lavish chapels, high salaries for clergy, etc. then they have gone from serving the community to serving only themselves.

Why are churches needed anyway? Why not use that money to feel or clothe people, or help the sick, and meet in people's living rooms? Why do they need huge auditoriums with schools and community centers? Why do they need to own property at all?

If it acts like a business, then tax it like any other business.”

TXpastafarian replied on Feb 24, 2009 at 09:54:34

“I agree. Churches are for-profit businesses. They are politically involved and the people who run them get rich. Giving churches non-profit status is government endorsement of religion. They should be taxed.”

“TAX THE CHURCH ... and see how spiritual and giving of good will they really are!!!!!

I agree. TAX THE CHURCHES! They ain't what they used to be!

Years ago I sat in the pew of my friend's Assembly Of God Church and listened to their pastor preach Jesus's message to "sell everything you have and give to the POOR, and you will have treasure in heaven". That pastor chose THAT message to serve as the lead in to his half-hour plea to give everything they have to the CHURCH, because he was falling short on the MILLIONS needed to complete the building of his NEW MEGA CHURCH.

My friend left that Church (she wouldn't tell me why) and now attends a Church much more modest in size & stature. Recently I made a donation in memory of her mother's passing. I would NEVER, however, donate to a Church that appears as though NONE of the donations going IN ... are going OUT to care for the poor!”
