“Commercial nuke plants run on Uranium 235, not 239Pu. Some Plutonium is produced in the process, but it's all those highly radioactive daughter products that were the problem. Even at that, what escaped were things like water, hydrogen (both with some atoms turned radioactive), maybe iodine - mostly only vapors, not particulates like the fire after the Chernobyl disaster carried into the air. Anyway, this was a small contamination; they happen wherever any nuclear materials are in use. We only heard about this one because it was TMI. Insert "too much information" joke here.”

“Very well said, and sadly it applies to our friends on the left too, and across the spectrum. I just had a conversation with some Liberal leaning folks who believe every myth, legend, and conspiracy theory that comes along. And woe be to science if it gets in their way. Apparently "science," in quotes, exists solely to cover up what they heard from some guy who says HE'S a scientist, but probably isn't. Still trying to figure that one out.”
