Obama One Year Later: The Audacity of Winning vs. The Timidity of Governing
Commented Nov 03, 2009 at 09:16:48 in Politics
“It's very easy to peer through a picture window and pick out the other guy's faults. It's tougher when you step into that environment and take on the other guy's mantle. However true, the perception is that President Obama doesn't have a sense of urgency that the rest of us feel everyday as we question whether our companies will keep their doors open, or if jobs are going to be available for our next round of college graduates, or if our neighbors are going to continue losing their homes. There are many layers to a Presidency, but addressing the most obvious elephant in the room, in this case, jobs and economy, will make a way for the other components to be plugged in with very little resistance.”

Why Keep Geithner?
Commented Nov 02, 2009 at 09:00:37 in Business
“Geithner rose up through the ranks of the most-corrupt bank and securities era since the S&L crisis. His knowledge of how things work is skewed. It had nothing to do with a fair system that everyone could buy into. It was about back-scratching and wealth-building with greed as a motivator. Geithner can never serve me, normal American, because the system he operates in limits participation. Again, I love my President, but Geithner and his philosophy of the 1% mentality is the worst press this administration could ever get.”

“I've got a friend who works in the mental health field - specializing with teenagers. She says that we would all be shocked at how many times her "girls" run off to the emergency room to get a pregnancy test. Ten bucks at the pharmacy, but no, they go to the emergency room because it's "free" or so they say - and then they have about 10 more tests run and the cost ends up being thousands for a damned pregnancy test.”

“Free, as in costing the taxpayers $1000 a year to keep these cesspools running for care that the ER was never designed for.
As I related earlier, ,When my Dad died in the hospital, a visitor who had come to see him, had a stroke as she was leaving and we had to try to get her help in the ER. I had never been in ER since my husband's death in 2000.
Honest to god, you would not take your dog or cat to this ER and I had no idea what it was like, This is at a major well to do hospital, too.”

“Reading through the comments brings me back to how pragmatic we are as a people. I believe one reader put it best; if we don't like Wall Street - stop investing. If we don't like insurance - opt out. The pocketbook always speaks the loudest, but the President has to be willing to hold corrupt parties responsible and make an example of an industry that still has one foot in the past administration.”

“Citigroup's CEO took home $100 million in compensation while they fired a record number of people during that time, some with 25+ years of service at the company, and not a nickle of severance. We cancelled our credit card with them and opened a different one. That is cause/effect in action. I know not everyone is in a position to take swift action, but for those who can I can attest that vindication is sweet!”

“I am certain that our President was left with a full plate of issues that would petrify anyone taking on a new leadership position, and frankly, if he were the head of any private sector business he would have been applauded day after day for rolling up his sleeves. The American people are pragmatic and patient, despite the rhetoric on both extremes. Most Americans are like me, grateful for a fresh approach, and we voted for this man to succeed for four years...not fail in nine months. I like my President and I'm proud of him. It's just sad that he has to wade through so much muck to get to work everyday.”
