“Good post. There is not enough attention to the good things that are being said or done by this president, or others in his admin or around the country. And the same message can be said for other "non-news" stories, like the firing of Van Jones. I don't know a whole lot about him, but I did see him speak eloquently on a pro-environment symposium:

http://awakeningthedreamer.org/

I think there is more to this deep thinker than just an out of context sound bite. If you have to judge him (ye who purport to be "non-judgemental" ), then see him and others based on their WHOLE record and intentions, not just some isolated phrases or incidents.”

“The Rabid Right wing lost a legitimate election to our first black president. They can't take it. Now they are using their primary tool - violence and intimidation in a juvenile temper tantrum. Remember that its usually the left that takes the hit from the fascistically minded: HItler and ultra nationalism were tilted way to the right, and exercised mind control over the uneducated and fearful; Remember some of the most influential Liberals and crusaders for Peace and Freedom of modern times fell to crazed, right-wingers/would be moralists/ and/or rascists - Gandhi, Kennedy, MLK, Lennon, Rabin... Violence and hate is the most effective language the ultra-conservatives know best. Get ready to stand up Progressives, and non-violently push back the ignorance with some Truth, rock and roll ethics, common sense, Peace Light and Love.”

“I disagree a bit. Just like conservi-Dems Ben Nelson and Bayh and a few others, Maine's Collins and Olympia Snow can be pressured to accept a people's Health care plan. Obama, Reid and Pelosi should continue to work with those Republicans who are independent thinkers (sorry for the 90% oxymoron).

Yes I agree that Obama needs to be much more assertive, and stick to his guns, but I also don't want the Dems to ramrod legislation in the fascisto style that Republicans led Congress earlier in the decade. We can be better than that. Peel off those waivering Republicans, and then we won't have to worry about Benedict Lieberman or Nelson.”

Instead of that national "revulsion" (to your campaign, and the reason you LOST!!) , try global warming starting with the "Industrial revolution" beginning in the 1800's - e.g. smokestacks, machines, burning of fossil fuels etc...”

“You still don't get the point. Charity has no political affiliations. It comes from kindness and compassion. Plus you are extrapolating behavior from a handful of high profile neocons to color a whole demographic range. And if you're saying that conservatives in their present day manifestation generally have more compassion than Progressives, I'd check your prescription before the next refill.”

“You got to be kidding. Who started the Peace Corps and AmericaCorps? And funny that most of the people I know who join those humanitarian programs are flaming Liberals. No one has cornered the market on charity, radical, so you probably need to stow this red herring.”

radicalcapitalist replied on Jun 13, 2009 at 08:13:52

“I'm not kidding! Here's more -

George W. Bush and Dick Cheney have continued this Reagan record. During the early 1990s, George W. Bush regularly gave away more than 10 percent of his income. In 2005, Vice President Dick Cheney gave away 77 percent of his income to charity. He was actually criticized by some liberal bloggers for this, who claimed he was getting too much of a tax deduction.

The main point of liberal compassion appears to be making liberals feel good about their superior virtue. Such are the rewards of being a “friend of goodness.”

One place to start would be to keep pushing and enlisting in the "Green Party" and LIbertarian. I agree that the Dems need some counterbalance once in a while. However If these other parties have valid ideas, they will survive - a la Darwin's idea of "survival of the fittest". “Touche', I agree and an overall good, stimulating post to boot. A lot of our big problems began with Ronald ("Starwars") RayGun, who somehow was able to hoist a conservative mantra on the disaffected and pin blame on Jimmy. Raygun started the idealogical debate to distract from the fact that Repubs still had corrupt/cancerous cells around their margins despite the successful surgical removal of the Nixonian cancer. Raygun may have been a nice guy personally, but he instilled false hope and was an unrelenting idealogue with even more intolerant allies (Falwell, Moral Majority). Next to him/them, Obama is a centrist just trying to show everyone some common sense.”

“Just wondering aloud: What happens to extra campaign funds? Looks like with his record breaking fundraising, Obama may not need all of the cash. Would it help critics who say that he abandoned public financing that in the next week to the run up of the election, to say that he may give back some of the extra campaign money, or donate it to a good cause...? “We all need to re-read William Ophuls, "the Politics of Scarcity". We are mistaken that economies will continue to GROW forever. Resources are limited and FINITE, and sustainable approaches are what is needed to keep steady growth and avoid decline. Combine this with John Kenneth Galbraith's ideas, and a responsible welfare state, and then we can develop and grow a middle class for people around the world.”

“yes but greed isn't which is why Wall St. and Republicans try to convince us that it's good but what they don't realize is that greed is a dead end in and of itself and once we are all fed and housed then everything else is just surplus.

Think. If all of the effort and work put towards toys for the rich were put toward food and shelter we would realize that all we are really doing in this world is playing a gigantic game with our lives.”
