“yes! the noodle shop on 187th is awesome! i was just in the area today--i should have taken pictures and posted them. morris park is another great italian area (~2mi east), and i recommend ann claire's salumeria.”

“I'd use Ubuntu if there were actually decent available for Ubuntu.”

“Ubuntu is nice for certain things, windows for other things. Some people may argue that macs are also nice for certain things. In my opinion, macs are great for people that don't know much about computers (young kids, older people, etc).
Your not going to get by using only ubuntu (most likely).”
“manhattan is cool and everything, but i prefer living in the bronx. there are still all of the conveniences of the big city, but it's a lot less crowded and WAYYY cheaper. btw, i have a room for rent in my 2 bedroom apt...”
“I agree with another post: boarding is not the problem, it is deplaning that can be more annoying (like when you are in row 42 and you have a connecting flight in 10 minutes). As we can extrapolate from the above model, a "front-to-back" deplane method is not likely to be the most efficient.
...flying is such a luxury. The complaining public should stop and think about how quickly they travel on a plane compared to, say, walking. That is humbling.”

“Flying was a luxury 60 years ago. Driving a car is a luxury as well using your logic.”
“ok, so instead of talking about nothing, what can i do to prepare for the storm? i have 2 gallons of water, several military MREs and other nonperishable foods, batteries, flashlight, radio, cat food, cat, cat toys, what else am i missing?

“Go ahead and fill up your bath tub full of fresh water before the storm.”
knightie2008 on Aug 25, 2011 at 21:02:48
“With water, we usually fill up the bathtub full of water (if you have a bath to do this with), that way you have potable water (for things like the toilet, etc). Also, if you have or can get 5 gal buckets you can use those too. Drinking water is the most important and non-cook, non-perishable foods. Leave the bucketed water in the bathroom for that use.”

“I have a crank radio/flashlight. I think it does cell phones to but nothing goes with my old phone. You cannot have enough water. Get a lot more, you could be without electricity for days.
In case plumbing goes, get trash bags, put over the toilet, go in that and toss.
If your electric is out but can get wi-fi, use this link for news reports. It has all cable news channels and the weather channel.
Pass this link along. What is nice is most of the channels have chat rooms.”

“matches, lighters, more water,. In my case I needed to cook on a grill for 5 days. so charcoal, ice, portable grill. extra cat litter? Tape. candles.”
Bryn Collins on Aug 25, 2011 at 20:35:13
“Masking tape in cris-cross pattern so if the windows break, they won't shatter into your apt. 5 gallons of water would be better. Be ready with blankets and a safe place if the windows do break. Have a cat carrier ready (and good luck with that!). You can always evacuate to the hallway. Playing cards and a fully charged iPod.”
“i wanted to lose weight because i hated the way i looked. i lost weight (now have a BMI of 23) and finally fit into my pants. the process of hard work and looking good made me more confident than ever before.
there were some added benefits: i established a great exercise program and i discovered how wonderful healthy foods can make you feel.
...but the motivator was wanting to change how i look. and once i achieved that--through very hard work--it made me so much happier than when i was obese. the added metabolic and psychological benefits, though wonderful, were completely secondary. thus, i think changing body image is a potent motivator for weight loss in the obese pediatric and adult populations and books like this one may indeed be perfectly be appropriate.”

“Exactly- everyone keeps talking about societal pressures as if the sole appropriate response is to develop an eating disorder. That's just ONE WAY that people can to deal with it. They could also use it as motivation to begin exercising and eating healthy, as you did.
The desire to fit in will kick in before the desire to be healthy for it's own sake does, that can be a good thing, because it can deter disease down the line.”
