“Sigh. Do we need further delusion of what Journalism means? And really, what does conservative journalism mean? How can FACTS be conservative or liberal unless you are talking about sharing facts only from one side. Then is that not what Faux News is for? Will they pledge to some kind of journalistic oath, "You're entitled to your own opinion, but not to your own facts"?”

“I am one of those people who have been captured by her videos. They are well-produced, looking and sounding fantastic. She is, to put it simply, dreamy. At least in the videos. I was so happy to find another artist whose vocal style that hits my spot. Then I saw the SNL episode last night. I'm going to say it's partly because of nerves. Her singing performance aside, her entire mannerism screamed "I am not used to this pressure and I don't know where to put my hands". Yes I cringed but it's because I felt bad for her. I wanted her to do well. After the two songs I wonder whether she should have simply started the trend in the US a la the Japanese virtual pop star Hatsune Miku: a synthesized presence that, understood by all partaking in it to be "artificial", yet fulfills something the audience yearns for that is not achievable in real life. (No flaming please. Simply musing out loud here)”

(It has its own wikipedia page) Price ranges from 7000 to 150K. Yup. Some custom made ones can be even more expensive. Victoria Beckham reportedly has more than 100 Birkin bags, est. worth of $1.5 million. With some of them over 100K.

“"Just because a lot of us can have babies, doesn't mean we should; it also doesn't mean we should feel like we should. To suggest otherwise is to teach young girls a pernicious lesson: yes, you can have a career, but it's even more rewarding to have a baby. Which often translates to, you can have a career or a baby." Amen to that. The death to your career is named the mommy track no matter how many "Have it all" women they trudged out in magazines (to increase sales by selling a pipe dream).

It is a well-argued, well-written piece. Why is this post in HuffPo Comedy?”

Pete Hoekstra Ad Draws More Criticism, Called 'Really, Really Dumb'

Commented Feb 8, 2012 at 02:11:17 in Politics

“Could it be because you are not aware of the history of racial stereotyping and the harm it has done to the people of Asian descent in the US? The prejudice and abuse of Chinese laborers in the West in the 19th century? The internment of US citizens of Japanese descent during WWII? The fear mongering towards all people of Asian descent (because "we all look alike") during the Vietnam War? The slew of movies depicting Asian women as bar girls, prostitutes (even with a heart of gold, still prostitutes), Madame Butterfly willing to sacrifice for a white man, lotus blossoms that need to be rescued from her own people by a (white) knight in shining armor, Dragon Lady like Tokyo Rose that cannot be trusted. The hurt of being told to "go back where you came from" when THIS here is where you came from?”

Unlicensed Dremel on Feb 9, 2012 at 00:09:28

“You just got owned, Silsm and all the others fabricating alleged rascism out of thin air. What does past ACTUAL rascism in the USA have to do with an ad about a foreign country that is an economic rival of ours, of all backgrounds and ethnicities? Game, set, and match to Ling Long and against idgit leftists. Let's talk about *issues*, not play the race card - leftists always play the race card for some reason. I'm quite sure Ling Long is well aware of all that actual rascism. There's just no nexus or connection whatsover between all that and this ad, which attempts to realistically portray a foreigner, who would speak with an accent (albeit yes poorly acted by an American actor). Do you get it - it's about another COUNTRY, not a race or ethnicity of a segment of AMERICANS.”

Pete Hoekstra Ad Draws More Criticism, Called 'Really, Really Dumb'

Commented Feb 6, 2012 at 13:09:59 in Politics

“I think the well-intentioned criticism of this ad is missing the target. The target is not the woman speaks with an accent. Most speakers of a foreign language speak with an accent, differing in degrees. There is NO shame in speaking English with an accent. What really alarms (enrages) me is the resurrection, so blatantly, the stereotype of women of Asian descent as treacherous a la "Dragon Lady". Along with that, the ads brings back the whole sleuth of racist stereotypical characters, such as FU Manchu since he has to be behind Dragon Lady who does his bidding. Thank you actually to PeteIDontGotNoClue for reminding and making it clear to me that stereotypes die hard.”

reading2009 on Feb 6, 2012 at 13:16:34

“The woman in the ad speaks English fine...aside from the poor grammar, which is no doubt in the script. I imagine that young woman is an American, probably even born here.”
