We elected officials on the assumption that they would work at fulfilling their promises. Obama's FULL TIME GOVERNMENT PAID JOB is to be our President, to set the course, lay out the strategy and framework for everything he promised during his campaign. We elect and pay representatives to do the same. Unlike you, I have a full time job, and I am a full time mother. I also volunteer whatever "free" time I have at my childrens schools. I do not have the time nor the inclination to become a community organizer. I did not run for office, but voted for people who claimed to have the same or similar ideologies to mine. Is it too much to ask them to do their job?

So to sum up your post, if we want to see any change, WE have to make the changes ourselves. So what do we have representatives for??”

They keep saying "Wait" or "Don't move so fast on this issue". That's why nothing has been done since the 1960's.
If they took the same attitude toward these wars, (remember, they can't tell a "terrorist" from a "peaceful local") we might put a numerical name on the wars...lik­e the 15 Year War, or the "30 Year (oops, that's been taken).

“That is interesting. Republicans are criticized for not promoting a certain volume of minority candidates, but when they do promote them, they are criticized for it. Do you want more minority candidates or not?

I think the Democratic (not to say the Republicans are off the hook when they do it) party is just as bad at that. Rather than pick candidates based on their ideological and political beliefs, in many cases they pick them based on minority status. They openly admit they do this in certain districts. Then they tout their minority candidates as promotional merit badges (we are so tolerant, we have x minorities!) rather than treat them like people who are valued for their ideas. Perhaps the parties should represent consistent values and select the best candidates (regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ect) to represent them.

Both parties exploit people, the question is, do they do so because they like being eeeeevilll? Or do they do so because society responds to it and thats how you acquire electoral victories?”
