Vaccination: A Conversation Worth Having

Commented Nov 22, 2009 at 15:58:05 in Living

“Michael Shermer wrote me an open letter and felt I needed to be told that "vaccinations work by tricking the body's immune system into thinking that it has already had the disease for which the vaccination was given." Thanks, Doc, I thought there might be a little man inside the needle. Yes, I read Microbe Hunters when I was eight, I have a basic idea how vaccines work.

.............

What is with corporate shills these days attempting to debunk people by lecturing them about things they already know, yet using long words they think people will be too dumb to understand. Or, maybe it's an attempt to intellectually intimidate the person by showing how educated they are. Whatever the case, thank you for mocking Shermer's lame rebuttal, Bill.”

Sheldon101 replied on Nov 22, 2009 at 17:03:36

“1. Many people don't know how vaccines work. So they don't understand that vaccination is the most natural way of preventing infection possible. With anti-vaxers it's always hard to know where their ignorance begins.

2. Calling Mr. Shermer a 'corporate shill' is an ad hominem attack on him. It is also laughable when applied to him.

Flu Vaccination: Safe, effective. logical and the right thing to do.”

“I'm usually too drunk to have anything but slow sex. I had neighbors in an apartment that never had slow sex, once. Unless they just weren't making as much noise when having slow sex. They did it every day and it sounded like a porno. There were a preppy, middle class couple, too. Not like they were bikers. I assumed that's just where it's at these days.”

“BTW, the people in the photo that link to this article from the front page are not women. They're girls. Adolescent girls. Kind of insulting to women to have to be shown a picture of a bunch of fully blossomed sorority girls, in the prime of their physical lives and laughing at basically the entire world for not being as hot as they are, and to be held to that standard. I guess one way women can be happy is to know that one day those giddy girls will be suffering just like they are. Let's drink to that, shall we, ladies?”

Kalarchis replied on Sep 24, 2009 at 01:43:06

“Held to what standard? The only one holding you to such a standard is yourself. You're illustrating part of the problem here; you let yourself get worked up over something as trivial as a picture of smiling young women. What does it matter? It's just a picture. There are always going to be a thousand young people sexier than we will ever be. We can't change that and the sooner you stop letting it bother you the happier you'll be.

You create insult where there is none.”

Secrets to Lasting Intimacy: Ancient Tantric Wisdom Transforms Modern Love

Commented Aug 13, 2009 at 19:55:55 in Living

“Why do these articles on new age, tantric sex or whatever always show a good looking, young couple? Young couples just jump in the sack and do it. All of this holistic type of sex is for aging wrinklies trying to make sex enjoyable again. Maybe they're showing the picture of young people because a picture of old people would make people yak? On second thought, good idea, Huffpo. We see enough of the old people prancing around in the viva viagra ads. No more. It's torture. Old people are ugly! If you're over 30, put some clothes on. Stop pretending you're an exception to the rule. You're not. You're old, wrinkly and disgusting. Just deal with it and work on being a good person instead.”

Elsbeth Meuth replied on Aug 22, 2009 at 11:51:51

“Thanks, SNS, for bringing this up. I have had the same thought about the choice of photos HuffPost uses for the blogs on Tantra, sexual awareness, spiritual sex, etc. I will contact them and see how they could diversify the images to express the diversity of ways of expressing one's sexual/spiritual being.
Thanks for bringing this to our awareness, Elsbeth”

“It's been awhile since I or my mate saw 30. It appears to me that SNS thinks that beauty is something you see on a magazine cover, that wrinkles are something that detract from someone's character. With time, you may learn better.... or maybe not - you may remain a 15 year old the rest of your life. Good luck with that.”

“Uh, in case you forgot, Obama is the first black president ever and even though it doesn't matter to you, it matters to most black people. The comparison JD is making regards the progress of black people. MJ in the entertainment scene, Obama in the political scene. I know you only voted for Obama for his green agenda or whatever but race does matter to a lot of minorities in this country because they face racism from whites, not you, but many other whites, every day.”

Lhommecouture replied on Jul 04, 2009 at 06:42:09

“This isn't a race issue. There is no need to be snarky as I was defending Barack Obama, not dismissing historical racism.

It seemed as if the blogger was demeaning President Obama to praise Michael Jackson. It wasn't necessary to mention President Obama in the way he did. That was what I intended to insinuate.”

“Keli, you're a hottie and I'd bee line to you if I saw you in a bar. That being said, we're talking about discrimination here. And, a lot of your tone reminds me of the tone that Bush critics used up until '06, that careful, "We're not helping ourselves by doing this or that", panting. I think the real problem is Perez Hilton himself. The guy's just not charismatic, and in the public realm when you put him up against a freakin' Miss USA candidate, it's going to be a short match. That's really what happened here. But when the smoke settles, and I don't believe it has yet, the anti gay marriage crowd's' going to come out of it complete hypocrites, while Perez Hilton pretty much comes out of it irrelevant. The sooner he disappears, the better. Not only because he comes off rather unlikeable, but also because this small battle in the war has been won. His grenade made a mess and there were casualties on both sides, but he hit the target; the christian right.”

“Perhaps you missed it, but I clearly made the distinction as to when gangs became as violent as they are today. It started in the '80s, when they took over the crack trade in American ghettos. Before crack, gangs in America were fighting with brass knuckles and bats. Sure, they were violent. But not nearly as violent as they became when the crack trade gave them the affordability to buy automatic weapons, which, interestingly enough, also hit the streets of American ghettos around the same time as the crack.”

“In response to the comments blaming welfare for gang violence. Welfare has been around for how long now? Gang violence as we know it, with the startling murder rates, started in the late '80s. This is around the same time that gangs took over the crack trade. The idea that welfare spawned modern day gang violence just loses its baring when faced with this fact. The elephant in the room is drugs, the enforcement thereof, and the subsequent black market its created.

Baron Davis, thank you so much for your work. I have the DVD advanced ordered. You and Stacy Peralta working together? I still have my Powell- Peralta skateboard somewhere at my mom's. LOL. Best of luck, Baron. Keep fighting the good fight.”

“The country's not getting any whiter, and white racists know it. I think racial slurs today are sort of the last chance power drive of the white man's world. They're really like the violins playing on the titanic. We have a liberal black president with a name that sounds like the names of those who attacked us on 9/11. America will survive, but the white man's world is gone. The sooner the Clint Eastwoods of America wrap their brains around it, the better it will be for them. If not, we'll enjoy laughing at their tirades”

No, Gay Soldiers Won't Be Allowed to Cross-dress While on Duty

Commented Mar 18, 2009 at 18:21:56 in Politics

“HBO Real Sports did a segment on a gay rugby player from San Fran who was on UA 93 on 9/11. They showed highlights of this guy just thrashing straight rugby players. I mean just flipping them into the air and tossing them around. No doubt he was probably doing most of the scrapping on that flight when they took down the terrorists. Guy was one tough son of a gun. But, you don't hear about him. Just Todd Beamer. There are gay athletes, gay cops, gay soldiers. But they can't admit to being so without facing serious harassment. Guess they'll just have to continue winning games, protecting and serving, and fighting for our country while keeping their personal lives a secret. It's unfortunate we just can't get over this hurdle in America.”
