“I've never watched Larry David or Bill whoever. We encourage censoring what children watch on television, but I'm just as choosy about what I put in my own brain. I don't go for the cheap laugh.
Unfortunately, the success of these shows is not a testament to their brilliance as much as to the fact that people will watch just about anything. If it's on HBO and you're paying for it, it must be highbrow, intellectual humor, right? They say it's 'critically acclaimed' programming! I'll be my own critic, thank you very much.
Who cares about the money they make? There's nothing wrong with working a decent job and having principles at $20 an hour.
When you get to a certain age in life and information is harder to retrieve, you hate to acknowledge you've clogged up the old mental storage with a lot of insignificant information and cheap laughs. I can't remember the names of the new babies in our family, but I can tell you a stupid joke I heard at work over 35 years ago. "How come witches can't have babies? 'Cause warlocks have hallow weenies!" No joke.”

“They made more money on this one show than you'll probably make all year by not being funny then.
So the next issue is: if you don't even have to be funny to make a year's salary in a day, why don't you become a TV comedian?”

Hate Crimes Bill Approved By Congress, Extends Protection To Gays
Commented Oct 22, 2009 at 22:11:00 in Politics
“Honest and open? Have you met any politician?
Your point is undercut by the fact that to make this ammendment -- it had to voted by into the bill. That vote was in July. It was 63 to 28 (9 absent). The final vote on the whole bill was very similar: 68 to 29 (3 absent). Exactly 5 GOP (0 Dems) Senators voted for the whole bill that did not vote for the seperate ammendment -- there votes wouldn't have mattered in this case.”

“Yes I have and not one has struck me as honest yet. This is why I question the system. Day after day I see people here, in class, even in my family who say the same thing- all politicians are dishonest, cannot trust any of them. This makes me question why we aren't working to change the system if this is the way so many feel about it. I'm glad the bill got passed, but I feel it is absolutely my right to be disappointed in the way it was passed and to question why it had to be this way.”

“Of course the GOP are not instructing people on beatings, but they are not discouraging them either, and the continual vilification of gay people by GOP pols like Foxx, Bachmann, Boehner, etc. fosters an enviroment where this is more acceptable. You can't see that? Amazing. When it happens to one of your "gay friends" you might rethink it.”

“There is no question about the homophobic motive in the Matthew Shepard case -- check your facts via trial testimony and record. As a gay man who has been accosted I can tell you it is more important to me to know this than to you. Even aside from Shepard gay men and women, like Price, are beaten and murdered everyday, yet you seem to want to condone it quibble over it. I hope no one mistakes you for a lesbian anytime soon Allie -- you never know what they might do.
The video of beating is right here on this story and yet you quibble with it and deny it.
I can give you a list of the GOP people that supported Foxx and that voted against the Sheppard bill, and that have called gay people disparaging names -- it's as long as your arm.”

Father Calls Insurance Company's Decision To Drop Son's Coverage "Attempted Murder"

“Your reading of the tragic Schiavo case would take away the choice and duty of family members to follow the wishes of loved ones. My mother had a stroke last year and as she was essentially brain dead it was up to my father, my brothers, and me to decide whether to take her off life support. It was a horrible decision to make -- esp since the stroke could have been mitigated if the hospital personel had been paying attention to her at the time, they left her withour oxygen for 10 minutes -- we explored every option, but when it was apparent her condition would not change my dad said "She wouldn't want to be like that" and he was right -- though two of my brothers disagreed. Ultimately it was his decision as her husband and, though he was heartbroken, he made it because that's what she would want and so he and we had to do it. Every family is different and each should have it's wishes and decisions respected.”
