5 Reasons I Can't Wait to Get Married

5 Reasons I Can't Wait to Get Married

“I agree it probably isnt his intention to refer to his wife as property, and I flagged that in my initial comment. What I meant is that regardless of intentions, language people use can still reflect archaic and disempowering notions of women. It's important - especially if you reject these gendered stereotypes - to check the language you use (here, when describing his relationship or marriage dynamic). I was immediately put off by the use of "staking your claim", which to me, reeks of his (male) conquest (a word he also used), ownership and dominance over his female partner. Do you see what Im saying?”

“Everything here except "The Wedding" can happen without marriage, but regardless: "Staking your claim"?!?! "Securing your gal"?!?! Is your partner a piece of property? With language like that it sure seems like it. Girls are not objects and cannot be claimed. Language, man. Check that shit!”

“Personally I don't believe he means it like she is his property. It is along the lines of I AM MY HUSBANDS WIFE, I am HIS spouse, I am HIS lover. Does all those titles or just saying I am HIS makes me his property? Not property, but I am HIS. I am not married to anyone else. I happen to love it when he calls me HIS LOVER :) .”

“What a crazy comment. You're crazy, Ann Kaley. What an abstraction! And what a racist thing to say.”
