Commented Mar 27, 2014 at 11:19:51 in World

“The Spanish right-wing government is resorting to secret votes to push its anti-abortion agenda through despite more than 70% of Spaniards wanting to continue with the current more liberal laws. Women's rights are once again under attack. My body, my choice.”

antfern on Mar 27, 2014 at 11:53:47

“Anti abortion law in Spain is good because its not restrictive to the case of rape, incest and the life of the mother and its also good so the people will practice safe sex. It will be bad if they also banned birth control pills and other contraceptions.”

U.S. Income Inequality Worse Than Many Latin American Countries

Commented Feb 8, 2013 at 12:01:33 in Latino Voices

“As illegal aliens are not recorded, they will not be part of the statistics on income inequality. Beware what you wish for. A huge number of businesses survive on their use of illegal and low cost labour in the US. Thus it's not in their interest to repatriate illegals. The black economy exploits these workers.”

dumplingpoo on Feb 9, 2013 at 00:52:05

“They're recorded. No employer is required to use e-verify to verify citizenship and fraudulant documents are easy to obtain. The economic and social costs of the illegals far outweigh any benefits to specific employers.”

Gun Control Poll Finds Broad, Even Bipartisan, Support For Some Limits

Commented Jan 14, 2013 at 20:09:50 in Politics

“The momentum is clearly shifting towards many aspects of greater gun control. Finally there seems to be a bi-partisan will to introduce legislation that will provide for a better regulated environment. But the struggle is far from over. There will be an inevitable backlash from the NRA. We wait to see what it is. Caution is the watchword. Keep the momentum moving forward!”

NRA Lobbying Targets Obama Judicial Nominees

Commented Jan 9, 2013 at 12:46:38 in Politics

“What a surprise. Not. The NRA clearly demonstrates its pernicious influence in opposing proposed members of the judiciary. And punishes, even GOP politicos, those who oppose its views. Not so much the tail wagging the dog, more like a flea making a nuisance of itself. Significantly many of the high profile candidates for the judiciary are women, Sotomayor, Kagan, Cadish and Halligan. These are the very judges the country needs to stand up to this crypto fascism. The NRA does not speak for the people but increasingly for a narrow self-interested group that has taken over this organisation. Time to apply the flea powder.”

Arizona Immigration Law Costing The State Millions Every Year: Report

Commented Jan 3, 2013 at 20:38:25 in Business

“The US should be proud of its status as a nation founded on immigration. But the racism inherent in Arizona's law now is a throwback to the East Coast rooming houses that had "No Irish, no Jews" signs on them for years. Racial stereotyping and profiling is unconstitutional, FBI, State and local police take note.”

“Governor Christie so right in his condemnation of the Republicans in the House for their failure to support the relief programme required in New Jersey and New York. This do nothing group of miscreants are certainly not fit for purpose. They are holding up the nation from getting what it needs to move forward. They should be thrown out of office wholesale when it comes to the next elections.”

House GOP Lets Violence Against Women Act Passed By Senate Die Without A Vote

Commented Jan 3, 2013 at 00:19:04 in Politics

“Classic GOP fail once more. The old, white, male, GOP dominated Congress fails to support the Violence Against Women Act. It is high time there was gender equalisation in US politics. Even countries such as Nicaragua have brought in 50% candidate legislation. The US slips further behind while protecting its political dinosaurs.”

Rather than deal with the fact that you tried and failed with deflection you now offer unprovable speculation as proof of a "flaw" in my orginal point regarding firearm homicides.”

“Of course. Sadly there were many other implements used in the many homicides across the land. What doesn't seem to be realised is that the psychology of guns is different. They remove emotion from the kill by their distance. An alienation effect. Pulling a trigger at distance is not the same as a hand-to-hand encounter. It engenders an irresponsibility that even the NRA cannot control.”

jetjocki on Jan 1, 2013 at 23:00:41

“"Pulling a trigger at distance is not the same as a hand-to-hand encounter."

Your first mistake is the assumption that shootings happen at distance. The vast majority do not as they they are very "up close and personal". Most firearm homicides occur at distances of 6 feet or less, with a significant percentage at ranges of 1 foot or less.”

“Once again we are faced with gun violence in the US on the first day of the new year which is unnecessary in a civilised society. A sad comment on a nation enchained by its knee-jerk obeisance to a constitution laid down in an entirely different era. The second amendment is not fit for purpose now.”

thorrsman on Jan 1, 2013 at 19:41:15

“Not "gun violence". Guns are just tools. They do not commit violence.

This was violence, plain and simple. You should note that the OTHER incidents that did not involve guns--except for one slip--are not included.

Or do you think that no one was stabbed, beaten or strangled to dead last night?”
