Obama One Year Later: The Audacity of Winning vs. The Timidity of Governing
Commented Nov 03, 2009 at 06:25:28 in Politics
“I recall that Obama didn't win on his own. He won because We The People worked hard to get him elected. How many of his supporters are working just as hard to get his initiatives passed? It seems that many of us (myself included) have kind of sat back and said "he's president now, so he can do everything else". But, folks he can't. We have to work like we did on the campaign to help him get his agenda in place. Those righties are more organized, like it or not. THEY are the ones getting there message on the tube, WE have to do more, not just point fingers at him saying he let us down.”

One thing though is her manly, harsh voice. Wish she could tone it down a bit. Other than that, she is a beautiful, georgeous very intelligent woman. And her husband worked for the Obama campaign. YES!”

“Your statement itself is racially insensitive. It really bothers me as a black woman when people tell me to "get over" slavery. Have you not noticed that unprovoked attacks against minorities are VERY prevalent today, still? It's not because we can't "get over" slavery. It's because people like yourself, do not respect my culture and our contributions to this very country. Its easy to be in the majority and tell someone to "assimilate" . But, understand when you tell someone that you are directing them to deny who they are. Because whose standard should we "assimilate" to?
You should care about my culture, because without it, America would be a skeleton of itself as it stands today. If my culture didn't exist, frankly, the US would not be what it is today. Understand, that my history was taken from me. Most white people can easily trace their family history back to whatever European country they originated from. Most black people can not. There is an emptiness in that, that you can never understand. Like a plant without roots. So we hold on to what we have built here because our deep history is gone. Slavery's shadow still looms over us today. People who would argue with you about how un-racist they are, say some of the most racially insensitive things (such as yourself), not because they really think badly about black people, but because they really don't know black people.”

“I understand where you are coming from. I truly do. And please note that I'm not the enemy.
That said, please atleast acknowlede this. You were never a slave. Your parents were never slaves. Your great grandparents were never slaves. And more than likely, your great great grandparents were never slaves. I'm not saying that they didn't endure hardships. I'm 100% sure that they did. But it's time to get over slavery.
I say this because I never owned a slave. Neither did my parents or grandparents, or great grandparents, or great great grandparents. Beyond that who knows, I've never even seen a picture of a relative past that, nor do I know any of their names.
You talk about not having roots. And that racially insensitive people (such as myself according to you) don't know black people. You should know this. Most white people don't care about their history or roots. They know that what matters most is "now" and "today". What happened in the past is just that... in the past.
You might consider my comments to be racially insensitive. I can live with that. Because I know that the reason I say them is so we can move forward as a nation united.”

“One thing that pleases me about being a teacher in an urban environment is that I can wear my hair however I choose (in my case Locks - I don't like calling them dreadlocks because my hair is NOT dreadful). Going natural was a process for me and I'm happy I have the luxury to have done so. Unfortunately many of my sisters in the hair struggle can't afford to do so. Maybe one day, this won't be the case and black women can wear their hair as natural as our caucasian, asian, latina, etc. sisters.”
I Booed Bush
Commented Jan 24, 2009 at 10:58:13 in Politics
“Many folks say that booing was bad because is shows lack of respect for the office. But Bush didn't show respect for the office or the American people. So I booed HIM not the presidency. I booed him because of his lack of respect for his own office and the American people. BOOOOOO and good riddance!”

“When I am watching a football game and the same wide receiver has dropped 5 catchable balls I might boo him on the 6th. I am not "disrespecting the office of the wide receiver", I am saying "HEY, PAY ATTENTION YOU, WE NOTICE YOU ARE DOING A BAD JOB AND LETTING EVERYONE DOWN!"
I do it in hopes that either the player will focus more and catch the next one, the coach will replace him for the whole game or, if the player doesn't improve, he will be permanently replaced.
Too bad we can't release a president before his contract is up.”

Michelle Obama's Dress: In Defense Of Her Decision
Commented Nov 07, 2008 at 00:17:42 in Style
“People, calm down. Every "stylish" person gets it wrong every now and again. Some of you folks are acting like she's lost all her fashion sense, my goodness. I'm neutral about the dress. I think the cardigan took away from it. It blocked the light coming from her back so you couldn't see her figure as well. Plus when she shows her arms that's always a plus. That notwithstanding, she'll be alright people. I'm sure most of the folks passing judgement wouldn't do a fraction as well in their fashion choices on the world stage.”

“It seems to me that she's given her girls a fantastic model of a modern woman. BTW her mother takes care of the girls. From the looks of it, those two young ladies are highly intelligent, focused, respectful, and energetic. They are lovely children.
Your saying you "have no problem" rings hollow because of the mere fact that you asked the question. There is a tinge of falseness in your assertion. We in America do much that we don't "need" to do but what we WANT to do. She obviously got educated for a reason, and is passing that down to her daughters.
What you must understand that to get an education as an African American woman is a top goal. For generations most of us did not have the luxury of being stay at home moms. Black women had to go take care of other people's kids then go home and take care of her own. It is obvious that you didn't realize that Michelle's mom was not stay at home. She worked as a secretary. So she is following in the steps of her mom and going one better. Maybe you should follow up on her story a little better before you cast judgement.”

It's too bad. I mean even if you don't like her, at least get some information so you can have an informed opinion and not one that someone has bestowed upon you through their own biased eyes. “It's what I call the Willie Lynch syndrome or crabs in a barrel that unfortunately to us African-Americans is a residue mentality from slavery. I personally think that they use these black conservatives as an attempt to legitimize the weak argument of the right. It seems to say "look even some black people don't agree, it must be wrong. Cause we all know that the blacks love Obama". Also it's their sorry attempt to attract more black people to the GOP (very misguided). What they fail to realize is that BECAUSE so many black people support Obama that these black pundits have even less legitimacy. In the Black community people such as this are seen as "Uncle Toms". You can ask the great majority of black people...no one wants to be an "Uncle Tom".”
