The Nation's Most Ambitious Recycling Law
Commented Jun 23, 2009 at 13:07:05 in Green
“Thank goodness! So will my apartment building on Turk and Leavenworth be forced to have compost bins in it, too? They took away our recycling bins after they deemed them to be a nuisance!”
Obama Blitzes Nevada
Commented Nov 03, 2008 at 01:28:23 in Home
“I grew up in Nevada and have realized something about it: Nevada always sides with the winner. In the last 100 years, only ONCE has Nevada not sided with the election's winner: in 1976 they voted for Ford. Watch who Nevada picks as president and I assure you he will be the winner.”

“Why do you think drug users commit break-ins? Isn't it to finance their habit which is made expensive by the illegality of it? Do you honestly believe that people who do not use drugs never commit break-ins?
I live in the SF Tenderloin ad every day I pass "massage" parlors where women are known to have been trafficked from foreign lands and are kept as sex slaves. If we decriminalize the prostitution itself, we can root out the pimps and madams and gain access to their victims so that they may be released from their shackles and treated - both medically and as human beings. Please do some research on the topic of sex slavery in San Francisco.”

“Why not campaign instead? There are strong logical reasons to believe that campaigning works.”
This Week in Magazines: Dirty Elections Edition
Commented Oct 19, 2008 at 17:12:24 in Media
“While it's true that our elections are not the dirtiest on earth, nor this one even the dirtiest this nation has seen, we oughtn't stop being angry with the filth we are seeing from presidential campaigns. Just because some kids are not fortunate enough to be going to school in poor countries, does that mean we should stop trying to improve schools here? Certainly now.”

“I completely agree with the hypocrisy of the McCain-Palin campaign on this matter, not to mention the hype and exaggeration. However, I don't particularly see as wanting one's state to be independent of the nation as a particularly bad thing to begin with. If California were separate, we'd be much better off. =( But then, I'm too lazy to do anything about it.”

Arianna Spars With Chuck Norris On "Larry King" (VIDEO)
Commented Sep 11, 2008 at 03:02:08 in Media
“Tsk, tsk... It seems that The Chuck hasn't been reading. The troops are giving more money to the Obama campaign than they have to his competitor. What does the enormous expense of this war have to do with the number of pages in the tax code? The issue raised was where the money was going, not whether Ms. Huffington has a well-paid accountant.

The Elitist Tipping Point

“That's a very good point, but still voting for somebody who doesn't know how many houses s/he owns just leaves a bad taste in people's mouths.”

“Don't forget that Nevada all but once (1976) in most of living memory has voted for the winner. I'd stick Nevada on whichever side the winner belongs.”

“SaraPulis -
That's interesting. Other states make similar claims to being a "bellweather" state too, though. Most prominently (in the media at any rate), I've heard Missouri and Ohio make similar claims.
From where I sit, all three are going to be close this year.

Jon Stewart Skewers Obama on Public Financing
Commented Jun 25, 2008 at 03:02:36 in Politics
“Quite right, but I didn't see any outright lies. Maybe he has a mistaken opinion from time to time; maybe he's prone to being swept up with the current, too. Few aren't. Though I am myself an ardent (that is contributing and volunteering) Obama supporter, I also was heavily under the impression that he was ethically inclined to use public financing. (Maybe I'm a hypocrite to be glad to see that he shall not be using it, too.) Surely Stewart, his writers, and I are not the only ones upon whom that impression was made.”
Jon Stewart Skewers Obama on Public Financing
Commented Jun 25, 2008 at 02:29:41 in Politics
“I don't think that Jon Stewart should be anybody's toady. If he thinks it's hypocritical that Senator Obama spoke glowingly of public financing only to eschew it later, that's his right. Stewart isn't on the air in order to help elect Democrats.”

“I agree that the in vitro gimmick is an excellent idea, but I wonder how it would address human wants for cow milk and chicken eggs. I wonder if we can find a way to replicate those so that calves won't be shot, nor their mothers confined and chickens confined ("cage free" and "free range" are neither standardized nor enforced) and later ground up for dog food. Of course, I'm not trying to discount the great good that this science may one day do, but still one wonders...”
Polyamory: The New Monogamy?
Commented May 05, 2008 at 01:30:04 in Living
“Actually polygamy doesn't specifically mean one man with many wives, it just means being married to more than one person, regardless of gender. Polyandry is multiple husbands and polygyny is more than one wife.”
On My Switch From Clinton to Obama
Commented May 01, 2008 at 20:50:11 in Politics
“I think that Castlerider may be referring to how Ms. Clinton's campaign handled the "bitter" remarks as opposed to her actually making them. For sooth, the wording is a bit strange.”
