“I can't believe that even an out-of-state school isn't offering him a scholarship. It says something about our country when a student works incredibly hard and earns excellent grades cannot gain access to a college education. I think this story deserves a piece of investigative journalism as to what is taking place in the college admissions offices across the country.”
“People are growing tired of paying for the reckless financial mishandling of the economy by the banks, politicians and the 1%. The fact that both in the US and across Europe, average people who did not cause the economic collapse, were vilified by Wall Street who orchestrated the austerity measures that further crippled the economy. Meanwhile, it is these same bankers that rewarded themselves with bonuses. Politicians are too inept to do what is right because they are controlled by the 1%. It is the corrupt politicians and the wealthy that are forcing people to vote for extremists as the moderates and the wealthy are content to maintain the status quo. Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.”
“Saw a segment on Vice last night discussing PTSD and it was unbelievable the amount of pharmaceuticals that are handed out to our veterans, like it was candy, with no oversight. This was so typical of our government, rather than deal with a real problem it would rather ignore, deny, mollify, or condemn the innocent. The war hawks love wearing the little flag pin that is nothing more than false bravado, but to actually pay for that war and care for its veterans, well that's too responsible. Both parties are guilty.”

“That happens everywhere, not just at the VA”

“Sorry, but they are not equally to blame. THAT is one of the problems. You enable GOP behavior when you talk like that.”

“This is typical of a government run system. I had a friend who had an accident in NewZealand while living there. The surgery for his back was too expensive, and the wait
It's too long. They put him on pills . By the time he got to the US. His back was now to scared for surgery and he is addicted to pills.
Government run healthcare, can't treat, dull the pain.”
“People just might come to their senses when they see the effects of climate change impacting their own lives. At some point the country will grow tired of having to shoulder the cost of those who wish to live in areas of repeated droughts, fires, hurricanes, tornadoes and flooding. At some point, companies will find that it is no longer cost effective to keep refurbishing their facilities after being damaged by repeated destructive storms. The biggest problem is that those with the financial means will look to create their own safe haven but it will be the vast majority, the 90%, who will have to contend with dwindling resources, rising food costs, deteriorating infrastructure and an increase in diseases. The military realizes what is happening as well as most of the major insurance companies.
This country could take the lead and become the innovators for alternative energy technology and take a proactive stance, but just like everything else, the powers that be would rather see those jobs go overseas.”
“Funny how law enforcement, Wall Street, politicians and pundits were quick to shut down the Occupy Wall Street movement rather aggressively, but no one cared to disrupt the many Tea Party demonstrations, even when they showed up with guns.”
AverageWhiteMan on May 19, 2014 at 18:32:31
“why would a group legally carrying firearms need to be disrupted ?”

“What? Where do you get " were quick to shut down the Occupy Wall Street movement rather aggressively..." They took over the park on September 17, 2011 and the police didn't start clearing the park until November 15, 2011. Then there were constant attempts to reoccupy the park thru January of 2012. I don't think months and months of this qualifies as "quick to shut down the Occupy Wall Street movement."
The small businesses surrounding the area lost customers and were damaged by the protestors. The park suffered millions in damage. There were robberies, fights, rapes and other crimes connected to the protest camps. It did nothing to hurt Wall Street but did a lot of damage to small businesses as well as their trashing and destruction of the area cost taxpayers millions of dollars.
The Tea Party rallies usually last one day or one weekend and they always leave the area cleaner than before they arrived.”

“How much civil disobedience did you witness in Tea Party protests?”
“Maybe you're having kids at a young age because you're not busy getting an education or building a career. I think it's called living on easy street and not using contraceptives. Has nothing to with the genes.”
“Another example where there those religions and or cultural customs that see women as being evil and their sexuality as a threat to men's pursuit of Godliness and control. Until religions seriously take responsibility to teach men about being responsible for their own thoughts and actions and stop blaming women for the 'impure thoughts' that men have, then nothing will change. Most religions rely heavily on making a scapegoat out of one or more groups of people for the sole purpose of power and control.”
“These people have no souls or hearts as they are comprised of greed, hate and destruction. They have no compassion for their fellow human or respect for nature. They feel entitled to take whatever they want, use the earth's resources to their own selfish ends and discard people at will. These people would be comfortable in the company of some of the worse people to have walked the earth.”
“The fact that she was described as being "pushy" for questioning why she wasn't receiving equal pay and labeled as "difficult to work with" for being a tough editor, says everything about the NYT's organization and how they view women. I have to question if the NYT's is capable of covering a potential Hillary presidency in a professional and unbiased manner.”
“I know it takes time to investigate and present a case for bringing charges against him, but if this guy were to become president, this country is done for. He is so corrupt and devious that his presidency would make Nixon look like a saint.”
“Continue to ignore the problem doesn't make the problem go away instead, the price of dealing with the negative impact of climate change will mean massive tax increases on everyone but the wealthy. After all, the Republicans will easily manipulate their followers to accept higher taxes while the wealthy receive further tax cuts and corporations make use of more tax loopholes. God forbid the wealthy pay more in taxes.”
