The 26 Percent Solution

“So true. Most of the nuts I know have at least a 4 year degree & are educators themselves. They are however, without exception, religious extremists. Every last one of them.”

“The thought of "recreational" methadone makes me shiver. It is a tricky drug, not one to toy with--not one inexperienced physicians should prescribe, let alone party animals. Although not widely appreciated it has unpredictable interactions with the benzodiazepenes (Ativan, Valium, et. al), causing OD's of both drugs.”

“I don't think he called them "illiterates" as an insult. It is a generalization based, I think, on real statistics. It is a big part of the reason nation building over there is IMO most likely doomed to fail. I don't know anything about methadone other than a friend of mine told me once, "dude, don't ever do methadone. "”
TRex86 replied on Oct 29, 2009 at 21:29:35
“No offense to your friend, but methadone is a superb medication for chronic pain. It has unique properties not shared by other opioids. I've prescribed it to little old ladies with severe osteoporosis and cancer patients. Besides its unique virtues it's cheap. Where fentanyl and oxycodone can cost thousands a month methadone is a few dollars.”

“I assure you that most Democratic politicians would also be against IRV because it would give people more options than just D or R. They would likely support the other 2 ideas though.”

Health 'Opt-Out': Brilliant Maneuver or Crippling Compromise?
Commented Oct 09, 2009 at 16:03:16 in Politics
“I think this is a good compromise. People are wrongly assuming that every red, southern state will opt out of the PO. I live in Okla. & would be surprised if my state opted out---as red as it is. People here are more socially conservative than anything. We(the state as a whole--not me personally) are more concerned with guns, gays, & god than anything else. Although we deny it, we love handouts(not to imply that a PO is a handout).”
socalgal38 replied on Oct 09, 2009 at 16:24:33
“We can only hope, but than again if the government can't get a public option without a clause for the state to opt out my guess is the state will have the pressure of the insurance companies to opt out. I just wonder how many states will end up opting out. But at least this opt out will be easier for the insurance company, isn't that what is important to those getting paid to push this plan. Just saying.”

“People will just use more synthetic drugs which are worse than natural ones in my humble opinion. I don't know anyone who does coke or heroin, but I know plenty who do meth. Here in my state of OK, every time a new law is passed to make meth harder to manufacture, cooks find a way around it that usually causes even more health & environmental issues. People want to do drugs & they will find a way. The more effective way to deal with drug ABUSE is, I think, to focus more on why people want to abuse drugs & deal with those issues.”

“I think that taxing sodas is a good idea, but to suggest that we tax people for being obese is just about as crazy as the stuff we hear from the right. In fact, your suggestion conforms exactly to how the right wing often portrays liberal ideas. You probably ought to give a little bit of thought to what you are saying before you post it on the internet.”

I usually either agree completely with the guy, or think he's the world's biggest idiot every time he posts here. I'm pretty sure he's just posting his opinion whenever he feels like it just off the top of his head. Probably a fat person was standing in front of him and he couldn't got around, got frustrated, and shot this off without realizing that there are far better ways to accomplish what he's talking about.”
