Military Contractors and Our Buck-Stops-Nowhere "Wars"

Commented Sep 05, 2009 at 12:45:58 in Politics

“There should be a tax increase or a gas tax to pay for past, present and future operations. We need at least 150k more in the Army and Marines. If we can't have a draft to do battle they can certainly to paperwork and civil deffense drill in the USA. Have a rapid deploy force that knows they are the first ones out and pay them like that so we have them all under the Uniform Military code of Justice. If there is a draft
10% of the privelage class the top 10% and the politicians kids go first. Time for people to earn their freedom not just whine about it over healthcare and climate change. Leaving Afghanistan with out Osama Bin Laden is failure he and his organization is the enemy but some how Bush, the Oil industry and the usual amount of American stupidity seem to have forgotten the guy who came into our largest city and killed 3000 people with the world watching and we haven't really done a thing about it but kill a bunch of rural Iraqi's and Afghans. Al Qaeda isn't an army that defends territory they are an Idea so lame political solution and profiteering which is what the problem is here isn't going to get rid of him. Your going to have get out out of your humvies and go in that cave and hunt them.”

“Why are so many liberals married to this public option. It was not part of the campaign and not necessarily what we voted for. If you put in the co-ops which will be government sponsored but owned by the policy holders that should be good enough. We need a pathway to success for those of us who have pre-existing conditions or whom cannot afford it or both. That is what they should be focussing on. While end of life care, living wills should be part of everyone's health care just take it out of the bill along with paying for abortions. Many people think their freedom is being taken away even though it's not. There freedom was given away in the patriot act. There is a natural resistance to having the federal government dictate even when it's actually a good idea. Fix the insurance companies loop wholes and discrimination, subsidies for those who needed figure out a way to pay for it or how to tax to do it and let's get it over with and work on implementation, execution, and cost reduction through wellness and modifying our lifestyles.”

cdub1991 replied on Aug 17, 2009 at 18:21:28

“I'm pretty sure a public plan was always part of Obama's health care strategy. Go back and take a look at the position papers. Co-ops will do nothing to put downward pricing pressure on the insurance companies and bring them into reign. That was the main point of the public plan--to introduce truly effective competition into the mix.. If anything, I'm sure the private companies will just run rings around those things and actually drive many of them out of business.

I do agree, however, that we shouldn't lose track of the rest of the program. There's still some worthy objectives being satisfied.”

“I wonder why to even bother to enter this debate I know the real reason they are on the conspiracy. But you don't have a conspiracy theory unless you can show that his mother was out of the country. But if I were going to engage in this fantasy conspiracy theory
1st did his mother have a passport
did she ever apply for a Visa for Kenya?
can anyone prove she was ever out of the country at this time?
if you can't answer those three questions then you have nothing
and why would a pregnant woman be taking a 24 hr plane flight between stops and changing planes to have her kid in Kenya or any where else?
Why would his father want him born in Kenya when it was clear he came to America for the opportunity.
what makes this so ludicrous as black man the concept of a black president is not something I thought of as a possible other than on 24 and end of the world movies. There is no way in 1961 his parents thought he could do that which is why she moved her family to Hawaii. I think after the assassination of JFK we have lost trust and engaged in conspiracy theories.”

“you can't have your cake and eat it too. Someone has to pay for it
The problem the Democrats have is they have nobody in sales on their team
stating how shameful it is to have 50 million people uninsured that doesn't work
you have to make the case to those who have it What's in it for them
they should have a 3 x 5 card with what it means if you have it, if you don't , if you been denied, public option with bullet points and send that out and give out at town halls.
two as stated Your already paying for universal care through the emergency room but your not getting universal results.
of the industrialized world while we may have the best Health systems available we are dead last in outcomes.
as a economic matter people are trapped in jobs because of the benefits- twice my mother during the 80's didn't take a higher paying job perhaps with better opportunities because of healthcare those companies were acquired by hostile takeover and let go. I don't object to that that's the capitalistic way but she should had the opportunity to move herself and have a much better lifestyle. Healthcare benefits shouldn't be the reason you stay at company it should be about the long term opportunities with your personal goals. At the end of the day in 1776 healthcare wasn't that good and everyone could afford it with a couple chickens or a cow.”

“So true. The Democrats aren't getting their message across. The Cambridge disagreement didn't help much either along with the birthers going off message also.

What gets me is that they're crying about paying for it. Where was this concern about fiscal responsibility when the last administration was in office?

As for the Democrats who don't want to play ball, we need to make sure that they're not re-elected if they don't understand that they work for us, not the special interests.”

The Republicans Win Big in California!

Commented Jul 21, 2009 at 14:44:32 in Politics

“State governments that don't anticipate downturns in the economy when they are legally required to balance their budget and don't have the option to borrow should voted out. What were they doing when housing prices were booming and taxes were flowing in, Did they not put anything aside. I have no problem taxing oil companies and it should be that way if they are using state natural resources to provide services needed here.

And if you hated the way education was going before then you are going to hate this

also, with all the state and federal budget pressures there is an anger against illegal aliens that is perculating all over the country.

It would help if they had majority rules by having a 2/3 majority to pass a budget it allows the few to control the many and not for the betterment for all in general.”

mlaiuppa replied on Jul 21, 2009 at 22:17:59

See Republican Pete Wilson. Who BTW was responsible for the energy meltdown mess that Davis was left to clean up and was ultimately blamed for.

We can lay all of our problems at the Republicans door. How they keep getting re-elected, I have no clue. Outspending Dems on propoganda and lies I expect.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger: Tea Bagging California

Commented Jul 09, 2009 at 14:58:47 in Politics

“Like most Californians the state of California depends on growth and high incomes to support the spending. The enemy may not be the Governor, the democrats or the republicans but the structure. The Budget requires a 2/3rd's vote that's ludicrous. How can you pass any real reform and how can the Governor be that big a player when the vote required is veto proof. What happened to majority rule.”

the cost of employing people and ad more to the workers payroll or lesson pay cuts.”
