And regarding me telling people how to live... Yet another thing you're injecting into my comments that doesn't exist. Trust me, at this point, I would rather tell you where to go rather than how to live.

How's this for an example: I have a friend at my gym (who is lean) who changed aspects of his diet and exercise and saw MAJOR improvements in his cholesterol and blood work. Just because he's thin doesn't mean that eating well and exercising won't yield the result of increased health.

His experience is living proof that if a person is 250lbs more than he is, they'll most definitely suffer from major health problems at some point. So then it would stand to reason that if they ate well and exercised, they'd see major improvements. If they don't need such a program and don't get sick, perhaps it's that they're just a genetic marvel. However, more often than not, there will be problems.

You'd be well advised to read all my responses on this particular topic and you'll witness that I'm actually arguing AGAINST that weight gain is not detrimental and/or purely genetic.”

If a person is large due to excess weight, chances are, they WILL have problems come from that. Just because your ONE grandmother didn't (and as you confirm, wasn't as large) doesn't mean it's not most often a cause of major issues at some point if someone remains obese for years and years. It's medical proof that obesity is a freakin' problem that leads to other major problems. What is SO HARD for people to grasp?”

As far as eating healthy and losing weight doing strange things to the body. I can tell you that one of the "strange" things that's happened to me is that my body doesn't like crap food anymore. That sure helps speed up the weight loss!”

And I'm someone who has been there. Obesity may not be the direct killer but what happens from being obese will. So let's call it as it is.

“I agree. Your very first sentence mirrors what took me many posts to try and communicate with people who thing I'm arrogant for stating it all starts in the head. Once you're right in the head, the rest does follow. But then again, as I was reminded, apparently not all morbidly obese people have issues leading into their weight gain. I'm sure this is true but I think it's more often the case than not.

And yes there are plenty of self-hating skinny people. Just watch VH1. hehe.”
