“Progressives -- we get a good laugh at the expense of these wing nuts. But I for one will not underestimate them, we have way to many uneducated and uninformed voters knocking around. The media LOVES to cover these wacko rallies and people are to easily influenced in this country. If people think they're winning the fight there will be no shortage of people jumping on they're crazy train.

History tells us young people and minority groups don't turnout in mid term elections. If this comes to pass it will be a disaster. We've already seen the GOP strategy, they will NEVER support a thing this President tries to do. If Pres. Obama loses a majority in the house he'll be stopped in his tracks, which has been their plan from day one. So laughing is fine but ignoring these people we can not, we'd better be ready to engage and fight back. We must get democrats out in droves to vote come mid terms because believe me there will be no shortage of republicans turning out.”

“Before we can stop the spending we have to stop the bleeding! The banks aren't loaning money, people aren't creating jobs and if the government doesn't step in who will? I'm not concerned about what they spend, so long as it's smart spending. This recession is bad enough I don't even want to imagine what it would be like going through a DEPRESSION.”

“Sorry but I don't get the point here - if your in favor of ending the war in Afghanistan why would you want the guy who has a direct line to the president to resign?”

bigbubba90210 replied on Oct 14, 2009 at 22:35:07

“Exactly right. Biden is fulfilling the role he defined for himself - being present during the discussions on the major issues, and advocating his position in those meetings. He doesn't shy away from bluntly stating his position, to put it mildly. And he is occupying a position others in the admin are not, acting as a counterweight.

For a president who notoriously seeks the middle path do you really want to lose the one person who can keep the president honest?”

Nothing but complaints that he didn't get it done the first month in office. When you complain about what he's "doing" asks yourself did the last guy in charge even give a dam.”

“Let me get this right, she has more experience than any of the current judges serving. She was top of her class at Yale, Princeton and Harvard with a long long history of good work. Has already made it through two confirmations to be a judge -- but she is ONLY being nominated because of her gender and race?

This is why affirmative action still is needed in this country. I truly believe if she were a white male with all these accomplishments you wouldn't be making such a statement, but because she happens to be a minority you're questing is this the reason she's being appointed. We are far from being a color blind society.”

“"chose to nominate someone based on their ethnicity and gender."

See this mindset is precisely why your party is left with nothing but "white" southerners. What you're implying is, if you are minority it doesn't matter what you accomplish in life you're still not the best person for the job. This woman has more experienced than any other Supreme Court Justice serving, 19 years of experience, top of your class at Yale and Harvard BUT for people like you that doesn't matter.”

“The only way these greedy bastards are going to do a thing about lowering cost to the consumer is when they have REAL competition. Right now this industry has gotten away with price fixing -- doesn't matter which one you go to the rates are the same, at least that's been my experience. We need the government to step in and give people a lower cost alternative, only then will the crooks lower consumer costs. I don't care if a government plan ends up costing me the same, I would gladly take it just not to pay these greedy bastards another dime.”

“Interesting....there has been no shortage of critics and Geithner bashers on this site. Now given the opportunity to ask him questions suddenly his HP critics have gone mute. Which confirms what I knew -- you can't ask questions about something you know nothing about. The average American doesn't understand the complexity of this situation nor do they have a clue how to fix it. Here's my question, for all the criticism of Geithner why has no critic offered a solution.”

“What strikes me, more than anything else, about this entire cluster f*ck is the revelation that even the highest level of so-called experts in the realm of high finace had and have no idea what's going on. This entire debacle came about cheifly because the industry's "best and brightest" didn't know the first thing about what they were doing.

Here's an offering from a clueless, average American: Clean house. Get rid of all the snakes who are in bed with Government Sachs. Get the knowledgable people who are focused on sound alternatives to this ridiculous plan in... Get people who exist outside of this sick, self-interested circle to come in and give it an honest, and I stress HONEST, effort.”

And, you'd see more questions here if this column was on the front page of the site instead of being tucked away.

What is interesting is that YOU have no questions, which, following your logic confirms that "you can't ask questions about something you know nothing about."”

“First off she was having "tea in the day time" with the queen for all of 25 minutes. It was not a formal event, proven by the low key dress the Queen was wearing. Second she went directly from that event to the G-20 wives dinner which wasn't an overly formal event either.

Also, how is it possible for her to wear something everyone would fine attractive, style is a personal choice which is why departments stores are stack to rafters with "different" styles of clothing.

People seem hell bent on comparing Michele to Jackie-O. Well I personally didn't like most of the clothes Jackie-O wore. And Jackie-O IMO wasn't as attractive as people go on about, but then like cloths different everyone has their own opinion about someone looks.”

It's enough to make your head spin, who can keep up with it. But we expect two men (Geithner & Summers) to not only keep track, but fix it in a day. But there is no shortage of advice, non of which is the answer to the problems.

There is NO quick fix or easy answer to problems that took decades to create, give these guys some time for gods sake!!!

“Perhaps these guys don't have the solutions, but here's the thing OBVIOUSLY NO one else seems to have them either. I'm way tired of hearing the GOP and so called expert criticism. Here's a fact, if there was a solution chances are we never would have gotten into this situation in the first place. This all stems from the GOP's idea hese thieves didn't need oversight. Now they've run a muck and destroyed our economy all the GOP has to offer blaming a 49 day old administration, no solutions just fault hoping that's going to win them some political points.”

Stimulus Package: If You Jump Halfway Across a Chasm You Fall Into the Abyss

Commented Feb 03, 2009 at 01:55:37 in Politics

“The reason this "recovery" package doesn't seem Kosher is because the republicans have done a slick job of turning the word "recovery" into "unnecessary spending". At first glance allot of the republican seem to make sense -- allot of pork, but if you just think through some of the proposed items they are objecting to they actually DON'T make sense. Example "birth control" aid, No one can argue that in the short and long term this will actually save money and it is related to jobs. More women going to family planning keeps people working, but the better argument again is it will save tax dollars. States getting more money also makes sense. In my state several schools will be closed next fall because of lack of state funds, so I don't see how giving states funds is not related to retaining jobs.”
