If a bad bill passes (with a severely weak or no public option), then there will STILL be 2010 losses because a huge chunk of the Democratic support on the left/progressive side will stay home in 2010 (and probably in 2012 as well). Can you say "one term president"?

I'm not an expert on the subject but I would wager that if there IS a shortage of doctors and nurses now, it MIGHT in fact have something to do with the fact that the way the health care system is so massively dysfunctional in this country right now, THAT is what makes doctor/nurse occupations unattractive.

I.E., doctors having to have entire staffs of people to do the paperwork with private insurance companies (and even then having 1 in 5 claims turned down, and having to do the incredibly distasteful and hurtful informing of their patients that they can't provide them with the treatment they need and deserve.

Yeah (my braniac-ness becoming apparent), maybe in a reformed health care system in which doctors can deal with their patients without the private health care mafia in the way (making their practices less expensive doncha know), there WOULD be more people wanting to spend all that TIME and MONEY to become a doctor.
