“actually you need to understand economics a little better my friend, wilsonveteran. when more people are spending more money, the multiplier effect of spending higher percentages of each dollar earned increases demand throughout the economy, lifting all boats from the rising tides of fortune. when this unbalanced distribution of wealth comes by creating unemployment and underpaying those that are working, it eventually causes demand for goods to collapse because there isn't enough of a base of people with extra income left to facilitate higher levels of consumption than existed previously.”

“Multiplier effect, that is bogus. That is like saying the more you spend the more you'll have. The way to have more is to produce more, not consume more.
Income inequality just changes wealth distribution, not wealth creation.”

“EStreet Shuffler, I can't believe your comments here.
I would first like to remind you that we are in the United States of America, and that since a mans home is his castle, that the government shouldn't be able to have a say about a person's life within those walls, except in cases of domestic or child abuse.
Secondly, I would like to remind you that this country was FOUNDED and BUILT by people who had access to hemp, alcohol, a range of dangerous opiates, cocaine, and other much more unhealthy drugs and still managed to create the most successful democracy in human history.
Thirdly, I do take offense at your call not to legitimize the use of another mind altering substance. I would much rather pot be legal than alcohol. What if people (like me) have gastro-intestinal problems that prohibit them from drinking alcohol? Should we place lifestyle limits on them simply because you decided that we should be a nation of drinkers? No, that would be ridiculous.
You sound like a scared suburban mother. Pot could never be a bigger threat to our society than alcohol and since you don't seem to be interested in banning alcohol, I question to you, does this mean that you are not interested in minimizing the risk to society of mind altering substances, or simply that you prefer alcohol as your drug of choice?”

“Its too bad, but I don't think most Senators or Representatives read the bills they sign in full. I doubt many, if any, have someone on their staff read it either. It would take a pretty serious organization to read all the bills they pass and who is gonna support that organization. If you know of one, I would like to support it.”

“You miss the point. The point is that we bailed-out a company that shouldn't exist anymore and did it by purchasing NON-VOTING STOCK, which is itself absolutely ludicrous, and is why we simply can't leverage our 80% ownership of the company to change this. AIG shouldn't be solvent enough to pay these bonuses, or, for its current employees to have jobs. We cannot reward AIG for failing in any way. These people must know that they are fortunate not to be out of work. They don't deserve pity in this matter.”

“It sounds like we have a fox guarding the hen house once again. We need to have people regulating finance that aren't involved in it. All these "financial party" partisan hacks do is give each other breaks, bonuses, or other benefits. They can't stop their insider trading even in the White House. Obama must admit his oversight of the bailout oversight committee and rectify this before his political power weakens significantly.”

Ending the "War on Drugs": The Fierce Urgency of...When?

“Commercialization is the most important part because it leads to taxes. Taxing marijuana "buds" would be a outrageously profitable venture but there are ways to restrict its influence in society, like banning any and all advertising for marijuana. Taxing Hemp itself would be amazing because hemp can be used for so so many different things: biofuel, clothing, paper, polymers can be made from hemp, its seriously a wonder plant. The yield per crop is unbelievable compared to other sources of pulp for paper and it is one of the highest yielding crop per acre in existence. Its probably the highest out of all plants, but I cannot confirm that. We should legalize all of it, mildly tax the industrial applications of it, and heavily tax the 'buds' part of the female plant only. It is the only part of the plant containing worthwhile amounts of THC, which is the actual stuff that can get you 'high'. I would infinitely prefer a land of people smoking way too much pot rather than binging on alcohol. Anybody who knows both of those situations would certainly agree. I have heard that the potential tax revenue from marijuana, just from the THC containing parts, would be in the tens of billions per year. Just think about the unbelievable tax revenue from industrial purposes...I bet we could raise taxes of hundreds of billions of dollars per year eventually. Think about that!”

“Dang, we could really accomplish almost all of our environmental objectives just by legalizing the cultivation of hemp, even just for industrial purposes. Its pretty ironic and sad to me that hemp was maybe the most versatile and historically important product of the early united states (declaration of independence, rigging of USS Constitution, and so much more), was endorsed by the greatest of presidents (Washington cultivated it, Lincoln smoked it while playing harmonica, Jefferson endorsed its use) and is now currently considered obscenely dangerous to our society. This situation is absolutely, completely absurd and is an ongoing insult to the common sense and logical reasoning capabilities of the leadership and citizenry of this country. We should be absolutely ashamed of ourselves as a people for letting a bunch of liars (william randolph hearst and richard nixon come to mind...) villainize this versatile renewable resource. I urge people to become educated on the industrial uses of hemp, weigh the pros and cons of marijuana as a recreational drug against alcohol, and then decide if it is in fact so dangerous to our society.”

“o'reilly, saying these things is really pathetic...all children come in to this world with almost limitless potential given they receive the love, encouragement, and resources necessary enough to help them achieve their dreams. sure, its common to rip on the appalachian 'backwoods' folk, but in truth they are just people like anywhere else. during my time in kentucky, i was amazed at how nice the people were. it seemed like they were warmer and more receiving than most i have met in new york city, although I guess thats no surprise. i guess this shocks me even more since these people are your bread and butter! how can you bite the hand that feeds you? bill, you barely resemble a human.
when we finally depose fox news and put the neocons in jail, i want to start a museum with wax heads of all the neocons so we can teach our children about the egregious errors of the past. wait, even better, we'll simply add another wing to the museum of natural history in new york city and place you and your ilk on a failed branch poking out from the human evolutionary tree. somebody please tell me o'reilly hasn't fathered any children or has been barred from adoption? also, lets pass an amendment so he can't clone himself or reproduce in the future, or even freeze his sperm.”

The Palin speech was full of the same old bullshit that we have hearing for years! Its true, republicans are afraid of substantive debate on solving problems because they don't have the guts to accept responsibility and provide leadership on flagship issues like the economy, immigration, civil rights, the military-industrial complex, and so many more. Republicans just echo the same meaningless phrases that they no longer have the ideas necessary to solve any actual problems without the military. When your only tool is a hammer, every problem seems to look like a nail.”

I consider myself progressive especially when it comes to individual's rights to live freely and express who they are..but I do feel that there is a rampant immorality , crasness and slutification of american society today. I think this is a result of liberalism..kind of like its ugly stepchild.

I loved them all... well, practically all... but don't even get me started on "TheGiving Tree"!
To me, that little book was an allegory of female masochism, telling of a little boy who got iwhatever he asked for from a female tree, and getting it. I saw it as a poem powerfully ndoctrinating boys on what they could expect to get from women, even down to their last breath, and I hated it, still do, with a passion.”

If the Clinton constituency is too stupid to understand this, or prefers that we keep the war going, then I believe the current political landscape is too far gone to believe anything resembling significant political change can come about. Once again (why should I be surprised, really?), undereducated, racially predisposed whites are the lowest common denominator for this election.”

“Hillary IS a monster. She won Ohio on the back of racist, older, white democrats and likely will do the same in Pennsylvania (18% of exit polls in Ohio stating "race was a factor"). She suggsted that electing Obama would lead to millions of deaths in the United States with the 3am phone call ad. Then she has the gall to spit in Obama's eye by suggesting that he would make a great vice-president on her ticket. That is politics as usual. I'd say that Hillary being elected President would be about as great for America as the Catholics electing Ratzinger for Pope. Way to go, America. Way to address the great questions of the day by stepping back in time. Here we need to shed our skin and move towards a greater, authentic multi-culturalism and we get held back by wolf's-in-sheep clothes Democrats who apparently are so old that they forgot about the Civil Rights Movement. So old that they forgot about JFK and RFK who fought so hard against racism. So old that they probably aren't smart enough to read the Huffington Post and maybe get some concrete confirmation that Obama is not a Muslim, not some ghetto black thug who will kill them and their children in the night at 3am. Thanks alot, Ohio. You certainly did well to dispel any rumors of your status as a cultural and intellectual backwater.”
