“I think Lieberman is actively competing with Dick Cheney to become the most hated politician in America. Considering that he's betrayed every promise he made in '06 to get himself reeelected in a state where 76% of the voters favor health care reform, that he's betrayed the Democrats for letting him chair a committee as an independent. Considering that his whole career has been nothing by hypocrisy, it's time to put him away once and for all. He's the very embodiment of that guy nobody would buy a used car from.”

What was Paulson thinking giving them all that money with no strings? Back to productivity, America. Repair the highways, provide renewable energy, and give us an electrical grid that can't be brought down by an icicle.”

“What is Baucus grinning about? Spending 6 months trying to get Olympia Snowe to vote for a joke of a Health Care Bill? This Bill will never make it through the Senate. Hopefully the Senate will get some stones and craft something closer to the Kennedy Bill and include a public option.
I think the $3.9 mil the insurance companies gave Baucus was a bargain for them - they got a huge gift package on the order of $400Billion in return, and a Bill that would force everyone to pay their out of sight rates. Luckily there are four other bills that have decent provisions for them, so I'm crossing my fingers that the Conference Bill will include a public option.”

The stated purpose of the TARP was to get lending going, and the financiers ignored that, which they did, choosing instead to enrich themselves by buying out other failing financial institutions, then it's time to let them fall on their collective butts, and deal with the consequences. These people are so tone deaf to the misery they've caused, to homeowners, and to the economy in general, that only defeat and failure will put a stop to this.
It's time the politicians wised up to what really drives the economy. It's not driven by people playing short term profit games shuffling around imaginary money. The economy in this country still depends more than anything else upon people providing goods and services for the good and use of other people, who then provide other goods and services for others to buy into. Money needs to be circulating in the economy instead of sitting in the fake bank accounts of those who have no idea what it's like to live in, and try to make a living in, the real world. In short, let the CEOs bail these companies out with their own money and get these companies off the backs of the American people.”

“I've seen comments that the opposition is racist in character, and I agree that there would be no objection at all to a white President adressing the kids, as has been done several times in the past. I think, though, that at the core of the right wing's opposition to all things Obama is a fundamental opposition to Democracy. “I'm not at all convinced that President Obama is on the ropes. I'm watching a Lincoln biography on NGEO, and it's bringing to mind some interesting paralells between Lincoln's first term and that of Obama. Now, as then, we see a rise of rabid bigotry and hate, and the division is once again between North and South. The hatred and vitriol being leveled against all things Obama is nothing new at all; It merely underscores the inability of the right to accept Democracy. So instead of graceful acceptance of a loss, they want to talk about having America stolen from them, and even about secession in some quarters, hanging effigies of elected officials and packing guns to events where the President is speaking.
If this was the Summer when a popular President lost much of his popularity, I believe that America will right herself and see this conflict for what it is; the knee-jerk radicalism of the lunatic fringe. The season will come, and come soon, when Obama will rise to the challenge and go on to be the great President the voters elected him to be. I wrote him not long ago, urging him to take the lead, and I believe he is about to do just that.”

“It's actually the default response of the radical right to losing control via elections. When JFK was elected, there was a resurgence of vitriol and hate from the John Birch Society, calls for impeaching Earl Warren from the Supreme Court, gun rights activiasm, and KKK activity. Under Clinton, we got the Aryan Nations militias, more howling about socialism, gun rights activism, and various acts of violence, including the Oklahoma City bombing.
Now we have President Obama, and the fierceness of the attacks and accusations is stronger than every - militia groups are organizing all over the country, death threats almost daily, and the kind of rhetoric that enables things like the murder of Dr. Tiller. The right doesn't know how to lose gracefully at all.”

There is no amount of finessed language you can put into a "health-care reform" bill that will bring insurance companies, big Pharma, and the medical equipment manufacturers under control, no law that will make those people grow a conscience. There must and will be a public option, a health care bill that will extend coverage to everyone and rein in these money grubbers unless they are forced to compete. If this does not happen, and happen this year, there will no longer be a Democratic majority in the Congress, or the Senate after the 2010 election. You guys, and you Republicans too, were elected to do a job for us; we've told you loudly and clearly what needs to happen. Now GET IT DONE!”

“Hmm... touching video of the President hugging the lady at the town hall. I'm at a point, though, where I hope there's more than touching in the Presiden't response. I'm becoming discouraged, watching the Democrats folding in the bitter wind blowing from the right side of the aisle. All this talk about "no public option," no single payer and so on. The Democrats as of yesterday have a 60 vote majority in the Senate and an overwhelming majority in the House, and they keep saying they don't have the votes.
Mr. President, Members of the Congress, and Senators: If there ever was a mandate for universal health care in this country that madate occurred on Noember 4, 2008. Mr. President, why do you think we and 53 million Americans voted for you? Senators and Congressmen on the Democratic side, why do you think we voted for you? Polls show that around 72% of Americans have figured out that there is no health-care reform coming unless there is a public option.”
