The President and the Vigilantes
Commented Sep 07, 2009 at 20:58:32 in Politics
“I'm not at all convinced that President Obama is on the ropes. I'm watching a Lincoln biography on NGEO, and it's bringing to mind some interesting paralells between Lincoln's first term and that of Obama. Now, as then, we see a rise of rabid bigotry and hate, and the division is once again between North and South. The hatred and vitriol being leveled against all things Obama is nothing new at all; It merely underscores the inability of the right to accept Democracy. So instead of graceful acceptance of a loss, they want to talk about having America stolen from them, and even about secession in some quarters, hanging effigies of elected officials and packing guns to events where the President is speaking.
If this was the Summer when a popular President lost much of his popularity, I believe that America will right herself and see this conflict for what it is; the knee-jerk radicalism of the lunatic fringe. The season will come, and come soon, when Obama will rise to the challenge and go on to be the great President the voters elected him to be. I wrote him not long ago, urging him to take the lead, and I believe he is about to do just that.”

“I'm not sure how you can be comparing Obama to Lincoln without mentioning how Lincoln ended up. They're already bring weapons to meetings, how long before a handful of rednecks decide to save their country they have to kill Barack? They are, after all, talking about it loudly. Is this assassination going to be like "Gosh we never saw it coming!"? No, I fully expect somebody to try soon to kill the man. The bizarre thing is it was Bush who destroyed our nation. He bankrupted us and tossed us into two wars that can't be won. I think it was a setup to take down the next President. They got lucky that it was a black President, but they would have attacked anyone.”

A Note to Bill Clinton
Commented Sep 26, 2008 at 17:45:03 in Politics
“Wow! that had to be said, and one may hope Bill takes it to heart. I've said that if I were advising Obama, I'd say, "Don't expect a lot from the Clintons; they don't care about the issues of this election as much as they co about themselves and their fortunes. I'd have started the article by saying "given that we wouldn't have the odioust George Bush if you hadn't thrown Al Gore under the bus in 2002..."”

“Gosh UT - don't you recall that G ore threw WJC under the bus and that along with the Supreme Ct. decision elected GWB? So I guess you also have forgotten the fundraising, campaign appearances, Denver speeches? You have forgotten the real enemy is the Repugs.”
Arianna on the CBS Early Show Discussing the Politics of Palin
Commented Sep 19, 2008 at 15:58:04 in Politics
“Right, Arainna; Palin was not vetted by the McCain campaign, and now McCain/Palin are paying the price. Whether they like it or not, Palin is being and will be vetted as the stories come out from AK. This "shining star" of the GOP has turned out to be more of a bottle rocket: a loud whistle, a stream of fire climbing up into the sky, then a flash, pop, and gone. She's become a major distraction, and makes McCain look like a doddering old fool.”

“It's dirt simple: Rape is a crime. Rape kits are a criminal investigation tool. As part of the investigation, they're as necessary as fingerprint kits and rubber gloves.”
Fudgefase replied on Sep 16, 2008 at 08:37:08
“Exactly.
Rape is difficult enough to prove without s29t like this being thrown at girls and women subjected to it. And as for incest???? How can anyone argue against helping the victim?”

Governor Palin's Reading List
Commented Sep 15, 2008 at 17:45:30 in Politics
“Wow! That is absolutely scarey. I read similar things on my local forums here in Utah. The Bubba vote is a big part of what drives the Republican vote in states like Utah. They won't exactly say it that way; instead they'll use loaded words like "elitist." As the election grows closer, they're beginning to ratchet up the rhetoric. Some of them are now saying "half-breed." It's only a matter of time, they'll get there.”
Enough!: Why Obama Should Release His Righteous Rage
Commented Sep 12, 2008 at 03:12:05 in Politics
“Absolutely, Ariana. "Enough," along with "Not this time" from his speech last spring during the Jeremiah Wright distraction, should be the rallying cry.
I have another movie analogy, from "Rocky III." It comes near the end of the movie, as Clubber Lang seens to be pulverizing Rocky, and Rocky seems not to be defending himself. In Rocky's corner, the trainer says to Paulie, "He's getting killed!" Paulie replies, "He's not getting killed, he's getting MAD!"
It's time, Senator; take this chump. Take him down hard and take him down "Poimanent. POIMANENT!"”

John McCain Is Not George Bush, Sarah Palin Is
Commented Sep 07, 2008 at 05:03:02 in Politics
“She's not Bush. She's Barry (Barbie) Goldwater. I still can't believe McCain thinks he's going to get Hillary Clinton supporters and moderates by going that far to his own right.”
The "Other" Base
Commented Sep 06, 2008 at 21:20:48 in Politics
“She was, of course, not fully vetted, or vetted at all for that matter. She will be vetted in the worst possible way for the GOP campaign - by the press during the campaign process. When McGovern had to dump Tom Eagleton in '72, he had alomst 4 months to recover, and still lost. McCain has less than two months to sell this choice to the voters, and she's already fading.”

RNC Video Diary: African-American Republicans Weigh in on Obama
Commented Sep 03, 2008 at 21:23:41 in Politics
“From watching the cameras pan the convention floor, you almost wouldn't even know there are any African American Republicans.”
RRonin replied on Sep 04, 2008 at 00:25:18
“I noticed it too. In past conventions the Republicans made a point of putting the black Republicans on display, making sure they were always in camera range. This time, there were hardly any black folk in the crowd and there was no attempt to show them off for the cameras. I would call this convention "The Empire Strikes Back."”

"Caroline: Pull a Cheney!" An Open Letter to Caroline Kennedy (Head of the Obama VP Search Team)

“I just reread your post, and I have a question. Were you thinking that I'm African American. Just to clarify, as if it should matter, my ethnicity is mostly English, with a touch of Irish, a whisper of German, and rumors of maybe a bit of Native American. I didn't propose Donna Brazile as a black candidate, but as a really wise and "in touch" American who happens to be a Democrat.”

“The first time I heard of this possibility, I said "Whoa!" That would be a bold move, and would be a winner in many ways. The last really fresh ideas from the White House, IMHO were those of her father, and frankly, Obama's philosophies, policies, and position are very reminiscent of JFK.
Now, I'm going to throw a monkeB wrench into this. I don't thin anyone has brought up this possibility, but how about Donna Brazile? Just a thought.”

“I am one of the millions just like you. So don't speak for me. Do I have to remind you that we need to win? If you can just relax and come back to planet earth and understand that we are going to have to compromise to win this thing. Yes it is true that Biden voted for the war, but he has come very clean with his regret for that vote. But we can't always get our way 100% of the time. Would you rather Obama pick some one that would suit your profile and then lose? I hope that the part of our party who are so self righteous and so pious can bend a little bit. We have got to win this thing and we have got to support whom ever Obama picks or we will lose. Don't be a whiny baby. You can't always have your way. Now saying that I do love your idea about Caroline Kennedy. Now that would be a dream ticket.
Don't cause trouble we have enough trouble with the crazy ass republicans who would see your problem with Obama's choice as a wonderful thing. Let's don't let them win.”
