“I'm not at all convinced that President Obama is on the ropes. I'm watching a Lincoln biography on NGEO, and it's bringing to mind some interesting paralells between Lincoln's first term and that of Obama. Now, as then, we see a rise of rabid bigotry and hate, and the division is once again between North and South. The hatred and vitriol being leveled against all things Obama is nothing new at all; It merely underscores the inability of the right to accept Democracy. So instead of graceful acceptance of a loss, they want to talk about having America stolen from them, and even about secession in some quarters, hanging effigies of elected officials and packing guns to events where the President is speaking.
If this was the Summer when a popular President lost much of his popularity, I believe that America will right herself and see this conflict for what it is; the knee-jerk radicalism of the lunatic fringe. The season will come, and come soon, when Obama will rise to the challenge and go on to be the great President the voters elected him to be. I wrote him not long ago, urging him to take the lead, and I believe he is about to do just that.”

I have another movie analogy, from "Rocky III." It comes near the end of the movie, as Clubber Lang seens to be pulverizing Rocky, and Rocky seems not to be defending himself. In Rocky's corner, the trainer says to Paulie, "He's getting killed!" Paulie replies, "He's not getting killed, he's getting MAD!"
