“This scares me to death. How will the anger generated by such things, even flipping off people upset by their callous disregard for human life, be calmed without violence? I lost a son many years ago and the pain is still here though no longer quite as fierce as once before.

I'd likely have smashed the face of a fool who taunted ME! But this company allowed a child to DIE so as not to disturb their bottom line! They are complicit in a homicide on some level. It's not "accidental" nor "murder" but a crime has been done and if our laws do nothing, someday possibly even lethal violence will come down.

Sadly, the authors of the policy will be unscathed while some underling pays with his or her life.

Congress do something, and do it NOW!”

“one of my favorites quotes:(Just seems so appropriate in this day and age.)

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find anything that agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

(Siddhartha Gautama - The Buddha), 563-483 B.C.

Science provides answers that must always be questioned.

Philosophy asks questions that may never be answered.

And religion provides answers that must never be questioned.”

“I’m a retired anesthesiologist. The “free market” concept with “comparison shopping” just doesn’t work in Emergency rooms!! Gunshot victims don’t have the time for that.

But the purchases of drugs, supplies, services of “administrators” and more are quite amenable to “shopping”!

Is a hospital administrator really worth more than three or five times the value of a specialist who trained nearly a decade after medical school? How silly, but that’s what the system lets them get.

Are drug prices that can reach a 1000 % markup over cost not obscene? Hey, how do you think they can afford to pay CEO’s tens of MILLIONS of bucks each year?

Should scissors that can be had at a notions counter for 18 dollars really be worth the 165 bucks if found in a Hospital Supply catalog?

I saw these things first hand as a “hospital based” physician while the admitting doctors who sent in their patients missed it. I was there all the time and saw it clearly.

Remember, all those dollars come from PATIENTS. The “Medical Industrial Complex” is a huge efficient vacuum sucking the life out of the sick and infirm. And who do you think functions in the role of the “collectors and enforcers”? Ta Da! The insurance mobsters, that’s who.

Other countries just do not permit it!! Only SINGLE PAYER fixes the problem nearly completely.

“I know your pain. I'm a retired "gas passer" and too many think I led a really cushy life. Like you, I did a lot at night, on weekends, and holidays and a whole lot for NO PAY.

I retired comfortably with an income roughly equal to my brother's who is a retired colonel. He put up with a lot, too, but he never had to try to beat the odds in the market for his retirement nut. Too many doctors I know are barely scraping by in their retirement. Pediatricians are really hurting.

Your specialty scared the hell out of me while I was exposed to it. You deserve any form of plush retirement you have, I could NEVER have survived in an Ob/Gyn practice. Enjoy your well earned rest.”

“I think you are absolutely right! Since Eisenhower, the last halfway decent Republican president, the GOP has worked tirelessly to "dumb down" our populace. Just force yourself to watch Fox News (?) for a full hour.

The parade of distortions, perversions, and outright LIES (protected by the First Amendment) you'll see could NEVER be swallowed by people with a real education, and they know it!

The GOP's policies in general have allowed this once great country to slip down and to continue to slip. I owe nearly all of my present situation to the fact of the New Deal. Welfare for family stability in poverty (death of breadwinner) thru high school, college via federal scholarship, graduate school aided mainly with low cost student loans, and then to become (big time) tax PAYER to repay over and over for the sorely needed help!!

I defy any so-called conservative to name one, just one, program aimed at giving strapped youth the tools that can help them to become fully developed!! THERE ARE NONE !!”

“You're right. I'm an old man and I find that now the level of science being taught in most schools is miserable. There's some interference from the public that limits discussions of sex, elimination, and bowel functions. In my time we learned about a whole array of parasitic dangers, and this is certainly one.

“I'm educated to a doctorate in science, and naturally skeptical. But once, on a lark, during my forties, I listened to a "psychic". She predicted two things so specifically that to this day I still shake my head. One was a death and the other a near death.

I'd told others of the predictions before they came to pass as well.

I'm not religious at all, don't get into the "atheist v. agnostic v. deist" arguments, but definitely am an ardent "anti-theist". I deplored the way that fatuous Bush tried to force "faith-based" garbage on this country.

As for other phenomena, I just don't know.”

gugg15 replied on May 03, 2009 at 14:21:55

“That's interesting, those educated in the Natural Sciences tend to be more likely to believe in God, whereas those in the Humanities are less likely. The least likely are those in Religious studies, however I'm not sure how accurate that is.

Besides, you shouldn't be listening to Psychics, they usually tend to be charlatans and/or participators with Satan. If you truly want freedom and peace and happiness, choose God. He's the one that made you, He's the one that loves you, He wants so badly for you to turn to Him and away from this hazy atheistic non-belief spiritualism that drives people to psychics and denies God and bases their belief on consciousness. If you want True Happiness, the Christian God is the source from which all happiness flows. Anything that will tell you otherwise is a lie whose source is the prince of lies, satan himself.”

“Surrendering certainty is the first step. But a lot of really "educated "people never get past the kicking and screaming. Bush's religious certainty is just as useless and potentially destructive as anyone who trys to stake out or deny this territory in any way, shape or form -because it defies human definition. This is one area where a map will definitely not give you any clues, but may be somewhat comforting to hold on to. Like a blankie.”

“The appointing of Bush by the high court pushed by Scalia was a true horror. Now the arrogant Scalia has become a laughing stock. After we heard about his "S & F bomb" ruling, we howled.

When we heard about Justice Scalia’s comments, my son got nearly hysterical. After he quieted down, he proposed that we ban both those awful words from our house and substitute others for them. (We very rarely use either, I assure you)

He looked at the latest deposit on the carpet by our new puppy and said “Look, darn it! The puppy just s**t over there!” Then he guffawed and said “Let’s use another “S-bomb” instead.”

After a short debate, we settled on another “S-bomb” that means the same to us, namely SCALIA. That works just fine around here.”

Health Care Reform that Will Kill the U.S. Economy

Commented Apr 28, 2009 at 11:14:18 in Politics

“Ah, a kindred spirit! I'm a retired anesthesiologist and I and my retired colleagues are all in favor of a "single payer" system. A Canadian doctor friend whom I met when he worked here is delighted with his return to Canada.

His income is virtually the same because of his near zero overhead, and he needn't worry about how a patient can afford needed care. In fact, an illness that would have bankrupted him here (which began long after his return) is being cared for with no increase in his expenses beyond the taxes he pays.

Some doctors are indeed money grubbers and they are unethical. Most are not.

The real swine at the trough are the insurance companies, Big Pharma, and hospital supply outfits..”
