The real point is that sometimes the black guy gets cut from the photo and sometimes he doesn't, as do many actors of all colors and both genders who sometimes end up on the cutting room floor. I usually play a personal game watching of which semi-finalists will NOT match the Barbie-Doll image of tall, long hair, light skin, near runway model build. The Pacific Rim contestants get shafted almost every year, and it's still a rarity to get a dark-skinned winner (although Miss Trinidad-Tobago has won twice).

“I agree with the points you make. Some addtional info...two years ago Miss Japan won Miss Universe, a refreshing rarity. Also, one of my favorite winners of the past decade or so was Miss Botswana. She was very African-looking, not the conventional white Barbie-type. She was one of my favorite Miss Universe winners ever. Sometimes the judges do get it right.”
