An Open Letter To President Obama On Afghanistan

“I think the president realized before he undertook this cause that Brazil had a better chance. Sentimentally because of the IOC's former member's plea, but just plain realistically, because this is a time of change and what bigger change than to bring the Olympics to South America. I think Brazil largely was able to fly under the radar re: its chances because no one was aware of how well they could prove their readiness to host the Olympics. It is always worthwhile to try, but it is also worthwhile to acknowledge rationally what the chances are. Obama is pragmatic. I believe he realized before. But then, how unsupportive would it be for him not to go and present our case? That could be seen as negative as the Republicans' celebration of US losing the bid. I did not see this as a rebuff by the IOC. Don't know why others did, except perhaps they wanted something to try to undercut Obama's efforts.”

They pay attention to what is happening here and they remember--and if you go and see them they will ask you about it! Talk about feeling ashamed, then! “Women do not enable men's infidelity. I took a good look at my husbands, told him I didn't like it and divorced him when he would not stop. Perhaps Hilary sees something else--like some other woman being the idiot who puts up with sexual practices she has no interest in sharing with the husband. There are women who do that, you know. There are marriages where husbands and wives agree that there will always be some other person or persons, male or female, who take care of their partners needs because that is the simplest solution. Americans are very naive about accepting this publicly. Many Europeans seem to see it as a fact of life.”
HAIR the Musical and my Trip to Cuba

“Can't believe you posted this yesterday and there's no comment. I was in my twenties when HAIR hit Broadway and it was such an immediate hit, it seems to me. The songs Hair , Age of Aquarius and Let the Sunshine in were played endlessly on the radio and there were many many war protests both in Washington and locally. Many celebrities were involved, and there was real emotion, yet I didn't really believe America was doomed as those kids said.
It is so different now. People are managed so much better now, our attention is corraled and directed to idiotic things so that we wont pay attention to the really important stuff. We are deliberately lied to by manipulators who know that we are either so busy working or so heavily sedated--or just plain lazy--that we won't bother to use the wonderful access we have to current events so that we can learn the real truth and make intelligent decisions.
Now, like the characters in Hair, I think that this nation is really doomed. I just couldn't see that 40 years ago when the musical first came out. So many dreaded situations really have come to pass, and we are all so blind to it...”

“Of all the "Real Housewives" shows, this one was really the most rep ugnant. What a bunch of xenophobes! The older sister felt threatened because Jackie liked Danielle. Sure Danielle had some skeletons in the closet but what forty-something person doesn't have some regrets if she has had any sort of interesting life at all. The older sister wats a bully and a liar and I don't know why anyone would ever even want to be friends with her. When you get right down to it, I don't know why anyone would wnat to be friends with this whole group. Only the husbands and Jackie seem to be actually okay.
(By the way, I love the husband who told the wife who was gaga over a new sofa, what did he care about a sofa? and that he didn't care, and if she liked it, good, that was all he cared about.)”

“What I have learned from working in the world of community programs funded by the government, private business, wealthy people and foundations is that the people who give on a certain level get together and decide the types of programs they will provide funding for. Then the people in the know understand that they must shape their proposals a certain way. For instance, I have been aware of years when the important goal was strengthening volunteer programs or enhancing access to primary medical care, or organizing communities by building block clubs. Green jobs and the environment are popular nowadays, and I believe that education is probably about to make a big comeback since so many school districts are suffering.
I see nothing wrong with this. People with money who want to do good works should have some input into where their money is spent and the kind of good it will do. And if they want to present an organized front, to pu emphasis on certain points, that, too is their right.”

“Obviously youare not from the church community. People want them to visit. At the end of a church visit, a love offering is what happens. The love offering repays them for the time and effort it took to get there and shows them support and love. Visiting pastors, choirs, authors, whatever, all get love offerings in my church. Jon and Kate were known to be regular church-goers long before their sextuplets came along. Kate's father was a pastor. I am sure he could talk about many love offerings he himself has received.”

“Where have you been? There are several families with sextuplets that manage on their own, at least one in Alabama, one in Washington DC. You don't hear about them because they just got down to business and handled it. No TV show was looking for them and they had no other option. I saw the family from Alabama being interviewed just a week ago. The Dad works and the mother manages with the help of family and friends and their kids are about six years old. I remember the mother as looking plain and down to earth and smiling. And the kids were not perfectly behaved, but they were (mostly) sitting still.”

“Oh B.S. Most people with that many kids need help and get it from some type of media attention even if it's only local. They are not doing it 100% on their own. No average middle class family even with two parents working can totally self sustain that many children even with just family and friends helping them out. And how would you suggest a parent of that many children save to send them all to college so they make a decent living to help the family out later? Preposterous.

“As a fan, I have seen half hour shows of a road trip and the family enjoying a visit somewhere. This includes film clips of them getting ready--usually the day before, a clip of them loading the car and leaving, a clip of them arriving, and maybe a total of ten minutes of what happens at the venue, then a clip of them leaving. So if the kids are being filmed for a total of eight hoursover two days once a week, for about twenty weeks of the year, I have no problem with that. I have a problem with the money involved and how the kids are being protected that way. One thing about Kate, she is a well organized mother who really does take care of her children. I believe she and Jon love their kids. I just think they haven't thought things out well enough.”

“The Gsselin twins were the result of fertility treatments. They wanted one child but were told that there was a chance of multiple births. The odds were, though that there would only be a single birth. But they had twins.
They were given the same odds when they wanted to have a third child to complete their planned family. The result was sextuplets this time.
Whatever your thoughts or opinions are on fertility treatments, they are not the law.
I guess if you want to adopt, fine, but if I could see a way to experience a pregnancy and bear my own child from my egg and my husband's sperm, I would want to do it, too. Sorry, I know how popular adoption is these days, but I would want my own child if I could bear one.
I think Jon and Kate have made some mistakes and I believe the children need more protection, but basically, the "results" you cited could occur in most in child's life without their being on television.
I grew up in a family of six girls and we were very well disciplined, but we still argued and fought.
What planet are you from?”

“Well, I'm on Earth now, but I'm not sure where I was before. :)
Today's world is much more complicated, and fewer families are as large as they used to be. Of course it's not law, but the planet is overwhelmed, so the fewer kids the better.
We all know that the chances of multiples are MUCH HIGHER with fertility treatments. This idea of wanting a certain number of children to complete a family is kind of selfish. They already had their own biological kids. Maybe it's nature's way of saying - let's not mess with this too much. Not everyone is fertile, and maybe there's a reason for that.
Let's think about the quality of life of the actual kids. Glad you had a good upbringing. Sure, these issues could occur in other situations. But it's a lot for these kids to take.”

I never like to submit to the hot comb (actually I am afraid and dodge like crazy!) and hairstyles like MO's cost money that was not in my budget because they have to be renewed too often. Many black men have assumed I was militant, and I had to correct them. I am just myself, a woman who is not very good at doing my own hair, who finds a $10 haircut every month or so easy to afford.”
