“OMG!
You are not seriously going to go there are you?
What modern president hasn't been in office when some "lone nut" didn't spin off his bolt?
This event was tragic, but hardly something that the POTUS would have any oversight on.
Care to comment on ALL THE KILLINGS on ALL THE MILITARY POSTS during Bush?
I didn't think so.”

“The only "technology" that exists, that can't be compromised, is to "unplug" your network from the "public" network. If it has a connection, someone will find a way in.”

“Exactly. Most people here don't understand how complex the problem is. It begins with the fact that no software is totally bug free. All you need is one server program that has a buffer overrun bug, an input filtering bug, or a number of other issues. If that server process runs as root/administrator, that machine becomes eminently hackable by a savvy enough programmer. Compound that with the fact that most users are local administrators on their desktops because it's easier to not have to elevate your privileges to install/run stuff by always having to type in a password, and you see the problem. Thousands of non-tech savvy users having administrative-grade permissions on the same network as machines with truly sensitive information.
A serious review of security comes up with a difficult choice: make it easy to use and loosen security, or up security and make it more burdensome for end users. It's the choice all organizations need to find a balance between.”

Answers, unless we get significant changes made on how long information remains "classified", will take decades to be provided.
The only way we'll get the information we need (as American Citizens) is by a massive uprising by US!
Or, we might be able to buy it from the hackers.”

“Sadly, this capability is in everyone's hands. Some governments sponsor schools to teach their personnel, but many other "rogue" elements simply go out and recruit "hackers" for whatever purpose they desire.
Two things that I find extremely perplexing are:
The Military maintains a "separate network" for classified information. Why any high value information should be out on the regular "internet" is beyond me.
Our Government leadership seems determined to hold fast to the concept that "they can protect" the computers, servers, and networks that they use, so that "unauthorized use" doesn't occur.
They can not!
Everything contained on the internet is in the form of a 1 or a 0. Plug the right 1's and 0's in to the right place and you get unlimited access to all the 1's and 0's contained there. There is simply NO WAY to prevent that from happening. The only way to accomplish this is by physically separating your network from any other network and diligently monitoring the infrastructure.”

“Mr. Tancredo was attempting to validate his statement by asserting that "Veterans that he has spoken to, do not want the V.A. to run their Healthcare". This was disingenuous at best.
If you are suggesting that ANY Politician should not know better than to try to prove their point by citing a random sampling of comments made by a population that they come into contact with, who "by definition" are likely in agreement with their perspective of the world in general, then you are more foolish than I thought.
A politicians job is to seek the opinions of ALL their constituents, and to base their actions on ALL their constituents needs. Mr. Tancredo wouldn't have had to go very far to find a Veteran who was happy with his V.A. Healthcare, but he would have had to talk to Veterans that were not participants at his rallies.
And yes, he was attempting to speak for "Veterans" as a group. To hear it any other way is simply another example of "hearing what you want to hear". But, that's what the right excels at, isn't it?”

“You're confusing quantity with quality.
Mr. Tancredo received his final deferment because he was "depressed". Not to downplay depression, but I suspect that many young men were "depressed " when they found they were being drafted to fight a war they didn't support. Mr. Tancredo actually spoke publicly in support of the war, and then didn't serve.
Vice President Biden received "student deferments" as did many college students at that time, and when he finished college, he reported, but was disqualified due to Asthma.
Five Deferment DICK simply said he had more important things to do than to fight in a war.
All things being equal, none of them should be particularly proud to have not served.
The biggest difference is; Mr. Tancredo and DICK are big time WAR SUPPORTERS who seem more than willing to commit American Lives to endless wars.
Vice President Biden is a foreign policy wonk who has committed his life to trying to avoid more wars.”

“You would have a point, IF Mr. Tancredo had been citing a poll or survey.
But he wasn't. He was talking out his oversized backside. Most Veterans see many things that need to be fixed in the VA, but that is a big part of the benefits package that makes joining "attractive". Healthcare for life is a pretty big deal if you grew up without it for any period of time.
Take a poll, do a survey, and I would wager you would find that the vast majority would not give up their Healthcare. They would just like it "improved".
As for it being "irrelevant", I totally disagree. I personally find it quite offensive when ANYONE who hasn't worn the uniform attempts to speak FOR ME, without having gone through the normal process of being authorized by one of the reputable veterans groups. There is a procedure in place, to have the backing of Veterans you have to solicit their endorsement. Mr. Tancredo has never had, nor is he likely to ever have any major Veterans group endorse his opinions.”

“I'm afraid you can not have it both ways.
While your comment on Depression is spot on, I don't believe that is what Mr. Moulitas was mocking.
The point he was making was; having never served, you do not have the right to "speak" for the veterans. This is offensive when the speaker is attributing a political position to Veterans that likely is not true (he certainly didn't offer any numbers or surveys to support his premise). This is particularly offensive when done by someone who, by all appearances, spoke out vociferously in favor of the war, and then failed to answer the call to serve. Do you think there were not large numbers of depressed, but not as well connected, young men who gave their lives in the Vietnam war?
It can not be the case that Mr. Tancredo was "completely wrong", but Mr. Moulitas should "apologize". It's one or the other, it can not be both.”

It certainly looks as though the party is likely to embrace the most extreme fringe of their constituents, particularly in those places where they believe they can do so and still remain "competitive" by the sheer number of "party faithful" that they believe will still vote for the party even if the candidate seems to embrace ideas that they personally may disagree with.
It will be interesting to see how this strategy works out for them in these regions, but it certainly does not seem to be a prudent strategy for a party that hopes to be significant on the National level.”
