Irish Catholic Church Covered Up Decades Of Child Abuse, Report Says
Commented Nov 28, 2009 at 12:48:15 in World
“Canon law has always been at odds with civil law, and until the church is made subservient to the state these abuses will continue. I lived in Ireland off and on for years, and only when they joined the EU and EU human rights law went into effect, did womens rights, gay rights, and childrens rights progress into the 20th century.”

“I knew conservatives would reveal their latent racism when Obama took office, but I had no idea their world view could be flipped like a light switch: One day they were cock eyed myoptimists, and the next, Cassanramatics; prognosticators of doom.
At this point, we should pay them some small mind only to keep an eye on how history is being rewritten.
Swing voters tend to be critical thinkers, and I don't think they're buying. Even dim bulb Joe the Plumber has a certain simplistic skepticism, and I doubt even he can be swung by more calculated panic and pig in a pokism.”

Joe Lieberman's Anti-Public Option Rationale Keeps Shifting
Commented Nov 24, 2009 at 02:37:03 in Politics
“Joe Lieberman needs to be primaried next year and run out of the senate once and for all. He's a shill for corporate insurance; always has been, always will be. He'll do and say anything to maximize his media exposure and his corporate campaign donations. He's no Democrat, and he's a pretty lousy Independent as well. History will not remember him fondly, and the sooner he's history the better.”
rf-hawaii replied on Nov 24, 2009 at 03:13:51

Fareed Zakaria: Is American Innovation A Thing Of The Past?
Commented Nov 16, 2009 at 20:04:01 in Business
“You can't be innovative unless you acknowledge that things change. America used to be a place where things changed fast and people weren't afraid of that fact. Many of us, however, have been smug and complacent since the fifties. We found a lofty perch we liked, and decided things were going to settle down and stay the same from now on.
Only they didn't.
Anyone who's been to a class reunion has see the former football star, now a middle aged, desperate to hold onto the glory days in high school; hold onto that self righteous attitude even as the circumstances that warranted it have changed.
America, wake up: High school is over.
If corporate pump and dumps, winning in the cash flow business, and new improved ways for banks to screw their customers are the sum total of modern American innovation, then we deserve to lose our place of privilege. Our bonds will become junk the way our way of living and thinking have become junk. The rest of the world will have learned to take the best of American innovation, mixed in a bit of their own, and left the trash behind.”

It is stupid to assume a few large corporations, corrupted Congress/Whitehouse, greedy banks

Besides this article is simply a thinly veiled propaganda for more H1B visas for foreign tech workers, tax subsidies to US IT corporations doing "research", etc., The CEOs of Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Sun, HP, IBM have been recycling this propaganda since the dotcom days.”

McCain Urges Town Hall Attendees To Cut Up AARP Membership Cards
Commented Nov 16, 2009 at 08:42:37 in Politics
“I hear a lot of brave noise from Republicans about cutting waste in government, but when someone actually tries to cut waste in a program they never wanted in the first place, they go on a fault finding mission devoid of facts. This is the worst kind of double edged hypocrisy for political gain at the expense of the public good. McCain should be ashamed of himself, shut up on this subject and focus on something he knows something about; bloated military expenditures greater than the rest of the world combined that are bankrupting us.”
