“Well people, this is where we've ended up. Many of us saw this 10 years ago when the first huge wave of reality shows started. We no longer have focused, talented and driven performers as our stars and role models, we now just have the shameless publicity hounds. We don't want them to be good at anything... Jon Gosselin can't sing, Kate can't act, Octomom can't dance, Balloon Boy isn't a sports star, Paris Hilton doesn't write good books and Paris Hilton isn't a ground-breaking artist. Levi Johnson doesn't even have that great of a body and his PG-13 photospread looked like it was done by a bunch of drunk fratboys with a Polaroid. Talent isn't even required for those behind the camera.

Andy Warhol was right about the instant fame thing but wrong about it lasting 15 minutes. Fame has been replaced by "celebrity" and now lasts as long as the subject is willing to create stories worth reporting.

Just making a sextape isn't enough anymore. Paris Hilton's star has faded as she becomes no different from other celebutants from Hollywas. Now you have to stage a break in, stage your son flying away in a balloon, crash the white house, have 19 kids (it'll REALLY help your cred if they start to be born premature so you can give up-to-the-minute reports to People Magazine).

We can get angry when people pull stunts like this but the anger should be directed at ourselves.”
