Media Fail: Kimberly Munley Did Not Bring Down Fort Hood Killer

Commented Nov 12, 2009 at 17:41:37 in Media

“Right on, brother. The media and the general public are way too quick to take any achievements away from African Americans or Gays and Lesbians.

Oh, they have no trouble running with the story when one of us breaks the law but if we do something to be proud of, they either fudge the facts or just don't report it at all.”

“It started with Survivor. Then "American Idol" and then it went into a tail-spin.

Sure there were "reality" shows before Survivor but hey didn't seem as sleazy and voyeuristic before the days of web sites, fan forums, blogs and Tweets.

At one time, being "famous" required a talent of some sort. You had to be able to sing or dance or act or explain science to kids in an entertaining way.

But now... Sanjaya and William Hung can just become famous for humiliating themselves in public. Now to be "famous," all you need is a complete lack of shame. "Real" stars are squeezed off of "E!" and "real" news off of CNN by those trash-in-the-pan "celebrities" who win instant fame on reality shows or by having 8 kids at once.”

“It's become very clear that if this were a fairy tale, Republicans are the ugly step sisters. Seeing their little dance of glee just made me ill. We could have used that influx of money, influx of jobs and reason to work towards something. they'd rather he country fail so long as they can spin it that Obama lost... something.

What a bunch of spoiled brats.”

“I agree with all the posts on this page. Unbelievably boorish behavior at the expense of the well-being and future of this country. We need opposite points of view, that is the essence of democracy = but we need to give air time to the good ones - not the crazy ones.”

They - Palen- Newt- Cheney - Beck- Hannity - have shown us who they really are - time and again. Now we can believe it beyond a doubt. SUch unabashed hate- and wishing ill for the country is still- startling. Likes of Rush- Beck- Hannity _Palen -folks bring guns to townhalls-
all tried their best to stir up hate for this Pres and cause him to lose in 2008-
but OBAMA won anyway They are not so powerful as they pretend to be.

“can we please just make Gavin governor now and save some time?”

Mark Kraft replied on Sep 24, 2009 at 16:08:49

“Gavin can't be governor, unfortunately.

Like Brown, he has stood up for LGBT rights. Unlike Brown, however, he has done so in a way that was overtly partisan, and that angered a lot of Californians.

Newsom is also very vulnerable as far as his history goes. His whole career was funded by the Getty oil fortune. His businesses are even named after the nickname of one of the Gettys. He only got into San Francisco politics based on political appointment by Willie Brown, who received big political donations from Newsom and Getty. His family ties to Pelosi don't help either, as it smacks of political aristocracy, regardless of what you think of her politics.

He nearly lost election to Ralph Nader's Green VP candidate, and his flagship program for the homeless was a complete disaster.

The situation is so bad for Newsom that a recent poll shows him trailing Brown in the race even within San Francisco itself... and the people who know him best know what he hasn't really accomplished for the city, and also know that Brown has been great for the Bay Area, and has close ties here. Despite working in Sacramento, he's still in Oakland all the time, and is always around to help when the area needs him.

Newsom doesn't have a power base. He doesn't have dominating support locally, or elsewhere in California. He can only run based on people not learning more about him... and that's not a recipe for success.”

"Death Panel" Scare Tactic May Backfire on Republicans

Commented Aug 17, 2009 at 15:21:33 in Politics

“Let's please remind people that if there was a legitimate argument against a public option, we wouldn't be dealing with outright lies like "death panels" or "nobody over 55 gets coverage" or "the government will be making health care decisions for you" or "government will pay for abortions."

There is not any legitimate argument against a public option so lies is all they have.”

JanP replied on Aug 17, 2009 at 15:48:27

“Sure there are reasons against it. One is having a government clerk interfere in the patient-doctor relationship.

It is not a lie that when an amendment was submitted prohibiting such interference, it was voted down by the Democrats.

anyway, the language of the bills are devious, obfuscating and unintelligible. They allow the beuracracy to create rules to do whatever they want.”
