“Wooten's take may not be a book, but it would make a very nice Vanity Fair article. Mr. Dunn, how about it?”

Donald replied on Nov 27, 2009 at 18:04:34

“While I certainly agree that Mike Wooten's past and present relationship with his former in-laws would indeed be an intrigueing subject for such an article, I hardly think the author of the pending book "The Lies of Sarah Palin: The Untold Story Behind Her Relentless Quest for Power" should be the one writing it, since his own views on the former Alaska governor can hardly be considered unbiased.”

To Dick Durbin: Before Surrendering the Public Plan, Just Make It Optional

Commented Aug 10, 2009 at 17:55:22 in Politics

“How about putting a hold on Medicare and making everyone opt back in? Before someone qualifies for Medicare, they have to acknowledge that Medicare is a government health care plan and that they are opting to participate in it.”

It's not government run, but it sounds like they have a choice of really good plans because they are so large they can negotiate it.”

“Since I too am in Washington State, I agree. Make the public plan an option available to each state. LOVE IT. When the rabid anti-health care people lose their insurance in the non-participating states, they can vote their Republican Representatives OUT. In the meantime, those of us who live in states that understand the concept, can go on living our lives with health care reform that has a public option.”

“Also, when you and your strong back go to get health care, you may be denied due to previous injury. Or you may have your claim denied or canceled. Just wait. The reason so many want health care reform is because it is broken. Just wait until it happens to you. And don't mock your fellow citizens who have worked hard all their lives and are ruined due to an illness when the insurance they paid for promptly canceled them.”

“It is government run. And the cattle mantra is not what they have experienced. If you feel the VA health care is earned, then it is a benefit worth having. For Medicare recipients to denigrate government health care while receiving it themselves is misleading at best.”

“My brother-in-law was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He will thrilled to find out that the time in spent in the Navy in the 70's qualified him from some VA benefits. He was not an officer and he was not in all that long. He is being treated for prostate cancer now and speaks very very highly of the quality of his care.

My sister-in-law was also in the Navy. She was diagnosed with MS while serving. For the last thirty years, I have been amazed at the level of her care and benefits. We're talking cars retrofitted for wheel chairs, house customization with ramps, counters lowered, etc. plus a monthly payment that supports her. She too was not in the Navy that long, maybe six years and not an officer.

My sister-in-law is an exaggerated example, but the health care the VA provides is extremely good. While my sister-in-law has experienced an enormous challenge by having MS, I am continually reminded of the good fortune she had to have been in the Navy at the time of her diagnosis. And this is government run health care. Car and home retrofitting are more than I would ever ever expect, but the medical coverage itself should not be underestimated.”

“VA health care should not be for everyone. I and several of my fellow troops and family members have paid dearly for the care the VA. offers. I have denied my claims as my injuries are not that bad. There are vets that need the money and services more than I. See thats what being a good american is about. I have a strong back and can get a job when I get done with this 3rd deployment. I will earn my money and buy health care. Because I can. The gov does not owe me anything. Nor do the tax payers. I am greatful for the improvements the va has made. They are comming along well. Yet the gov. and the va type health system is so unique the average american would go crazy trying to wait in the lines and being put on hold and shuffled around like cattle. I urge all to not use emotion and study all options. Also do not mock your elders, at any cost.I read all these comments and feel very sad that while I am over seas fighting all you people bicker and degrade others. VA health care is not socialized. It is earned and paid for, trust me. if you disagree please see your local recruiter and sign up.”
