"Patients coming in for very late abortion - over 26 menstrual weeks' gestation - are almost always seeking services for termination of a desired pregnancy that has developed serious complications. This usually means the discovery of a catastrophic fetal anomaly or genetic disorder that guarantees death, suffering, or serious disability for the baby that would be delivered if the pregnancy were to continue to term. Occasionally a woman presents at this stage for pregnancy termination because of her own severe medical illness or a psychiatric indication."
If you read that and think "murder," there is something seriously wrong with you. And while, in this situation, you may decide that you would prefer to still have the child despite whatever risks, hardships, and suffering that might entail - but to say the government can force people to endure that certainly doesn't sound like a "limited" government.”
“If you pay for cable, you still get ads. You also, with basic cable, can't even watch anything that isn't currently airing. If you have a DVR, you can watch things you have recorded, but you pay for that service. If you have on-demand service, you will have ads in the on-demand programming, and usually will only have the most recent episodes available.
Paying $8/month to watch a majority of the current television shows - even with ads - is a much better value than paying several hundred dollars to your cable company.”
“HBO = Time Warner
Time Warner = 2nd largest cable company in US
HBO won't be getting sick of the cable companies - they are one.”
MarkXS on Apr 20, 2014 at 16:22:21
“Wrong. Time Warner Cable has nothing to do with Time Warner. Has been a totally separate company for several years. Not a subsidiary, not connected at all. Obviously they still have some kind of licensing for the name "Time Warner" but they are in no way part of the company that owns HBO. And they are trying to merge with the company that owns NBC and Universal Studios, along with all NBC Universal's cable properties that compete with Time Warner, Warner Brothers, Turner and HBO brands.
HBO is the only "content" network that has sufficient clout and subscriber demand for its own productions to pull off that "Get HBO without cable, and stuff it, cablecos".
But parent Time Warner's other brands are not. When the Comcast/TimeWarnerCable monster (you know the Feds will allow it for the right campaign contributions) with Charter, Cox, Liberty Cable and satellite duopoly DirectTV and Dish, all "independently" decide that they don't need CNN, HLN, TBS, TNN in basic tiers and don't need TCM at all, HBO folds.
If they don't, NBC O&O stations will stop buying Warner syndicated product, many small coowned stations drop The CW (the W is Warner), NBC cable nets drop Warner-produced shows.
If Time-Warner doesn't give in, then we see crummy internet delivery speed and latency for HBO Go. Which the bought-off Feds have allowed with the decimation of net neutrality rules. The game is fixed. Not by Time-Warner.
The game is fixed. But not by Time Warner the content company.”

“Is that true? That's a bummer. But I still think Cable is going the way of Blockbuster. They actually remind me of the oil companies - trying to kill the new technology (Netflix and Hulu) rather than innovating themselves.”
“BS. While it's true that everything has a toxicity level, the LD-50 level of THC is so high that it is impossible to actually achieve that level. The equivalent would be smoking a joint the size of a telephone pole... in the span of about 15 minutes. Simply not possible.”
BrattPitts on Oct 30, 2013 at 23:39:18
“Everyone who has replied so far has completely missed the point of what I wrote. Not surprising since most are probably stoned as they write......I agree. You can't smoke enough pot, most likely, to OD. I would say the probability is so remote that it is impossible. But the story is not about POT...it's about THC...the synthesized intoxicant found in weed. So, follow me if you can. THC...is NOT weed....it's what is IN weed. Don't confuse the two. Dewars can give you an alcohol buzz or even get you drunk, right? The reason it can is because it has alcohol in it. Now, what if you took a shot glass of PURE Alcohol? I mean 100% alcohol...I didn't say 100 proof...100% ...are you following? Nothing pleasent would be the result of that. You COULD die. Now....THC is the "alcohol" IF YOU WILL....that is found IN weed....getting it? It is NOT weed....it is the intoxicant IN the weed and when that intoxicant is synthesized it's called THC. And yes you CAN get too much THC (not weed) in your system. Weed has SOME THC naturally occuring in it. It is not MADE out of THC. Getting it? WEED is not 100% THC. Any more than Dewars is 100% alcohol. But if you ingest pure THC it is the same as ingesting 100% alcohol. The result will not be the same as smoking weed. Just as ingesting pure alchol is not the same as drinking.”
“The first ghettos in Italy were for Jews - very much due to minority status. Contrary to your claim, some of these Jewish ghettos (such as in Venice) were not actually poor, but still served to separate the Jews from the rest of the population.
Referring to race is not (and has never been) racist. Making stereotypes about an entire race is racist. If you are making a racial joke that does not involve making blanket assertions about the entire race, sure, it might not be racist. But my guess is that the racial jokes you are referring to DO make these types of assertions. Many racial jokes paint entire groups of people as unintelligent, lazy, or criminals. These are, indeed, racist.
What makes someone racist is thinking that, by the nature of being of a different race, someone else is inherently different than you. It does not have to involve superiority.”

Do you also think that the phone numbers written on bathroom walls are really advertisements for "a good time"?”

“It's worked so far! Last week, I wound up splitting a vintage pinot noir with Lindsey Graham. Later we watched all of season six of Buffy the Vampire Slayer while waiting for our nails to dry. (Lindsey really enjoys blowing on other people's nails, by the way.)”

“Extended hiatus = waiting less than a month because the show it was paired with got cancelled. The Thursday lineup was solid (Office, 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, Community), but with the rest of those shows gone or moved to a different timeslot, it's best for P&R to hold off for some other shows to support it. This move will likely only boost ratings when it returns, especially with back-to-back episodes.”
“That sounds great, and I think we all like the thought of that, in theory. In practice, this leads to excessive partisanship, because you can no longer make the deal palatable to the other side. There needs to be room for compromise.”

“70% of the cost of the Iraq war was appropriated through supplemental appropriations and not through the budget. This meant that the DOD received funds not on the books. It's not a lie. Never was a lie. It's very much the truth.
“The SCOTUS should be populated by appointing a new Justice every 2 years. Each presidential term would include 2 appointments. The 9 most recent appointees are permitted to vote on any case brought before the court. Justices beyond the 9th most recent may sit and hear cases, ask questions, and fill in for recusals. They can write opinions, both concurring and dissenting. The Chief Justice is elected by the SCOTUS as a whole (including non-voting members) from the 9 most recent appointees every time a new Justice is added. In the event of a death on the Court, there is already (likely) a nonvoting Justice that can take his or her place. Of course, on the current SCOTUS, only 4 Justices have been appointed in the last 18 years.”

“So I can understand why people might think this was deliberate - after all, the GOP has a history of distributing false information about election dates. They have distributed fliers in largely Democratic neighborhoods with the wrong date or "Republicans vote on Tuesday, Democrats vote on Wednesday."
However, I think it is unlikely that this was done on purpose. It was tweeted... meaning followers of the RNC are more likely to get this than Democrats. Why would the RNC want Republicans to show up on the wrong day? If this was intentional, it was misguided, unless they want Booker to win.”

“The series ended earlier this week. There are people who watch the show either on Netflix (the second half of Season 5 will not be there for months), on demand, or on DVR. No one needs to justify why they might not have watched the end of the series yet (and it doesn't matter if they haven't even begun to watch the series), but regardless of the reason, they are right to complain about such a blatant spoiler (it's in the headline, you don't even have to click on the link!).
And the Who Shot JR episode is more than 3 decades ago. That's hardly an equivalent example.”

“There are a lot of bands that encourage bootleg recordings of live shows but do not approve of pirating studio albums/recordings. Bootleg concert recordings drive ticket sales. Bootleg albums make album sales plummet. You are comparing apples and oranges.”

“There's no proof file sharing hurts sales. It's free publicity that also drives ticket sales. The only people who disagree are the RIAA and they clearly have an axe to grind since "publicity" is what they are selling when they take huge percentages of artist's media sales.”

“All the ones who are real metal heads happily returned when Death Magnetic was released. Everything between the Black Album and Death Magnetic was pretty mediocre, and that's why people abandoned the band. If the music was good, people would have overlooked the Napster stuff. (You don't hear much about Dr. Dre doing the EXACT same thing, because this was around the time of Chronic 2001 and Eminem)”
