“It isn't just because he said it. It is because we HEARD him say it. Big difference between that, and hearing someone say they think a person did this or that for X or Y motivation. The only thing starker would be SEEING him do something, personally.”
“One reasonable way to interpret this is to split is right down the reproductive line. Men worry about their wives being impregnated by other men (and thus raising another man's baby.) Women never have that worry. So men worry more about their wives/partners having sex, and women more about their men abandoning them to have babies with someone else.”

“I was also thinking along those lines. Some aspects of our nature are deeply ingrained into our psychology.”
“Most importantly, anyone who doesn't want pot legal should campaign against alcohol and tobacco, which are far more damaging. If they don't they are hypocrites. If they drink or smoke cigarettes but hold out for pot being illegal, they are addicts protecting their own drug while destroying the lives of others, and beneath contempt.”
“Maher stepped over the line, and I will not defend him on this. That was in extremely poor taste. Children should be off-limits.”

“can't seem to find anything on this so-called attack...the big mouth even said he "forgot" what was said...he started yelling "who's the President" at the show and audience members got security and told him to shut up.”

“It is fascinating the number of people who claim that Huffpro, or "liberal news" is "spinning" the story...then take the word of the accused, rather than the facts as we know them. They quote Zimmerman's explanation as truth: "it was self defense" rather than "he claimed self defense." Or the officer's explanation as "it was a non-shooting scenario" rather than "he claimed it was a non-shooting scenario." Taking a side in the argument is one thing. Doing it while claiming "no spin" or impartiality is simply being dishonest.
“Seems like you are not being honest with yourself. Have you ever put any thought into why you take some of the positions you take? Maybe you are just a little racist? Just a thought.”

“When the people who defend zimmerman use his words, his excuses, and his stories to validate his crime, they are admitting they have no real evidence to defend him. In court, his word and a couple of bucks will get him a cup of coffee.”
“I suspect that Maher's five million is perfectly safe. All that would happen is that, whatever proof The Donald produced, Maher would demand additional proof and claim conspiracies, forgeries, and so forth, just as the Birthers have.
Easy peasy, and hysterically funny.”

“From time to time someone will talk about "legal protections" for American slaves. Fine. Please post the evidence that any white person was ever CONVICTED AND JAILED for the murder of a slave. No, not the destruction of another white man's property. Murder. Jailed, not "tried" or "arrested." Unless you can demonstrate that there were actual substantive sentences for murder, then you have to admit that there were no effective protections. All the blather you want about people protecting "their property" is nonsense when you consider that the SPCA exists precisely because people abuse their living property. Child Protective Services exists precisely because people abuse their own families. Don't even try to suggest that, absent legal protections for murder (let alone rape) the very palest aspects of human nature would not crawl to the surface and explode. Don't even try.
“Some people don't know the difference between "states filing for secession" and "citizens of states filing for secession." An insignificant fraction of those who voted--and so far, photos suggest that they are 100% white (yeah, no racism there)--lose their minds and can't handle reality. The GOP is in serious trouble if they don't renounce these sad, sick people.

“It is absurd that Johnny Depp was cast to play Tonto. If they wanted him as a star, they should have cast him as the Ranger, and had an actual Native American in the Tonto role. "Last Airbender", "Iron Man 3" (Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin) and this suggest a new era of yellowface. Unless and until Asian or Native American actors are put in makeup to play white people, this should be seen as what it is--bowing in respect to racism.
“It amuses me that Conservatives say liberals are anti-Corporate, but then say that the media, which is all Corporate, is liberal. What are they saying, that these corporations are suicidal? That Conservatives don't care enough about informing the public that they would become reporters (or teachers?). No. More likely the "Liberal Media" meme is a great way to simply ignore what a moderate, centrist media reports. Also, the further you are to the Right, the more the middle seems to be to the Left. It's a fascinating experiment in human perception.
“Look...this article would be vastly more powerful if it gave the same data for Democrats. Without that, it feels quite incomplete and even unfair. are the numbers vastly different? roughly equal? From this, we have no idea at all.

“Considering how few movies have ever been made that depict slavery from the slave's POV (most deal with post-slavery, pre-slavery, etc.) I suspect there is GIGANTIC emotional resistance, especially on the part of people who want to believe it was a relatively benign institution with little impact on the descendants. Meanwhile, a related event of 2% of its duration (The Civil War) has been depicted countless times. Oh, the apologists are going to try to poison the well. It won't work. Tarantino is just bizarre enough to actually succeed.

“I love taking five short stretch and exercise breaks daily, one every three hours. If you start by committing only a single minute to each of them, you will find yourself creeping up to two minutes, and then five. Joint recovery circles are especially powerful performed in this fashion.
“I've heard for years that the Olympic Villages are the most intense sexual environment on Earth. Perfect bodies, sky-high energy, surrounded by the only other human beings on Earth who can really understand them and their values. Yow!!! Go for it, kids!
“He was the first great writer who ever encouraged me to believe in myself. Met him several times--he guested on my radio show, and at a symposium I taught at U.C.L.A. Was never anything but a gentleman and an inspiration. The last time I saw him I was asked to give a tribute for (I think) his 85th birthday at Universal Sheraton. I spoke of his kindness in reading two of my stories and responding with encouragement, of sitting at dinner with him and Larry Niven, of him believing that I had my best writing days ahead of me. I cried. He was in his wheelchair, suffering from stroke, and we hugged. He wrote me one last time, thanking me for my tribute, saying: "some of your tears are my own."
What a wonderful spirit. I loved him. www.diamondhour.com”
