“"when Bush spends money on the war, the day to day activities and civilian deaths mount up, but when Obama appropriates the money, that somehow changes the entire facilitation of the war?"
Analogy: when you pay an incompetent roofer and the roof leaks like a sieve, you appropriate MORE money to a competent roofer to complete the job... and the roof continues to leak, albeit less and less as the work is completed.
You would "withdraw every last troop within 90 days" ? A seductive fantasy, indeed, but completely out of touch with the pragmatic strategic realities. .. and the predictable consequences, even if it COULD be physically accomplished! It took FIVE YEARS to build that pile of men and machines.

“Not to belabor this discussion but, where FISA is concerned, there's no telling what "ongoing" intelligence fiddle-faddle was dumped on Obama by the military/i ntelligenc e/yadda-ya dda establishment when he took office. I can understand his being reluctant (especially considering the wall of obstruction, "birtherism" and challenges to his very legitimacy that welcomed him) to trash the entire china shop in one fell swoop. That said, I share your discomfort that these policies have been extended. It remains for history to report whether, in fact, there were defensible rationales.
As for "Bush's deficits somehow excusing Obama's", I assume you favored allowing the looming global economic collapse to proceed unfettered. No question, the bailouts were not sufficiently conditioned and poorly administered, but I'm glad we're not finding out what the joint would have looked like if we'd done nothing.
To extend your analogy, when your spouse runs up the credit cards and you can't pay them off, you don't JUST cut them up. Unless you fancy bankruptcy, you consolidate the debt and work out a payment plan. If Obama attempted to simply walk away from the Bush debt and deficit -- with its attendant consequences -- I suspect you'd have been among the first to condemn him as irresponsible and unqualified.
... and, one more time, compare the beginning of the 45-degree ramp-up in oil price with the invasion of Iraq. Wiggling around the definitions, references and comparators can't change that.”

“I appreciate your response, you are more informed than 90% of the people on Huff post. "Having said that" , your FISA excuse is ridiculous. Obama voted on it in 2008. That was long after it became public that they were not procuring warrants. He stated 6 months earlier it was illegal. In that same statement he promised "unequivocally" to vote against it, as well as immunity for the phone companies, so I'm sorry but to say he knew no better is just absurd.
I don't follow your reasoning for Bush's deficits somehow excusing Obama's. Obama pushed through the Bush-engineered Wall Street Bailout. He lobbied the democrats in Congress to pass it. If your spouse runs up the credit cards and you can't pay them off, you cut them up. You don't just take the cards and double the spending. That makes no sense whatsoever.
Gasoline went up in cost because of the deficit spending and inflation. That's all. If you compare the price of gasoline to gold it went unchanged all 8 years of the Bush presidency. It did not go up in price, the dollar went down in value.”

“"He just signed off on $105 Billion more funding to perpetuate those exact war crimes." ?
Those EXACT war crimes?
What a facile, childlike representation. Most of our military structure was solidly embedded in Iraq (and a still-growing portion in Aghanistan) for five years when Obama was elected. Have you read ANY of the analyses which painfully delineate what it would take to REMOVE that structure? It's bad enough that serious consideration is being given to simply turning over much of the heavy equipment to the locals... a more "economical" alternative than bringing it home. We can only guess at the BILLIONS that represents.
... and that doesn't even begin to address both the military AND indigenous mindsets and acculturation to our hostile presence in BOTH countries, including our insidious "partnership" with their corrupt governments, that have evolved over those years.
I wonder, if you had all the levers at your disposal in your playworld, how YOU would have "wrapped up" those two occupations in a snap, with no destructive fallout?
To paint Obama with comparable accountability for the conscious, methodical, deceptive and devious criminal plundering of the Bush/Cheney cabal over eight years is tantamount to indicting both the arsonist and the fire department since the latter, of necessity, also causes damage to the building.
Obama -- at least, on the record -- has ended torture, while, to the very end, Bush denied it... and Cheney CONTINUES to justify and rationalize it.
