“Yes, it is. It's not my problem you are bad with money or didn't plan for a stable future.

Furthermore, it's highly unlikely Id be denied anything, seeing as how I have one of these so-called "Cadillac plans" already. And even if I were, I've done this little thing called building up savings to pay for catastrophic events.

My girl could give birth to a kid that requires 27 surgeries with medical costs of over a million dollars and I'd still be just fine. It's a little thing called personal responsibility.”

“Great. It's not enough that we're getting a backdoor tax with this whole "forcing everybody to buy private insurance or else pay government a fine" nonsense. It's not enough that we're getting a backdoor tax by having to pay to have people who didn't make something of their lives get more free insurance. Now we're going to be taxed if, over the course of being forced to buy a plan, we choose a good one?

Utterly ridiculous. I used to be a staunch defender of this guy, but he's nothing but your stereotypical tax and spend cliche.”

“3D IMAX is really the way to go. Go watch Monsters vs. Aliens, Avatar, or Harry Potter in it and you'll see the point.

The people that find themselves disappointed with it are the people who go into the movie expecting the entire movie to jump out at them and the entire thing to be some grand 3D experience by which every moment feels like something is in your lap. The movies coming out thus far use 3D as an accent more than anything. A good chunk of the movie isn't 3D at all, it's select spots that are done so in such a way to give the movie "pop" and really stand out. Which is fine by me.”

“You mean the unedited footage which shows the Bat-Boat's engines clearly running, which shows them purposefully angling to the path of the whaling vessel, and which if you watch the OTHER video footage from the whaling vessel shows the Bob Barker positioning itself in such a way that the whaling vessel had no choice but to hi.t the Batboat? That footage?”

“This is the naval equivalent to the old "box in" trick that insurance frau.dsters use to cause auto accidents.

They use the Bob Barker to basically force the whaling vessel to go into a channel where it can't maneuver to avoid a collsion, they move another vehicle (in this case, their bat-boat) into the path of the vehicle to force it to cra.sh so they can claim damages.”

PartisanLove replied on Jan 06, 2010 at 13:09:42

“Horribly misleading headline. It should read "Conservationists angle boat so that it runs into Japanese whaling vessel"

Look, I find what the Japanese do abhorrent. And the whole "research" angle is just a sl.ap in the face of anyone with common sense. But the reality is the Sea Shep crew and the people of this boat, facing a need to get more and more aggressive, caused this accident.

They fully admit that they spent most of the day getting dange.rously close to the boats to try and throw ropes into the props so they'd jam up. And I'm sorry, but this video is heavily edited and STILL shows that it was the conservationists that caused the accident.”

don quixote12 replied on Jan 06, 2010 at 12:44:05

“Yeah, good luck electing a "liberal" in Montana, North Dakota, or any of the other places where the Blue Dogs hail from.

The reason they were trotted out by Democrats is because Dem leadership knew it was the ONLY way they'd ever beat a Republican in those districts. Face it, the centrists are going to take over, whether you like it or not.

And thank god for that. 200+ years of extremists is more than we should have to put up with.”

STParker replied on Jan 06, 2010 at 04:19:49

“Oh yes those wonderful centrists who wouldn't stand up for Democracy on the eve of George Bush's inauguration, who wouldn't stand up for fiscal responsibility when he passed his tax-cuts, and took him at his word on WMD.

"Centrists" buy into the false binary that liberals are somehow as equally extreme as conservatives, because they are polar opposites on so many issues, but that is a false logic, it would imply that opposing the Iraq war was equally as extreme as supporting it or that opposing tax-cuts for the rich is equally extreme as supporting them. I could go on, but the point is that just because two points of view stand in opposition to one another it doesn't necessarily make them equally extreme or bad.

It seems to me that if a centrists had a choice between Ghandi and Hitler, they would reject both and choose Pinochet thinking they had just made the "pragmatic" decision.”
