“Actually he self identified as an agnostic.
"My position concerning God is that of an agnostic. I am convinced that a vivid consciousness of the primary importance of moral principles for the betterment and ennoblement of life does not need the idea of a law-giver, especially a law-giver who works on the basis of reward and punishment ."
Taken from a letter written by Einstein in 1951.”

“I think the concept of a knowable, personal god was probably a moral necessity at the time the concept was created. Human beings have a natural disposition to empathy and for compassion. At the time societies were developing their religious traditions the world was a much more brutal place than even the reality we experience in our time. In my opinion god, and especially an afterlife were necessary evils which allowed humans to proceed with the tasks of survival if the face of tremendous suffering. I think it also stands to reason that in the present day, when we do possess the technology and skill to ameliorate much of the suffering that still exists in our world, that belief in god has become implicitly immoral. This is why, again, in my opinion, present day religious zealots rail against the very concept of moral relativity, as it threatens their identities.”

“Not everyone knows how to keep their religion in a neat, quiet corner. Our relatively small place in the universe can be a discomforting concept. People prefer the myths that promise god has an ultimate purpose for each of us to any alternative science has offered including this post. And religion's pass key is simply belief.
Morality and codes of conduct, like the Hammurabi code, originated independent of religious teachings. It is the revealed religions, not the transcendental, that have hampered our understanding of the universe at every step. If the Jesus-god of the Bible had instructed his followers in proper hygiene techniques, we might have averted much suffering. Instead we were left with spittle mixed with mud to cure the blind.”

“Yes! Religious people have a bad habit of claiming dead celebrities for their religion. Einstein was an atheist, and he said so many times.”

“I do not see these two quotes as being mutually exclusive. I also believe that science will "meet God". I am an engineer, as if my wife. I have friends who are scientists, physicians, and philosophers. We discuss these issues ad nauseam. Some folks incorrectly think of science as math. Math usually has an absolute answer. 2+2=4. Science is study and experiment.
Science is not what makes the universe what it is, it is the method by which we understand what exists. I am not a religious man. I believe that religion, as it stands, is pretty silly. People fight over who has a better understanding of a being or force that would surely be far beyond our understanding. Yet, many are willing to kill in defense of their theory. So, like Einstein, I do not believe in a personal God. I do, however, believe in a universal God.
So, as a man who believes that science is a study of what God has created (just as evolution was a method used), and that one day science will bring us to a point of a greater understanding of that ... and as a man who does not have religious convictions, but who does indeed believe in a universal intelligent force, I find both of Einstein's quotes to be on point. I have found comfort in them both as well because in my youth I often felt alone in my embrace of two things that many found at odds.”

“I'm sorry, but you could easily reverse that logic on itself. God is the "cop-out". The existence of this all mighty deity that will allow "the meek to inherit the earth" is the perfect way to abdicate our responsibility to our fellow humans. See a homeless person on the street? Don't worry, god will take care of them. Genocide in Rwanda? Well if they have faith a better place waits for them in the next world. Belief in god allows people to dismiss the fact that every human life is precious and fleeting, and is worth saving in the here and now. It's high time we start taking care of each other in this world, because your god is doing a darn lousy job of doing it himself.”

“Yeah but why did man feel the need to create the concept of God? All throughout history, across cultures, civilizations and geography, that is the one binding concept. There have been studies that point to something in human brain chemistry that causes the manifestation of God. That is what's fascinating, not the argument about whether or not God does exist. And there's no denying that man needs to have a concept of God. Maybe if we answer why, we will find our proof one way or the other.”

“It isn't odd at all when you think about it. Back in the day the Catholic church was the most wealthy entity in all the world. The Catholic church, despite all their claims of charity, gets a big check minus when it comes to sharing.”

I was as staunch an Obama supporter as there was, canvassing, phone banking, even driving people to early voting here in Ohio, and I am very disappointed in President Obama compared to candidate Obama. The deal with big pharma, dragging his feet on gay rights, doubling down in Afghanistan, and just the general sense that he has betrayed his progressive roots have left a bitter taste in more than one mouth. The liberal dissatisfaction with President Obama is real, and the White House better recognize it or he is going to be one and done, believe that.”

I think younger people are used to having everything come instantly and it does not happen that way. Although I must admit that is exactly how Bush did it (only because he had the majority) and look where it has gotten us. These things take time unfortunately and he is not going to get everything he said he would try to get, but if it is true that you worked to get him ellected then you know he said many times it was not going to be easy. He said " I will need your help".”

“Abraham Lincoln once said, "it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt". This sage advice should count for double when the fool in question is completely uneducated in the subject matter on which she or he chooses to pontificate. The people who fall under the ridiculously broad term, "transgender", are no more confused regarding their gender than any member of the general public, and in reality probably less so given the immense amount of introspection into the meaning of gender that is part and parcel of a tranperson's existence. In the end this is less about transpeople themselves, and more directly related to the insecurity of those who have never questioned what it means to be male or female. If I, and others like me, who live our lives in a law abiding and respectful manner, make you feel uncomfortable then you have a problem with yourself, not me and others like me.”

“I have never voted for a republican candidate for any office in the 12 years I have been a registered voter. That being said, opinions such as the one expressed above are the reasons there will always be a right wing and a republican party. Liberals, and I count myself as a liberal, apparently are unfamiliar with the concept of pragmatism. What would Ms. Sadhegi have the president do? Brazenly insult his host country? As a woman I have much disdain for the way Muslim women are treated, and the lack of equal treatment in many Muslim majority countries. However, just as change is not actuated through violence, nor is the processed helped by angry, insulting rhetoric. Economic prosperity in the Muslim world is the key to liberation, not fiery speech.”

The thing of which you speak exists here. We have a Methodist Church that becomes a worship place for a Hebrew congregation in the summer months. Look closer religion plays a very helpful and loving role in many communities. It is not a evil thing. People use the power of many to get things done one person could not.
